Which role are you?

Gamer Life General Discussion

Which role do you play in your gaming group?

Are you?
The joker?
The rules lawyer?
The leader?
The combat hound?
The role player?
The roll player?
The munchkin?
The thief?

I tend to be the joker. I make endless observational jokes and puns about what's happening. In game I look for ways for my character to get into lighthearted trouble and play some practical jokes on other PCs.

Every once in a while I play a character seriously and become the role player and never go out of character until we wrap the game up for the night.

Hm, I'm sort of a mix of these. I'm normally the joker and the role-player, then depending on who else in the group is playing I often take on the role of leader as well though if someone else prefers it I'd just assume give up that job.

Note: The guy is giving you a hard time above because the word you are shooting for is role rather than roll, which is what you do to dice.

Sorry, wasn't trying to give you a hard time about it. Just joking around.

To answer your question seriously, I tend to do a little of most of the categories you mentioned, except the thief. (Assuming you mean, in the sense of stealing from the party. I play Rogues as much as anything else.) Rules lawyer and roll-player are probably my strongest tendencies, though.

I'm not

Yes, I figure role-playing is about having fun, and i love to laugh, so i joke, sometimes too much.

sometimes..... if i'm trying to pull something cool off and i'm told no, despite the rules allowing me to do so, i can get very grumpy. but if the dm is doing a ruling for a valid reason i'm ok.

The leader?

No, not unless there is no one else.

Xabulba wrote:
The combat hound?

No, though I like to play strikers in combat.

Xabulba wrote:
The role player?

Yes, with the right dm

Xabulba wrote:
The roll player?

We all gots to roll the dice to plays

Xabulba wrote:
The munchkin?

I am very capable of this, and have ditched characters because i felt like this was what i was doing.

Xabulba wrote:
The thief?

Yes, I played non-stop thieves in 2nd, and now play non-stop rogues, I like being the thief/trap dectector/unlimited talent/skill monkey

amusingly i'll never play a ninja, rogues are better (even if mechanically they are not)

I'm the role-player. Every character I play, whether it be PC, NPC, or GMPC has their own voice, personality, accent. Makes for an interesting spectacle when I GM. If I'm comfortable with the group it comes fairly naturally and I've never been accused of drama-hogging (amazing, all things considered).

If I'm uncomfortable I becomes the roll-player. A warm body in a chair if I'm at all nervous. Stage fright is a cruel mistress and she's been with me always.

I'm a Rules Lawyer through and through.

I bought the rule book for a reason: I want to play by these rules and similar to Eric the Pipe I get grumpy and agitated when we don't.

I try to be the Role-Player but it doesn't always work out.

My humor is drier than stale crackers so the Joker is out.

I'm never the Thief even if it would be an in character thing to do.

I've been accused of being a Munchkin but I honestly deny it.

Grand Lodge

When not the DM I'm the

Heavy story / setting-&-adventure Background guy.

I love to learn through all the adventure background, the NPCs, etc.

And my PC will likely have tons of Knowledge skills, Linguistics & Languages, and Diplomacy+Bluff+Sense Motive.

i have aspects of rules lawyer, role player, roll-player, optimizer, and the skill monkey depending on the campaign and DM involved. the lowest amount of skill points per level i will touch is 5 (after modifiers)

Liberty's Edge

In my face to face group, I am the GM/storyteller/and purveyor of pitiful puns.

I am the facilitator, the guy who's trying to include everyone and help the DM run smoothly.

Yes.

Seriously though, I tend to be the leader and a role player. In our gaming group, jokes are mandatory; everyone gets to play the role of joker.

Dark Archive

When I am not the GM;

I am the leader, sometimes joker, combat hound occasionaly rules lawyer but most definiately a role player. I have been known to munchkin but I try not too.

When not running,

Leader, defacto they think I am bossy I just want the game to go.

Why can't people( female gamers )socialize before or after not during.. :(

Facilitator, GM in me gotta help even when it hurts.

I'm a Rules Lawyer, I don't do it maliciously mind, I just like making sure the rules are followed so that everyone is playing the same game (and when I find a new rule, I generally inform everyone discreetly, so as to not ruin a current character, but should they die, they'd know that they can't do what they did, and why)

I recently found the ruling on page 144 of the core book and makes weilding an oversized two-hander impossible, which I'm okay with I play Manipulators and Controllers, not Blasters /shrug, but we have two barbarians in the party, each with an oversized two hander (greatsword and Greataxe respectively), either way, I just pointed out the rule and let them have their fun.

anyways, point being, I'm a Rules Lawyer who tried not to manipulate the rules to my advantage.

also, I enjoy Roleplaying over Rollplaying, just don't put me on the spot, I have a tendancy to use mass spells instead of think at those points (gogo mass hold person and run away)

I am the lurker, almost exclusively. In SS, I play the Rogue/Wizard/AT who is exceptionally good at stealth, so when I do not like the way a situation my group is approaching, I go predator and watch things unfold, think about them, and consult with my party leader about the wisdom (or his lack thereof) of his decisions.

In Kingmaker I am the healbot in combat, which is what my group cares about most, with maximizing gp and magic items in every city we have as a close second (although the promise of mass combat is beginning to dwarf this). Our GM has limited RP at table, so we do so in private. In that campaign I am the role player who is uncovering the important story bits that are opening up how freaking awesome the AP really is.

My husband and most time GM's good friend is the joker. He makes both campaigns a delight. His level 12 shield and sword fighter is one of the most heroic figures I've ever witnessed played, but the party constantly rags on him out of character. I've resisted this temptation for the most part, but will join in some in character jests when the opportunity calls for it. His level 9 cleric of desna... not so much the hero. My character constantly rags on his for being made of clay (from a reincarnation) and his... liberal interpretation of free love.
