I'm very sorry about the news, aeglos. I hope they can make her last days comfortable. You and Sabine have my deepest sympathies.

Sorry to hear that. The waiting can indeed be sucktastic. This I am familiar with.

I'm sorry for not responding to everyone. I have had a long, busy week and I have more to do tonight. Time is a bit tight at the moment...

Yesterday: More psychiatric stuff. They got halfway through the scan and popped a circuit breaker. So I'm sitting in the dark, in a tube, and feeling trapped and increasingly claustrophobic.

So, they get me out of there and out of the room (it does use radiation, after all), and after getting the power back on and rebooting the machine, they find I'm suddenly no longer willing to go through a scan again. My doctor, meanwhile, sarcastically comments that it seems like I have some kind of ghost or something trying to prevent them from figuring out what's wrong.

And then she remembers I believe in ghosts. The day and her dignity both went downhill from there.

I get home in time to see the MMA fighter from my group is there and has a bright idea; she wants to go bar hopping. Now, for most people, bar hopping generally means getting drunk, then getting drunk, and then getting drunk some more until the police finally arrest you or you somehow end up sleeping somewhere that may or may not be your home. For her, it means "feminist baiting." Yes, the person who feels most strongly about women's rights likes to beat up what she sees as the dregs of the feminist movement. She calls it "bar hopping" because it usually ends with her needing someone to post bail.

Naturally, we're not doing this in our own backyard, so she decides to give Kansas a stop. And for her baiting item? She prints out that old petition I made, entirely as a prop for Call of Cthulhu, to repeal women's suffrage. Which, I'll note, includes a definition of women's suffrage on the front page. And the rest of it is a bunch of sexist, misogynistic bull that was commonly spouted back in the 1920s. And then she drags me along because I've "got nothing better to do and need the human contact."

Did I mention I hate people?

So, anyway, we hit bars, clubs, etc. with her asking people to sign the petition. She got four male signatures. She got over two hundred female signatures. Apparently, either people don't read petitions or women in Kansas just hate themselves that much. Top it all off, none of the women we talked to refused to sign it in any of the bars for our first five stops. Then, at the sixth stop, getting people to sign it was going about as normal up until one of the men we asked verbally called attention to what the petition was actually for.

Excrement. Rotating oscillator.

So, anyway, one of the women in the bar turned out to be a feminist, and she naturally came up to me. The entire time she was shouting about how I bullied the MMA fighter into helping me. Me. Bully someone who can bench-press my body weight, hits hard enough to break concrete, and who can stare a cop into submission. And it's pretty obvious she's stronger.

Eventually, the feminist gets tired of my protestations that I didn't do anything she was saying, with the MMA fighter backing me up, and takes a swing... and then her fist is caught the MMA fighter. I thought that only happened in movies, so imagine my surprise to see it in real life. The punch that followed the catch was definitely not a movie item.

What followed was a very short, very brutal curb stomp battle. The feminist had counted on going after a male who either would not fight back or who would provide her with an argument to have him arrested for assault and battery. Instead, she was facing off against a strong, capable, fast woman who was used to beating up people who actually know how to fight and have plenty of experience at it. The results were predictable.

Then the cops show up, break up the fight, and get statements from everyone. The feminist immediately tries to get the cops to arrest me, which the MMA fighter and everyone else in the bar takes a stand against. More than a few are not happy with the MMA fighter, but they can't say she is lying when she claims responsibility. Eventually, the feminist gets tired of the cop refusing to arrest me, slaps him, and then gets tasered and maced into submission before being arrested for assaulting a police officer. The MMA fighter was arrested for inciting a public disturbance. I get warned to find better company in the future.

I have to head back tonight because the feminist is trying to file charges against me instead of against the person who actually intentionally ticked her off and then beat the everloving hell out of her.

Got into another argument with my dad yesterday. Seriously, when people think of the stereotypical "MURICAN," I wonder how much is based off of him. His attitude and comments were beyond embarrassing, uncalled for, and (worst of all) rather loud in public. Glad you were able to stand your ground with your dad. I'm also sorry that you had to do that.

Noooot exactly.

Using tongues to speak Boggard with a character who had never cast the spell before and therefore did not expect her name to be translated literally.

"Who are you?"
"Elegy Dragomir."
"Well met, Dirge Dragonspawn."

We descended into Space Mutiny from there.

You can always have an alternate personality take over the guest blogger spot. Downside: Arguments can be embarrassing.

After missing a week to people being busy, we reconvened for the Thursday night game yesterday. Was good craic, if a little 4th wall breaking.

VEGAS! WOO!:
During the day, the GM contacted us to ensure we all arrived early. He wanted extra time for the night's session, so our tardy member only showed up a half an hour late, instead of the usual hour. :P

So, having left off the last session riding the bridge to Vegas, we arrived, after a brief disjointed feeling, and found ourselves on the other side of a bridge, seemingly constructed in the middle of the desert, for some reason. Seeing Vegas in the distance, we quickly drove there, and started our search for the being most likely able to help save our world. Apparently, he had come to Vegas to blow off some steam on cards, after his last attempt to prevent the world ending event approaching our world was unsuccessful. (He sought out an ancient, powerful, evil being, equal in power to the evil coming, in the hopes to pit them against each other, only to find out it had died of old age) So, knowing we had card games in Vegas in our future, our Mage and Deadwalker (ghost/animated corpse) went off to "win" some cash reserve, while myself and our Werewolf tried to narrow down the actual casino our target was playing in. Finding Caesar's casino blocked off by Centurions, who were only letting players willing to bet "the highest of stakes" in, we reckoned we'd found our man. Using my abilities to free the casino staff of the mind control they were under, we made our way in and found the high stakes table, and, as expected, the man we were looking for.

As we came in though, and scoped the place out, we discovered that the casino had been messed with considerably, and the highest of stakes were no exaggeration. Slot machines took years off your life, with the payout being years back. On card tables, people were gambling away secrets, limbs, burdens, and lives. And at the cash-in desk, Professor James Moriarty was trading in all the chips he had won for a piece of the true cross. (Had I mentioned we had accidentally let Moriarty out of Sherlock Holmes, and had a tenuous peace which involved us not using supernatural powers to kill him, and him not being, well, Moriarty?) Anyways, he helped nail down the identity of our man (let's just say he was very familiar with that cross Moriarty now owned a piece of), and gave us some advice on tables to avoid, before making a quick and subtle exit.

Now, after the others rejoined us (slightly disappointed that the money they had built up to get on the high stakes table was useless at this particular table), we approached "Nickolas". He mentioned he had been aware of us, but if we wanted anything from him, we'd have to play his game. And with that, the GM produced poker chips and a deck of cards, and we played Texas Hold'em for a while. Green chips were answers, blue chips were favours, and black chips were burdens. Chips that were won had to be immediately cashed in against whoever you had won them from, and you could take as many chips as you liked.

Nikolas' questions were always invasive, and vaguely attempting to pit the characters against each other, while his favours were usually to cause serious bodily harm to someone in the casino. He answered poorly worded questions as vaguely as he could, to waste our questions. The few favours the players won were used to prevent him from asking certain questions or favours (Mage asked to only be asked what his favourite colour was, so that he couldn't ask his secret, and our Deadwalker asked to not be requested to harm others). Almost any time he put in a favour, everyone folded, rather than risk being asked to do something horrible. After about a half dozen hands, he tired of our repetitive, one theme questions (how do we save the world) and our hesitance to bet favours or burdens. Having gotten barely anything out of him, outside of the fact that our situation was even worse / more hopeless than we thought it was, he offered a new, faster game. Taking some inspiration from Angel, he offered a quick cut of high card, one burden on our part for one answer on his. (i.e. he'd cut the deck and draw a card, then whoever was playing against him drew a card. If he had the high card, he could place a burden on his opponent. If the player drew the high card, he would answer a question) He offered that the first question he'd answer was what was the question we should be asking.

While the rest of us scoffed at the ridiculously unfair stakes, deciding we'd figure something out, the Werewolf drew a card. Five draws later, and only one loss, rendering her permanently illiterate, we knew we had to go to Jersey, to find Nikola Tesla. Apparently, he had used the knowledge he gained from his secret to discover a second secret, then revealed his first secret to get the anti-Mage group off his back. He was now a mechanic, who retained some power. He also possessed an artifact that would allow us to assault the invaders directly, though the odds of overcoming them were against us. Finally, with a solid lead, we happily took our leave of Nikolas, and his insanity, returning to the bridge, with the hopes of making our way to Jersey next.

Rant On 4th Wall In Games:
I really don't like it when player interaction is heavily required in a TTRPG. Particularly when a character is very different, either skill or personality wise, from the player playing them. My character had been forced to lie about the truth of his activities to his SO, co-workers, friends, police, etc., and had become a rather good liar, to his distaste. He's also very observant and perceptive. He'd know how to play poker, how to read tells, and how to hide his own. I, on the other hand, have no poker face, couldn't read someone to save my life, and had no idea what I was doing, even after people explained the game to me. My skilled, competent character was limited by my real world limitations, kind of opposite to the experience I come to the table for.

The same is true in all kinds of situations. You don't judge the high strength character on how well the player can bench-press. But if the high charisma character had a player that can't string two sentences together in a stressful situation, you better believe all those points will mean nothing in game. The high Dexterity character isn't limited by how acrobatic or good a juggler the player is, but the high Intelligence character can't figure out a good plan or solve a puzzle without the player being clever enough to do it themselves.

Really annoys me, and why I never, ever play Charisma characters, no matter what the system. Even if you don't build particularly that way, if you have any Charisma at all, people expect you to be the face, and the GM expects the player to be the wordsmith, the diplomat, the cunning linguist, and not the character. I mean, I get it, to an extent. Player interaction, get involved in the game. I can still do that as a low Charisma character, but less rides on what I say, because at least then my character is equally incompetent to me.
