You've been at sea now for three of the seven days of your cruise.

The ship is in the Eastern Caribbean and has a final destination of Miami, Florida.

The cruise has been going very well and people have been mostly enjoying themselves.

There have been the usual cases of sea sickness but generally with gravol and wrist bands, most people fail to have problems or problems they have are manageable.

Each person that is a passenger should make a Fortitude test DC 10. If the first test is failed then make a second Fortitude test DC 10. The first check is to see if you suffer any effects from sea sickness and the second check is to see if you are able to manage your condition with standard over the counter treatments and medicines.

Regular crew are exempt in normal seas from the roll since they would have washed out months ago if they couldn't get their sea legs.

There have been a few rumours of people going missing from tables at meals and the medical staff has been quietly making the rounds to several of the state rooms.

Please make a Gather Information roll to hear rumours on the ship (gathered by talking to people). You instead make a Use Computer check to try and learn things by looking on the internet or the ships intranet (there is a $50 time charge for using the internet at sea so specify if you want the ships internal intranet or external internet). You could also choose to make a Perception check to watch what people are doing. Choose one of the above options.

During the third night on board the ship, the ships engines start to slow instead of the normal heavy thrum they make at night as the ship usually cruises to the next island day stop.

It is currently around 11:30 and Fiesta Night is in full swing.

Shinko spent a lot of her time observing everyone else, she didn't quite bother to swim in the pool, she already had a hot tub at her grandfather's. she spent a lot of time, observing the crowd, watching the enviroment, seeing the sites and dining on the carribean cuisine. she hadn't accessed her stationary set the whole time but her 6th sense hinted a disturbance in the atmosphere on the 3rd night. she would talk to the occasional stranger and all the guys she could have danced with were freaked out by her exotic amulet. and she had to throw a fairly large number of greasy, fat, slimy, unwashed, Otaku geeks off of her back, bathing quite often to remove the "taint" of the "impure flesh" from her body. though she had her full sailor seifuku in her bag, she also had her ceremonial raiment packed, her sukumizu, and a multiple misscellanius modest street quality outfits. today, since it was fiesta night, she decided to wear her ceremonial raiment consisting of a white Wrap on shirt with a pair of long detached sleeves and a deep red hakama. her double sided black and white dragon coin amulet worn with the black side visible and her wooden sandals, complete with thighlength split-toe socks. her black hair held up in a single ponytail by both a deep red ribbon and a pair of barrettes modeled after phoenixes. a white tigerstriped armband on her left shoulder. with a pair of miniature tortoise shell shaped dangling figures hanging off of her sleeves.

Shinko was about 5 feet tall or somewhere around there and of extremely slight build, with a lack of curvature, breasts, or other conventionally appealing qualities. she had soft features and smooth skin and her eyes were hazel. she had to bring her grandfather to accompany her in order to even get a ticket.

Con check Vs DC 10 to avoid sea-sickness whilst on anti-emetics (if necessary): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8.

Much to his relief, Geoffrey finds that he has no trouble adjusting to life at sea.

Over the past couple of days, Geoffrey has been puzzled by the 'disappearances' at meal-times, and the rounds of medical staff going from state-room to state-room. He did offer to help, but was politely rebuffed, being told that the situation 'was being handled'.

This was not unexpected, and truth be told, was not unwelcome; he was supposed to be on holiday, after all...

...Still, his curiosity was aroused, and he kept an eye-out for anything 'unusual'...

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22.

I hope that we do not have some sort of epidemic on our hands; that would really ruin everyone's holiday...

----

Geoffrey attends the Fiesta in his suit, and is enjoying himself immensely (although he gives the rather angry-looking young Japanese woman a wide berth), up until he notices that the familiar throb of the engines has trailed off.

That's odd. I wonder what has happened now?

Male Half Orc Cleric 2 Fighter 2

Shinko:

I still need two d20 rolls to check for sea sickness since you are not a crew member.

Okay, you see several cleaning people working 'late' and with cleaning chemicals on handles, doors, railings, and all the furniture items.

You also see them wearing face masks and gloves while they clean which is usual in Japan but unusual in North America and Latin countries. The majority of the cleaning staff appears to be Latin which makes this unusual to see them dressed this way.

You also think that some of the 'crew' have been pressed into doing cleaning.

You have also heard some whispers of Norwalk virus.

Your reading of western cruise ships is that the Norwalk virus has been a problem in the last few years. Whole ships have become contaminated and still been put to sea by the cruise lines eager to avoid having a ship put into harbour and go through a lengthy two week decontamination period.

The writing you have seen on the topic in your study before coming to the ship suggests that this is a violent stomach ailment and it is very persistent on surfaces and highly contagious. It is not uncommon for a whole ship to be contaminated in a matter of days.

--------------------

Please tone down the references to sweaty Otaku. I happen to be friends with quite a few Cos-play and 'Otaku' including some convention organizers.

If you want to write such a thing for your own personal thoughts then please put it in a spoiler tag.

I will also advice that if you want to throw a person around then this would be still covered by the standard laws of society which would make this a possible 'assault' charge and likely get you 'confined' to your cabin even if you were the 'wronged' party.

If the other party chose to 'press' charges then you could face your passport being removed until a court could decide 'guilt' which could take several months. Being a traveler, you would be aware of such penalties and booking agents will often remind you of such 'rules' when you travel.

You also note the ship has started to put several large 'search' lights directed out into the water where it high lights a small pleasure boat or fishing boat like people use to look for Marlin in these waters.

Vic is only tangentially aware that anything is amiss aboard ship. After all, sick people don't frequent the gym nor are they much interested in rock climbing.

In fact, the whole journey is pretty typical and boring in his eyes. Mornings spent making sure nobody dashed their brains on the deck, afternoons spent in the gym or pool, another shift and then night-time.

With most of the passengers engaged in Fiesta Night, he finds the perfect excuse to wander the ship and gaze at the star-specked horizon over the rails. He finds himself near the festivities a bit before midnight - near enough to hear salsa music and the occasional exclamation in bad Spanish.

Then a sinking feel hits his stomach and, after a moment, he realizes the familiar thrum of the engines has started to slow. Ah, hell, he thinks. Hope something's not wrong down there.

Never terribly decisive, he turns around and leans back against the rail, wondering if he should go see what it's about or to trust the folks that'd been hired to fix that sort of thing.

I'm taking the 'no mingle' clause rather seriously, but I'm assuming he can get within proximity to hear anything happening and come running. If not, one of his crew member acquaintances can find him and drag him in.

Male Half Orc Cleric 2 Fighter 2

Vic:

You are a member of the crew and you get a daily 'briefing' and 'duty' assignment.

There has been a 'briefing' provided by your supervisor to all the gym staff and trainers.

The Official Briefing is as follows;

'All crew are reminded that discussion of viruses and diseases can have an adverse effect on a cruise ship resulting in unwanted media attention. It is the policy of the ship that no crew member may talk or engage in conversation within ear shot of passengers on any discussion of viruses or disease. Any passenger with questions should go to their cabin and call the ship nurse. The number is in the ship directory on the first page for the passenger's convenience.'

'All crew are reminded of the importance of cleaning areas of public traffic with approved agents as soon as possible. This includes chairs, stools, cupboards, handles, doors, fitness equipment, and other items. This cleaning should be done to show our attention to the safety of our passengers and not to cause them anxiety. If questioned on the usage of the cleaning agents, crew should smile and stress they are making sure that the passenger has a clean and safe voyage.'

'All crew are reminded that it takes many days for any 'testing' results to come back from laboratories and they are not 'trained' technicians or medical personnel. If there are any virus or diseases found to be present then the crew will be the first to be alerted and given further instructions. The captain places the safety of the ship as her highest priority and she looks to you to be her first priority. You are the ship and the vehicle for keeping her functioning well.'

Beyond that statement, you were 'unofficially' told to make sure to clean everything especially high traffic items like doors and equipment touched by people's hands on an hourly basis.

------------------------

Being an off shift time for you, you hear the below deck buzz signaling the crew to watch for an retrieve a person that is 'overboard'.

Being trained in Athletics and likely CPR and life guarding you are given a notice to join the standard recovery search teams.

Reaching the crew decks, you can see the ship has its search lights turned on and the lights appear to be focusing on a small boat of some kind.

Male Human Soldier

Smerg:
Vic is quick to report as asked, actually a little glad for the excitement.

If there's anybody else around, he asks what's up and tries to get a closer look at the boat, seeing whether or not it's part of the rescue team.

You can see the ship is preparing one of its launches at the water line to go forward but that is not your duty station in such an 'emergency'.

The ship in the lights appears to be a small day boat or fishing boat like many people use to fish for Marlin in these waters.

Your team supervisor tells you that your group won't likely be needed and are just called to duty as a standard precaution. You are mostly watching in case one of the crew getting in or out of the launch makes a mistake.

The boat appears to be abandoned and in 'international' waters (like much of the Eastern Caribbean the waters of 'international' and 'owned' by a territory or nation are practically on top of each other). Maritime law requires the cruise ship to stop and lend assistance.

The radio is broadcasting an SOS pattern.

Likely, it is a ship that was pirated by drug runners and now abandoned.

The ships name is 'The Typhoon Mary'.

Hmpf. So the cruise-ship owners put company profits ahead of the health of their customers. Why am I not surprised?

He also makes a mental note to engage in contact precautions in the future. You can never be too careful, after all...

When he notices that the ship is casting spot-lights onto a small vessel off to the side, he moseys over to the side to get a better look, but makes sure to stay out of the way of any 'official' activities.

Hmmm. I wonder what is going on here?

Male Half Orc Cleric 2 Fighter 2

Shinko has avoided sea sickness.

The usage of search lights has started to attract passengers as word starts to spread through the ship.

Passengers start to filter out on to the decks to watch what is occurring.

The passengers can see the crew have one of the launches, used to ferry people to some of the port of calls, in the water and are cruising towards a small pleasure boat or fishing boat.

The search lights show the boat is called 'The Typhoon Mary'.

Several of the passengers are pointing with one hand while drinking flower and fruit decorated drinks with the other.

Some of the crew have to move quickly to prevent intoxicated passengers from flipping over the railing and into the water.

Male Human Dedicated Hero 2 (HP 12/12) (AC 14/14/10) (Fort +3, Ref +2, Will +5) (Init +2)

Doing his best to avoid the more inebriated patrons (other than sparing them a few glances of mild disgust), Geoffrey continues to keep an eye on the proceedings below, deeming it to be more interesting than anything happening up on deck.

Honestly, why come on a cruise if you intend to get so drunk that you probably will not remember it afterward? Ah well. As long as they do not cause problems for the other passengers, I guess it is doing no real harm... As long as they don't fall overboard, that is...

Male Human Soldier

Since it looks like everybody's aware now I'm gonna drop spoilers.

Vic's down on the crew decks so any interactions here are still with NPCs.

Vic exhales heavily, doing a passing job of not appearing disappointed, even if he doesn't appear convincingly relieved.

With nothing exciting to do and feeling a little guilty about feeling that way, he focuses all his attention on the proceedings and avoid eye contact. As he realizes the ship's name is Typhoon Mary, he can't help but let out a breathy chuckle as realizes what the name's meant to invoke.

"Helluva name for a ship," he mutters under his breath.

Male Half Orc Cleric 2 Fighter 2

Over the next thirty minutes you can watch the recovery effort occur.

Three bodies are loaded on to the launch and the launch and it appears that two of the crew take charge of the boat, Typhoon Mary and drive it off into the dark.

Presumably, it will be driven to some Coast Guard station for lawyers to determine its final custody after fines are assigned and a probate period is observed.

The launch returns to the ship and brings three forms aboard. Two are covered in tarps and one is immediately attended by the ship's surgeon and medical staff.

With the bodies recovered from the boat, the ship begins to turn off the search lights and prepares to get underway again.

Crew that were called to station are freed to return to their bunks.

It is around Midnight.

Male Human Dedicated Hero 2 (HP 12/12) (AC 14/14/10) (Fort +3, Ref +2, Will +5) (Init +2)

Deciding that the excitement for the night is over, Geoffrey decides to retire for the evening; he wants to be up early in preparation for the ship's next scheduled rendezvous.

He does, however, make a mental note to try to acquire more information about the boat from the crew the following day...

Male Half Orc Cleric 2 Fighter 2

Heading to bed you note that there are several people having difficulty with the mixture of alcohol and the sea.

It might also be the reports of Norwalk working its own magic but there are several people rushing to use whatever they can or the sides of the railing.

It might be Fiesta night on the ship but it looks like the fish will be getting most of the leftovers.

Inside your cabin you can hear people continue to have difficulties during the nights.

Drunk on Cruise Ship

Male Human Dedicated Hero 2 (HP 12/12) (AC 14/14/10) (Fort +3, Ref +2, Will +5) (Init +2)

Geoffrey winces a little as he regards his fellow passengers.

Oh dear. I hope that they do not cause too much trouble; it would be unfortunate if any of them went over the side, as that is sure to create a ruckus...

He then locks himself in his room, curls up in his bed, and tries to sleep...

Female Tian Cleric

Unlike most of the passengers during the night, Shinko remained Sober. for several reasons, the first being her age, the second being her belief that one's body is a temple and thus should not be desecrated by such toxic filth, a third being that even though she wanted to enjoy the night, she didn't want any sexual activity to occur, due to her age, and also due to her responsibilities at the Ichigo Shrine. she would also throw off any unwanted otaku nerds who dare to harass her. she could reliably throw off the less physically fit ones, but some of them, she had to slip away from with amazing ease due to her slight build. she failed to kick past the fat of any of the more persistent geeks due to her relatively soft impact.

With the night's excitement apparently abated, Vic takes his leave of the team and continues wandering the ship, keeping an eye on the drunks to make sure nothing untoward happens.

He'll keep this up for another half-hour or so before retiring to the crew decks and getting his rest before the morning shift.

Female Tian Cleric

After Shinko Gets bored of the festivities and suffers timezone issues, she will head back to her suite, enter it, lock her door and bolt it, and move the TV, stand and all, to create a barricade behind her door, she will close every window and close the curtains, and she will chant her nightly protective mantra before bed. she was hoping to get some formal dancing done but instead, she got harrassed by otaku nerds whom were seemingly mocking the afterlife. she asks her grandfather, whom had accompanied her to aqcuire the tickets, to light a candle in each corner of the room. a superstition she beleived would protect her from unwanted calamity.

You head down into the crew levels.

Heading to your section you pass the master white board which lists things like where people are working on a particular shift or day. Given the size of ship it helps the head staff keep on top of things and is quick way to go looking for someone.

You pass it glancing to see where they have you scheduled for the next day and see that quite a few of the crew are already listed as ill. You pass the junction that leads to the crew infirmary and drug dispensary and see a large line of crew, at least two dozen, in various states of illness.

Being one of the junior staff, you are booked four to a room in paired bunks. One set of bunks on either side of the room with a pair of lockers and chests for storing personal items and clothes.

The ship provides two sets of uniforms to each crew along with a special 'dress' uniform for formal occasions. The usual thing is to where one uniform on alternate days and have the other washed in the ship laundry.

You reach your room and can hear retching sounds coming from the rooms head. At least one of your room mates appears to have fallen ill.

Shinko Ichigo wrote:

Well, in the Anime Bleach, Ichigo, refers to a guy with red/orange hair, I'm not sure it would even be a "girl's" name. This is if you are using the standard Japanese custom of putting the family name first and given name second. This would give Shinko as a family name. Again, ko would be odd as part of a family name as it is usually added after to denote a less superior. This is where a westernized hybrid word like Samurai-ko is used in L5R to represent a female Samurai.

Then again, I try not to think hard on players and their namings of things. I have to scratch my head at many of the ways things are done with Japanese as the language has different words for things depending on who is the speaker and who is the listener. It goes often further to having people usually prefer taking a person's name and turning it into a nick name based upon a play of words or the kanji chosen to represent the sounds. A great deal is made in the manga/anime Deathnote on what kanji Light Yagami chooses.

If on doubt on what to choose for a name, rob an anime character of their name. Just try to stay away from a main character as their name is often purposely odd to be a 'play on words' that is usually lost in translation to people like me without someone putting in a comment line in the Subs to explain it.

You lock yourself in your room.

You set up an offering to the wooden grave marker that houses the spirit of your Grandfather. The standard offering of incense and food are provided.

You put up some writings with various sacred phrases written upon them to ward your room.

While your room is fully warded, it can't stop the sound of the people partying in the hallways from reaching you.

Your highly attuned priestess senses can smell the vomit that must have been spilled on the carpet in the hallways.

Male Human Soldier

Oh, boy, Vic thinks, grimacing. He was rarely sick, but as catching as this bug seemed to be he was starting to get worried. A sick bunkmate was a nuisance in both the short and long terms.

Rounding the corner into the room, he takes a moment to see which roommate it is before asking, "Hey, you OK? Need me to take you to the docs?"

You are allowed to do all sorts of wild and crazy stuff prior to turning 18 in Japan. Gangs are composed of people under 18 because the law forgives people under 18. After 18 it is a different matter. Teens have a fair amount of freedom since plenty of travel is done by public transit. Traveling alone while not common, would not be terrible at 17, especially since you used your own money. You are expected to get your craziness out of your system before 18. Though, some people might have expectations for you to start to consider marriage contracts when you return if you are from a traditional family. It might even be part of the 'deal' with your parents / guardians.

Female Tian Cleric

As Shinko tried to sleep, she clutched her amulet tightly, Twas a gift from her grandfather a week before his passing, a personal treasure that made her remember grandfather Ichigo Tensei, former owner of the Ichigo Family shrine before it was willed to her, to be recieved upon her 18th birthday, which has yet to come.

she was remembering her arranged betrothel to a young man named Hanako Yukina, who is now currently the young head of the famous Hanako theater within the red light district. a theater that advertised true japanese Kabuki plays and always seemed to accomodate Sakura petals with every show. it was he that created most of her clothing by hand and he who supplied her with the best homeade sweets she ever had.

she remembered that even though she and her grandfather were especially happy with the choice, her father had second thoughts sprouting from such an "Effeminate" male. yes, the guy was a breadwinner for sure, but sewing, home economics, drama, and art seemed an unsettling choice of extracurricular courses. making passive aggressive puns about thier daughter ending up with a "Wife" as they put it.

she continued distracting herself with these memories until she slept.

her arranged future husband is also a kabuki actor who plays a lot of female roles and is quite effeminate. still an honorable individual, it's just that her father didn't have the tolerance that her grandfather or the rest of the family had. and the guy was given a feminine name on purpose. Yukina is actually a nice guy and quite helpful to the Ichigo family being Shinko's Fiancee.

...he mutters something distinctly uncomplimentary, rolls over, and goes back to sleep...

Thanks for the update :-)

Vic:

If you are not doing anything more then I'll advance your story a bit.

Your room mate continues to be sick for an hour or two but by around 2:30 am breaks down and admits he is sick and goes to the infirmary leaving you to have the room essentially to yourself for the next four hours.

The other two bunk mates have duties keeping them out through the night hours with security patrol and bar tending.

When you rise in the morning, you head for the door and open it to find things are in more of a shambles then normal. It appears that Fiesta night has gotten more out of hand then usual and some of it has come down into the crew area.

It is either that are the virus is really taking a hit on the cleaning staff as the hallway shows several of the rubber plants have been knocked over and streams of TP run up and down the hallway.

Where would you like to head next?

Geoff:

The sounds start to die down and you fall into a deeper sleep which takes you to morning.

You get up to go to the door and find the complimentary 'ship paper' which is usually a USA Today dropped off by an overnight express has not arrived and been placed at your door.

There are clear signs the cleaning crew has done little to clear up some puddles of vomit that are drying into the carpet.

You can also see a couple people that appear curled into the fetal position having fallen asleep on the ground where their drunkenness landed them.

Being a trained EMT person, you even think there is a bit of drying blood at the corner of the next cross hallway. Likely, someone drunk and running in the hallway took a header into the corner.

Where would you like to go next?

Shinko:

The night has passed and you prepare for a new day.

Are you going to stay in your cabin locked behind the dresser or are you going to head out to the ship?

Vic will take a meandering route towards wherever it is they take their meals, preferably dropping by the infirmary to see if he can get an update from anyone on just what the hell's happened down here. If he remains zombie-free, he will then go take said meal.

Okay, how would you go around helping to cure people with hangovers. Do you have any medical supplies and what type would they be or are you just helping people to their feet to get them moving.

just helping people get to thier feet and helping them move. and similar basic assistant duties that involve retrieval if neccessary. no giving of medications involved, if allowable, i may use a well placed series of poking techniques to draw help from various biological factors (effectively acupuncture without needles). the pokes will target specific key nerves that influence specific systems of the human body in charge of bloodflow, waste production, respiratory, and similar stuff.

To determine pulse and respiration, you do not need any tools - under normal circumstances, you can determine respiratory rate from the rise and fall of the patient's chest, and pulse by palpating the radial or carotid arteries; it is, after all, just basic first aid :-)

Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19.

Sorry, I missed the bit about the 'Treat Injury' roll before...

Requested rolls...

I call this the rule of inverse modifiers.

Perception
1d20 - 2 ⇒ (19) - 2 = 17

Init... if needed
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

Shinko:

Okay, so you are using acupressure if needed to help revive the people.

Okay, give me also an Initiative roll, just in case.

Geoff:

The reason that I asked on equipment is that I like to know what you might be carrying at the moment, in case it becomes important. It helps as a GM to get an agreement of what your character currently has in the way of tools and the approach being taken for treatment or diagnosing. In a Zombie game, these kind of questions can be important.

Alright, you check the first body and the skin is wet and clammy. They are clearly perspiring heavily like in a fever but their flesh feels cool to the touch. The eyes are open and they are breathing but it is pretty clear that the eyes are also unfocused. The curling fetal behaviour is probably from pain or muscle cramping.

The other person appears to be in a similar state.

While checking the vital signs of the second person, you are quick enough to avoid a spew of fluids from the persons mouth.

What would you like to do?

Vic:

Favourable and Unfavourable Circumstances p59 SWSE (Star Wars SAGA Edition) or Skill Basics: Miscellaneous Modifiers p43 and Favourable and Unfavourable Conditions p45 in Modern d20. Having bounced off a few walls in the first minutes of a morning before getting my coffee and a chance to wake up, I think it is decent representation.

You round the corner to the infirmary area and are able to spot a crew person stumbling around the corner the other way. You can spot their preparing to heave and step to get clear.

You are not quite fast enough and end up getting some of the vomit on your shoes.

The crew person quickly collapses after vomiting and starts to go into some sort of shaking seizure.

What would you like to do?

Apologies. I will be specific. Since Geoffrey is not going 'off ship', I imagine that he would not be fully kitted out. However, he would have the following items:

Casual clothing (Blue cotton short-sleeved work-shirt + Navy-blue work pants + black socks + black Doc Martins)
Cell phone
Akubra hat
Compass
First Aid Kit

The rest of his equipment (apart from his clothes, which would be hanging in his closet), would be neatly stored in his backpack.

-------

As he assesses the vitals of the crippled passengers, Geoffrey becomes more and more concerned.

What the devil is going on? these men are definitely ill; they look like they have gastroenteritis, and might even be going into shock. Where on earth are the crew? They should be handling this!

Remembering that the agent that was rumored to be on board was also highly infectious, and knowing that he does not have any personal protective equipment, Geoffrey will reluctantly leave the passengers where they are, reasoning that there is little that he can do for them.

He does, however, immediately go to the intersection where the blood is, to see if something worse has happened there...

Shinko:

You go to help one of the party goers that is laying on the ground.

The first person appears to be cold to the touch but perspiring making them wet and clammy to the touch. They likely have some sort of fever.

You start to use some acupressure to help move the chi around.

The person seems to start to come around for a second and then groans more and starts to heave out vomit.

You move quickly enough to avoid getting hit by any of the spew.

What would you like to do?

Geoff:

You turn the corner and can there are bits of blood trailing away from the corner.

Please make a Survival roll and a Treat Injury roll.

Hank:

Gather Information roll 19; so,

The first three days have been alright. You've been able to break even but you have yet to land the 'Great Whale' in your gambling. If you get some more time then you might find what your looking for. Their were a couple of Saudis with more money then sense but you hadn't yet been allowed to get close enough to their table but you'd seen the table stakes they had and it was easily one hundred grand possibly two hundred grand in the main pot.

You'd seen larger stakes in Las Vegas but it was certainly a huge prize if you could score it or even a third from them.

The third night had been Fiesta night on the ship but the casino really ran to its own schedule of time. The only really indication of Fiesta night on the ship was the few people coming into the casino with various costume hats.

During the night of play, there were a few people that left fairly suddenly for the bathroom and didn't come back.

You'd heard some rumours that there was some sort of sickness going on with the ship. You just hoped it wouldn't mess with your chance to score the 'big one'.

How late are you playing the third night?

DM:

Spoiler:
Hank had gotten a bit frustrated by this juncture. While patience was a virtue, it wasn't exactly Hank's strongest characteristic. He had to figure out a way into the Saudi's game. While considering that thorny issue, Hank was waiting for the table to warm up. He was playing conservatively, mostly pushing chips back and forth waiting on the inspiration to get the call to the Big table.

Always perceptive, he noticed people leaving. Through small talk, he had heard about people getting sick on the cruise. Should've just stayed in Vegas. I'm sure Fast Johnny had a couple cash games going that I could've cleared much mroe than this. Last thing I need is to get sick.

While the action kept going, Hank decided to stay and push hi s luck. He celebrated Fiesta night by having the complimentary margueritas instead of whiskey. He decided if nothing happened, he would stay until about 2 am and re-evaluate after that. Nothing good ever happens after midnight...unless you play poker, he smirked.

Hank:

Okay, your luck doesn't much change by 2 AM.

You've heard some people talk a bit of the ship having stopped momentarily to pick up some people.

You don't really gather the details as it really isn't important to the game and is just table chatter people use to try to see how focused you still on your cards.

People looking for a bit of small talk to get a tell to show amongst 'real' players.

You're fairly sure that the table you're at has at least one more 'shark' and probably a couple of online amateurs.

You're not as worried on the online amateurs. They know the odds of the cards and will fold when the odds don't play the hand well. They just don't have the real people skills that 'full contact' poker requires. The ability to get a gut instinct on whether the person has the cards or they're just pushing gas.

The 'shark' is more the problem as he seems to be hunting the same whale as you. He is going by the name of Bill from Ohio but you're pretty sure his real name is something else. He may have travelled through or possibly grown up in Ohio but you doubt that is where he makes his living and it certainly isn't working in a parts factory stamping out metal rings like he says. His hands are way too smooth for that to be his profession.

By 2 AM you cash in for the night.

You hear quite a few of the girlish squeals of people being chased around. It seems Fiesta night has attracted the livelier Collage crowd and they're not ready to head for 'bed' for another couple of hours.

There are also a few people that you have to weave around that are walking pretty shakily along. It is pretty clear that more than a few have crowned the throne this night.

Oh, I understand the -2 and agree completely. My comment was at the fact I rolled 19 for the low modifier and 2 for the high modifier. My group's always called it the rule of inverse modifiers - the better you are at it, the more likely you are to roll low (and vice versa). Excuse my imprecision/levity.

"Oh hell, what happened to you?" Vic asks, shifting his weight about from foot to foot uncomfortably. "Docs!" he yells, hoping someone's still on their feet in the infirmary. "Got a seizure out here!"

Since I assume Vic knows basic first aid he'll, uh, do whatever is appropriate for a seizing person. I admit personal ignorance on this matter. If nobody shows up while he's doing it, he'll poke his head into the infirmary when he's done.

DM:

Spoiler:

"Well Bill, I reckon I'll be seein' ya in the morning," Hank says with a sly nod and a grin, as he gets up to exit the table. He heads toward the sound of the uplifting music, knowing the sun will not be beating him down at this late/early hour. Even if I am too old to do much with it, ain't nothin' wrong with lookin, he thinks as he hears the titters of what he hopes would be some pretty young ladies, floncing around in their bikinis.

Female Tian Cleric

Shinko will try to do this to as many partygoers as she can without biting more than she can chew. moving them to the sickbay/infarmary and tending to thier needs until an actual member of the ship's medical staff arrives. she will hopefully repeat this over the day with different passengers depending on the medical staff to do the major stuff. doing this in shifts of 5 or 10 patients should work.
