The power is still on, but for a time it was flickering a lot, so I thought it best to power down the computer. Everyone else I've been in touch with on Long Island though is in the dark.
Two huge trees have come down outside my apartment. One of them landed within 6 inches of somebody's car. I'm sure it scratched the paint, but in a moment like that, they'll have to just appreciate that if it had been a foot to the right, they would have had a tree trunk in their windshield.
It seems the rain has past, but the high winds will still be here through the night.
I'm good, although there has been a lot of damage in other areas of Brooklyn. The Battery Tunnel is flooded, and the MTA is worried about how long it will take to pump the water out of the subway- these two are particularly huge. Red Hook and Coney Island are underwater. There were also two explosions on 14th street at a power station that caused a huge blackout.

I'm so glad you and CH checked in. I saw the video of the fire in Queens and... oh my God. What horror. Wait, that apparently happened two or three hours after you posted. If you get a chance, please drop us a word again.
The rest of you guys, we're all thinking about you and very much looking forward to seeing you again. *hugs*
CH, Freehold, glad to hear you guys are doing ok. It seems like New York took a good beating. Same here in Philly.
The wife and I got a bit of water in the basement, but not much else. I haven't checked my roof yet. I did go out and assist another neighor in clearing out part of his front yard tree that came down. Another neighbor who was helping said he saw trees down all over when he brought his wife to work.
Now here's hoping Patrick is ok. I know he lost power, so it might be a while until we here from him.
Apparently Ohio has gotten it pretty hard. Which is just f+$#ing bizarre.
Continued prayers.
If I recall correctly from the weather reports, a lot of the heaviest rain bands swept through into Ohio and points west, combining with that cold front to produce a bunch of rain/snow and winds.

Well... *hugs* I almost wish we had hurricanes more often! Keeps a wary eye out for the Puffin
I didn't hear much about a fire in Queens, but I will keep an eye out.

I was actually worried about you and your area, dood, how badly was your basement flooded?
My supervisor sent me a picture of her cousin's den in Queens- her furniture is floating.
When I was ten, I used to think that sort of thing sounded like a great time - you can make rafts of the table and have naval battles in the living room!
Now all I have to say is, ouch! Hope not too many of them are ruined.

I managed to keep power all night, even though over a million on Long Island are without.
Some more trees came down, including a big one that landed on a building down the street. (It actually didn't damage the building too much.)
I didn't get much rain where I am. Most of the precipitation was south and west of the storm, while north and east of it just got wind and storm surges.
I'm home from work again. I'm not sure how long that is going to last. Where I live is fine, and I suspect my office is, too, but given how many people are stuck in flooded areas, who knows...

It's gonna be a while man. I'm off from the main job the rest of this week, but I"m not sure when I'm going in for the second job- or hell, when I'm getting into manhattan again.

I can't help but think of that firm that jerked me around offering tomorrow afternoon as their only available interview slot. I have a feeling that all of their interviews tomorrow are going to be rescheduled.
