Basic premise for my homebrew setting

Homebrew and House Rules

I am batting around some ideas for a campaign, but thought I would get some feedback on some of the basics. Some of this may not even affect the players, at least at first.

Major breaks from standard:

  • Templars instead of Paladins.
  • No chromatic or metallic dragons, just the primals from Bestiary 2.
  • Barbarians as a trait. The class renamed Berserker. Have a primitive fighter archtype for non-berserkers.
  • Some archtypes and classes very restrictive as to represent cultures. Kinda done already, but I am really wanting to use this to drive different cultures home to players.
  • And the rest slips my mind, lol. Will post more of them later.

  • What's the theme of your campaign?

I am not completely sure at this moment. Was thinking a bit like Iron Kingdoms. It is mostly traditional fantasy mixed with light steam punk. Will use some flying ship rules, but won't be the main thing. I guess it could losely resemble some of Eberron. Heavily influenced by Dragon Age: Origins.

I have some ideas for a history for the world, but most of that won't be necessary for the players.

    • Elves descended from a group of advanced elves that had a war that diminished them to present day stats. Ancient elves more like a surface version of noble drow. This will be the backstory for the creation of the drow.
    • Dwarves similar in concept to Dragon Age: Origins dwarves.
    • Gnomes an offshoot o the dwarves that are sorta like tinker gnomes, only not quite as annoying. Creators of all things gear related.
    • Some other races like the Litorians.

    What about Linnorm's Page 190-192 Bestiary 1.

    What about Wyvern's page 282 Bestiary 1

Wyverns most likely. Linnorms, the jury is still out, but leaning to yes. linnorms can fill many of the dragon roles that don't really need true dragons.

Another race I will use, if only as story related, are the Ironborn. They will have originated as mainly the soldiers of the gnomes. Later manumitted for services rendered. Much like the Eberron warforged.

You said flying ships... what kind

    Wood Boats with sails
Sea Creature ship.. like spell jammers.
Iron Ships ... like the civil war.

    Or something else

Some Spelljammer influence A little bit of Skyships of Nova Avalon and a little bit of Airships.

This immediately catches my interest: were/are the gnomes a big power player? Did they have their own ambitions of rule? I think it would be cool if gnomes were more than the facilitators of everyone else's projects.

Haven't worked many details out, but I am wanting them to have an independent country or city-state of their own. They will be a driving force, albeit a little crazy at times.
