And because the king of Sweden made too big demands to join the other powers during the Crimean War. (And then he wrote a bunch of sour grapes letters about how not attacking St. Petersburg from the sea was poor tactics.)

What banana bubbles are doing in tea?!
LOL Dood, first time you visit NY, you are going out with me and CH to get bubble tea as well as BONCHON!

Huzzah!

Not sure whether he was naked while doing it. He did have a bit of a reputation for womanizing, though - so he'd at least be familiar with the concept.

Today, I noticed that John left his cell phone at home on the dining room table. I thought he might be looking for it, so I sent him a text message to let him know where it was.

This is the sort of thing I do when I haven't had my morning coffee.

On the upshot, my post-caffeinated self had it sufficiently together to complete the exam to renew my investment licenses for another 3 years. Granted, the renewal exams are really easy (compared to the big initial one), but given my mental incapacity this morning, I had reason to be worried.

I even finished the exam early, so I have time to sit and enjoy this coffee and Danish.

This evening I am headed to a New York Philharmonic concert. I'm going by myself, and I am okay with that.

I used to run to the St. Louis Symphony by myself right after work and stand in line with the other poor, patient people to get one of the 50 free tickets for the first people in line at Will Call. They were very random seats and we were there VERY early, but got to see the stage being set up. Also, about an hour before the performance, the Symphony Librarian would come onstage to chat with the sprinkling of patrons already seated about the music for the evening, the conductor (if a guest), the composers, and the musicians (for solo works).

I loved it.

Cool.

I'm going to see Captain America tomorrow with a friend to thank her for the extra support of late.

Bike lock test successful. I don't think I'll be able to lock it up to any lampposts, but the ubsequitous coin meters will work wonderfully. Moreover, I'll be locking her up while folded to protect both bike and lock from the curious.
Moreover, I just picked up a bunch of stickers from redbubble.com to use on a new bike helmet as this one is almost dead. I'll be picking up the helmet on next Wednesday, I need to bring my headphones with me to make sure I can wear them with this particular helmet. It's a beauty though...

My favourite is Jean Bernadotte/Charles XIV, elected as Crown Prince in part because he was a French General that was kind to the Swedish prisoners of war. Who then declares war on Napoleon, his previous boss.

by the way:

the melody of the Song of the Germans was originally a Austrian Anthem called "Kaiserhymne" (Emporeres Anthem) with the text:
God protect Franz the Emporer,
our good Emporer Franz"
the melody is by Josef Haydn

Bah! The best Emperor is Franz Josif!

There are still His portraits in various pubs in Kraków.

Good morning FAWTLY Folk! Happy Friday!

Hopefully. Actually, the jury's still out (for me). Depends on whether or not my drafter gets those drawing mark-ups I sent him yesterday evening done in time for me me to get the P&IDs out through document control.

My brother was telling me that the old neighborhood (from our rental house) is having a coordinated garage sale for the entire subdivision. Since we were alreay going to have the house through at least May, my brother and I are going to use my rental garage as the staging point. This is good, because there's stuff I can get rid of now, but make money off it.

Scarab Sages

Of course, this means I'll have to move some things back over to that house.....

All right folks, plenty to do on this short (?) day of work. I'd best get to it.

Day off a day off. Time for Skyrim and writing of first edition Dungeons and Dragons stuuf. Some Pathfinder too.

Before I go, I heard back about my supervisor: he's been resting at home with a bad fever and the blahs, but is otherwise fine. The CT they did on him turned out ok. So there's something good about this week.

That, and my baby girl started to roll over on her own.

What a coincidence. I'm off today myself. Going to see Captain America 2 with a friend of mine and then food shopping afterwards.

SAKURA MATSURI IS TOMORROW!!! I'll be going and keeping an eye on my niece, who will be there with her friends. I'll also probably run into just about everyone I know- again. Will take lots of pictures and link them as ever.

Enjoy and enjoy!

Kajehase, how do you pronounce your name? For some reason, this is a thing that helped to keep me from going back to sleep this morning.

His related-by-a-previous-marriage boss. (Bernadotte's wife was a cousin of Napoleon's first wife, Josephine.)

OK. It was the 'j' that I was mentally mispronouncing. Thanks!

I'm still not going back to sleep, though.

So, my wife told me yesterday that a mourning dove was building a nest on the light fixture outside our front door. Normally, I leave through the garage, so I never would have seen it. However, I didn't have the garage door opener with me when I came home from lunch, so I had to use the front door...from which a robin flew away. So, it seems that the mourning dove is using the nest in the morning, while the robin is using the nest in the afternoon, and I don't know which bird the nest actually belongs to.

Holey Carp that's a lot of spam.

Laundry's in the machine, breakfast is making it's way through me, and I've got the Sakura Matsuri today!!! Not sure how many people I know are going, but I intend to have a good time today.

I'll have pics up as always. It's threatened to be a rainy day, however, so that might put a damper on some of the more out there or risque outfits, but I'm sure there'll be something. I'm charging up my portable gaming stuff and bringing a beach towel. This should be a good day.

Stuff is in the dryer. Playing some Dragon Age while I wait. Also need to go over the last edited work before sending it in to boss. Will work on Bio tonight, thanks to TMDQ's help.

Spambots! EX-TERM-I-NATE! EX-TERM-I-NATE!

Good morning FAWTLY Folk! Happy Saturday! Already been a busy morning and it promises to be a busy day. Gotta get the wife a new phone since she dropped her iphone yesterday and the screen shattered. Also gotta start going through stuff to transport back to the rental so we can have it there next week for a big garage sale. That's on top of all the other usual stuff we do on Saturday.

Also: WTF is up with all that spam from that douchebag here in the Off-Topic section! Holy shit that was a lot. Not only should that crap be removed, but the dude responsible should be tracked down and beaten to within an inch of his misbegotten. Then he should be allowed to heal up and beaten again. Just for annoying the piss out of us.
