Hope everyone is okay! Both of my brothers are suffering the effect of Sandy. One is in Cleveland, and posted he was up at midnight with some other night owl neighbors clearing the leaves from the storm drains, because the street was about to flood. The other I haven't heard from, but it doesn't sound like DC is getting super hard hit, so hopefully he'll be mostly fine in northern Virginia.
CH, Freehold, glad to hear you guys are doing ok. It seems like New York took a good beating. Same here in Philly.
The wife and I got a bit of water in the basement, but not much else. I haven't checked my roof yet. I did go out and assist another neighor in clearing out part of his front yard tree that came down. Another neighbor who was helping said he saw trees down all over when he brought his wife to work.
Now here's hoping Patrick is ok. I know he lost power, so it might be a while until we here from him.
I was actually worried about you and your area, dood, how badly was your basement flooded?
Not bad at all. A few puddles that had already started to dry up before the night was through. We really got very little rain all things considered.
Irene last year was way worse in the basement water way - I filled up my 6 gallon wetvac over 30 times.
Went for a ride to McDonalds. Noticed a tree had come down on the main road leading there, but had already been cut away and cleared. I keep hearing a lot about trees down all over the place. And some low lying areas got flooded.
Back to work tomorrow - my wife got the email on her office blackberry.

Considering the latest really big storm to hit Sweden left several woods looking as if someone had been playing a game of Mikado/Pick up sticks with the trees I can well imagine a hurricane would do that.

Some poor new fool posted a thread and told no one to reply to it. I took the liberty of introducing him to FAWTL and other similar threads where people tried to keep conversation short and OTD went nuts on them. =)
Had a hard time going to sleep a few nights ago, so I went for a walk and took a few pictures. (The ones in daylight or with snow in them are older ones.)

Well, my application is done. I will be in the databank of the Transportation Security Administration. With luck and swift bureaucratic diligence, I'll have my TWIC card within a week. I will soon work at Arcelor Mittal in Burns Harbor, Indiana. I will be handling security duties at the front gate as an officer for Allied Barton. It will be good to have a decent paying job again after three months.
I managed to keep power all night, even though over a million on Long Island are without.
Some more trees came down, including a big one that landed on a building down the street. (It actually didn't damage the building too much.)
I didn't get much rain where I am. Most of the precipitation was south and west of the storm, while north and east of it just got wind and storm surges.
I'm home from work again. I'm not sure how long that is going to last. Where I live is fine, and I suspect my office is, too, but given how many people are stuck in flooded areas, who knows...
It's gonna be a while man. I'm off from the main job the rest of this week, but I"m not sure when I'm going in for the second job- or hell, when I'm getting into manhattan again.
I can't help but think of that firm that jerked me around offering tomorrow afternoon as their only available interview slot. I have a feeling that all of their interviews tomorrow are going to be rescheduled.
