That just doesn't seem to add up. I know math can be a divisive subject among people, but it's really just a sine of the times that it is a very important thing to learn despite its poor reputation. Everyone does have a differential opinion, sometimes verging on radical, about what their favorite subjects might be, and only a fraction of people seem to truly enjoy math as a subject. See, I honestly didn't mind it as a subject, though I was far from being at my prime in that classroom as compared to others. I don't really get the angle of "math is evil" when it comes right down to it. It seems rather obtuse to me in the end.
But there, I've gone off on a tangent and should probably just let things lie.

we visited her on sunday and she could not even open here eyes, she just layed there wimpering, we and the nurses thought she would not survive the transport to care-home
when we arrived yesterday at the care-home shortly after she had arrived:
she was awake waved at us and laughed, she talked some unlogical things but mostly she was very good, better than some weeksshe knows she is terminal ill and she knows she was almost dead on the weekend, she used the german proverb: "well, I just jumped off the shovel this time"

but Sabine and her mum maybe have been granted a few good days with their "Muddel"
but it makes me wonder what medication the used at the hospital on her
I'm sorry for the delay in replying. I wanted to wait a bit and think carefully on what to say. I did not want to come across as insensitive.
There are certain medications no one in my family can have. It seems to be an inherited trait; any of us have them, we end up stuck with all of the symptoms of dementia and extreme hyperactivity. Found out about it after my great-grandmother was given one of them and it left her climbing the walls and spewing nonsense. Then my grandmother and mother each had it later and ended up with the same exact reaction. It was scary every single time, and it was not a normal reaction but also not an uncommon side-effect.
You have to be careful and really, really advocate with hospitals on medication; most of them do not pay attention to side-effects like this. I've yet to find one that didn't care without the possibility of spending the next five years of their lives in court being put on the table. People say doctors go into medicine to help people, but I've learned not to believe that.
I am sorry for how bad of a shape she is in. When she goes, I hope it's peaceful and in her sleep.

Lets say that was a selfie in more than one way that word could be understood.

Good math teachers.Math teachers are in high demand, what can I say?It's a good feeling to be sought after by schools before you finish your degree.Incoming Rant: When the economy dropped in 2008, a lot of engineers and other "technical" folks had a hard time. Many of them turned to education as a stop-gap until things improve. This, primarily, has led to an over-abundance of math teachers who care nothing about teaching or math. (I'm unsure how it compares to other subjects.) Too many math teachers are only teaching until something better comes along, and the students suffer for it.
I love to teach. I love teaching math. In one way or another, I've been "teaching"/tutoring since high school (15 years ago). Math is fun, when taught as a method of thinking with applications and reasoning. Learning math, in lower level classes, is less about learning to graph and FOIL and more about thinking in a logical, linear fashion. Geometry used to be about learning to reason, and less about shapes.
It drives me CRAZY the number of intern teachers (provisionally certified, already have degrees in something other than education) in math programs that can't pass the math certification test on their 4th or 5th try. It drives me even more crazy when I hear students who were left to learn on their own, from a book, or directed to "independent learning" 99% of the time. HINT: those "teachers" need do something else.
And they should be doing something else. Sadly, the economy is sending a lot of people into jobs they really shouldn't be doing. One of the guys who works at my local McDonald's has a friggin' PhD. What does he do for a living? He makes fries. Hundreds of thousands in debt, one of the best degrees you can have, and he had to get a job serving fast food.
Things are just messed up. And I'm sorry math education is suffering for it.
REALLY? Mom just asked me to make sure my 29-year-old brother is awake before 1:30PM?? He's an ADULT, and should be responsible for HIMSELF.

People say doctors go into medicine to help people, but I've learned not to believe that.
I believe them. Same as lawyers and politicians. A lot of them do go into their fields with all the best of intentions. But it sure as hell isn't why they stay once that initial idealism wears off.
So it's time for Orthos's Apartment Hunting Headaches Part 3!
Just got off the phone with the credit company wondering why, after yet ANOTHER week of waiting after submitting my latest application because the first one apparently didn't go through, I still had yet to receive a response beyond the form-letter confirmation email of "Yes we received the paperwork this time".
Turns out the rep I spoke to last time left out a very crucial tidbit of information: that it takes their company SEVENTEEN DAYS to process an application. And this is just ASKING FOR THE INFORMATION ABOUT THE DEBT! I dread to think how long it's going to take them to get the documentation of said debt if I choose to contest, or to acknowledge and file the contesting, or do anything!
I don't expect to have an apartment before September, presuming one is even still available then, at this rate. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh.

I am guessing that a care-home is like a hospice or nursing home?
The home health care division of Pike's Peak Hospice was amazing when my wife passed away.
I hope she is also attended by folks of such high skill and compassion.

I did speak to a friend who works in collections and she said everything sounded legit to her. From the guy on the phone today, he said it takes that long because of all the paperwork and information they have to request and look up and get together. I'm annoyed that it takes that long, but I'm more annoyed that they didn't tell me so in the first place.

Just have to make sure to keep an eye out for old ladies who think it's a good idea to let their dogs stretch the leash across the road in hairpin curves in the middle of a steep hill...Bicycle repaired! Whoooo!I wish you better luck than my friend had. He spent about $150 getting his bike fixed up, then before having a chance to take it out for a ride, backed his truck over it and had to spend another $100 to fix it again.
More of a faceplant, really. (At least my swift evacuation of the bike meant I wasn't on it when it smashed into two trees, causing the need for repairs.)

aeglos, Very sorry to hear about Sabine's grandmother. I was wondering about hospice care in Germany. They were a blessing when my grandmother passed away several years ago. Enjoy as best you can this last little time and focus on her wonderful life. All the best to Sabine, you and your family.

Alot of medications nowadays are NOT for our older folks who may be dealing with some type of demensia, and that often leads to a lot of complications. i'm glad she has rediscovered her smile, and I hope she shares it with you and especially your little possum in these days.
