It is about 2' long and weighs about 25 lbs. You will need to wade into the pool to get it, but nothing stops you as you have the repellent on. It is covered with centipedes.
Oro-Tu |
Oro-Tu does not do much with swarms except avoid them, but he stays on guard in case Silas or anyone else get into danger and he is able to help.
Holding my action for now
brvheart |
No, Silas had to move forward 5' to get the bundle. So he is in the pool.
Leialoha |
"Since you smell no gas, I will try fire after all. After all, it is more pleasing to see these wriggling little beasts blacken and curl up than simply become frozen in ice." Facing the swarm, Leialoha again spreads his arms wide and speaking a prayer to Pele herself, he sends a raging inferno over most of the centipedes.
Stay in place. Direct cone over: AE5, AD4, AD5, AD6, AC4, AC5, AC6. If I understand correctly, Silas is in AE6 or AE7 so I will miss him.
Casts intensified burning hands leaving it as fire this time.
Fire damage: 7d4 + 2 ⇒ (1, 2, 4, 1, 1, 4, 2) + 2 = 17 +8 because it is a swarm. Full damage would be 25 hp or DC 18 Reflex save for half (12 hp).
Spells used: fireball (x2), flaming sphere, mage armor, intensified burning hands (x3)
Spell blood uses (5/6 daily uses remain); Versatile evocation (4/9 daily uses remain)
Magic item uses: Lesser selective metamagic rod (1/3 daily uses remain)
Leialoha |
"Ah, now that was much more gratifying, but I'm glad there wasn't gas here. Might have taken us all with the swarm. Now let's see if that is our missing jawbone Silas?"
I hadn't added in the xp from the fight with the skum yet, but that takes Leialoha up to 6th level! Will keep trucking along at 5 until I have a chance to level him properly.
Silas Frey |
Silas pulls himself out of the pool, carefully holding the jawbone, and avoiding the urge to brush himself clean. "This is a good sign. Hopefully the first step in the right direction. "

The Jawbone of Kaho Ali’i
This jawbone depicts the coronation of the first Tulita war chief, Kaho Ali’i. It is a relic of immense value to the Tulita people, and its loss proved a significant blow to faith in the old ways.
Wexley |
"I see. I won't argue with that. Certainly not with these natives doing all the work for it."

Oro-Tu |
Oro-Tu nods at the finding of the jawbone, "Good."
He then proceeds to check out the rest of the room.
perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
was there anything else in the bundle? Do we want to keep looking for the ring while we are here, or leave?
brvheart |
I am going to make that another 2000XP story award. The jawbone is THAT important guys.
Oro-Tu |
Sweet! I leveled too then :) but still waiting on everyone to decide whether we should stay look for ring or go. I am OK to continue if you guys want to, but is it even in this section?
Oro-Tu |
true but was the ring in this section or a different one? I guess either way we can scout around
Silas Frey |
Silas casts prestidigitation over himself, the cloth and the Jawbone. He wraps the jawbone in the now clean cloth and puts it inside his pack for safety.
"Captain, now we've found one of the items we were looking for, I was wondering if we could pick your brains as we have been asked to find a needle in a haystack. A noble dropped his ring into the sewers over in Silk. Any suggestions for where we might look?"
Cap'n Lester Farrows |
You go back and get the raft and Cap't Lester leads you out the passageway west. You come to another chamber. sewers13
In the tunnel ahead, a raised landing sits inches
above the sewage. In the wall sit three dark portholes:
one facing south and two facing east. A dark yellow green
substance slicks the hewn stone landing in
spots. This strange, mucus-like fluid also rims the
porthole facing south, as well as the eastbound
porthole closest to the south facing one. All three
holes lead into darkness. The muted crash of waves
echoes in the distance through the three tunnels.
"The silk be to the north about a mile."

Are you all capable of continuing or do you need a rest first? FYI, Wexley, your Dancing Lights only last a minute and needs recast each time.
Leialoha |
I'm capable of continuing, but I'm going to have to start tapping more expensive ways of casting spells (in other words, doing bodily harm to myself). I still have a haste, summon monster II, 4 weaker burning hands and grease that I can cast without special tricks. I can cast one of those 2x by slicing myself for 6 hp/spell level. I can boost two of those burning hands back to intensified by taking 2 Con damage each time. I can also use Spell Blood to recall spells 5 more times but each of those comes with a chance of failure due to having to gouge myself (non-lethal) to cast them.
Natalie Desmee |
How much time since we first went into the sewers? My character used a sunrod then and it lasts for 6 hours. I'd have said something this last time but we seemed to have enough light, so it was probably just hung off her pack somewhere. Didn't get a scratch...
brvheart |
Remember you went to the Chapter House in between so it has been about four hours total so it is around 2 AM.
Oro-Tu |
up to the casters, since Wexley is full, beth Silas and leialoha can decide. Us fighters are good thanks to beth haha. I got rage left, and haven't been up long enough to be a problem, but I don't think sleeping and then recovering the ring is a problem either.
Natalie Desmee |
Natalie still has 2 hours on that sunrod with quick draw she'd be more willing to give up a hand...I have no problem if the casters want time to rest.
Wexley |
@GM - I'm aware dancing lights only lasts a minute, but most times the continuous re-casting of the spell is assumed. It only really matters if a combat runs long and the dancing lights are the only light source. Usually they are not, as they are used more for seeing ahead than actually lighting the party's area.
Beth Macara |
Sorry for the unexpected leave. Got an issue with my move and my internet access. All sorted now. Thanks for botting me. As for spells, I'm still good for a few things, but I'll have to stop in a little. In the mean time, I suggest we finish looking round this place. We still have the ST38 corridor down south to explore and maybe one central room.
brvheart |
You travel on the raft in a generally northerly direction making a few turns along the way. After about 15-20 minutes you come to a landing. There is a wall ahead, beyond the wall are passages to the north and to the west. sewers14
brvheart |
Oops, I did not see Beth's post, sorry. I was continuing with you heading in the sewers toward the Silk. If you want to go back to where you were you can do that instead.
brvheart |
ST38? Actually, the central room was ST17 and the gate was ST31. In here there was the one corridor going south off the main hall from the bay.
