Hearing the men boast of their prowess, Ylvan shakes her head and says something in a sarcastic tone to Hugin. She makes her way over to the table. "Well then, it sounds like we could storm Valhalla itself if we wished with this troupe. My name is Ylvan, this is Hugin and together we work to discover the mysteries of the world. I do my best to keep warriors such as yourselves alive when they are wounded. We're also adept at controlling the underlying spirits of the world to call aid for our allies or hinder our enemies. It sounds like most of you could use some wise advice too, to make sure you don't run off and get yourselves killed too quickly."

Male Tiefling Conjurer 2 (AC/Mage Armor: 15/19 [T: 13 FF: 12/16] | HP: 17/24 | F+1, R+3, W+3 (+5 vs. Illusions) | Init: +3 |Perc: +2/+4 [Voroan: +9])

Upon hearing Gaddi's uncertainty in his usefulness, Tyrus responds. "Oh, don't be so quick to sell yourself short, stand tall, stand proud, and let the world know of your worth. Sometimes the strongest weapon you can bring to bear is confidence in yourself. When others see it from you, they will have more of it in you."

After they have gone around with their introductions, Tyrus decides to take action, stepping up onto a chair nearest the center of the building, clears his throat and begins to speak.

"Noble villagers, we are here to help with the problems you are facing, but we are new to much of the information involving the attacks that have happened. If you would come forward with whatever knowledge you have of these attacks, we will be able to investigate them further. Our involvement may just be what will help you out of this predicament."

Diplomacy 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16

The villagers exchange wary glances, too prideful and cautious to readily accept the help of strangers. But they [are[/i] in need of help, and one young man comes forward. His left arm is heavily bandaged. "I doubt you have the guts to face the monster," he says quietly, "but mark my words, it's common' back tonight. If you'e going to stick around you might as well help. I could tell you what I saw when it attacked."

Male Tiefling Conjurer 2 (AC/Mage Armor: 15/19 [T: 13 FF: 12/16] | HP: 17/24 | F+1, R+3, W+3 (+5 vs. Illusions) | Init: +3 |Perc: +2/+4 [Voroan: +9])

"How can we not face this 'Monster' when it returns? Do you not see who you have in your presence?" Tyrus sweeps his arm to the side in an arc that falls on each of the heroes, ending and pointing to Bjarki. "Do you not see this great big, little to his family, bear of a man, broad as an tree and just as mighty. The man can take the blows of many a man's axe and still not be felled. The man who only the trees themselves recognize as not one of their own. You have in your midst, Bjarki of the Oak." he finishes by flexing his arms in front of him.

"Or picture the small man before you," moving his point to Gaddi "so unassuming at first, so willing to sell himself as less than he is. Ahh, but that it just his game. He has tricks up his sleeve, you won't see them coming, just when you think you've got him to rights.. he's gone." He spreads his hands apart with a poof. "As soon as you turn your back, he's right there, with another trick to play, and you never see it coming, and neither will the enemy. Standing before you, is none other than, Gaddi the Sprite." He bows to Gaddi with a flourish.

"Now gander at this man here," he points at Einer with both hands together and arms extended, as if cupping them to hold water. "He looks to be a simple woodsman, a man in the know of the forest. Hefty axe by his side he wanders alone. It is his knowledge of those woods that give him his gift. For his very concoctions have been known to make a man grow to twice his size, or allow wounds to seemingly disappear, and to him those are mere whimsy. We know not of the level of power he may bring to bear to make himself rival power that is just shy of the Gods. You have at your assistance, the very man himself, Brewmeister Einer." He finishes with the imitation of swirling a cup before upending it's contents into his mouth.

"Oh, and that is just the beginning, what do my eyes spy" he looks to Garlon, pointing two fingers at his own eyes before pointing them at Garlon's, to Peregrine's, then back to Garlon. "But the hunter that prowls the skies. He knows the hunt, the thrill, the chase. Nothing escapes his noble bearing, his piercing vision. He swoops in takes the kill, his prey know not what hit them. He strikes with speed and precision, and his quarry even appreciates being hunted by this most regal of creatures. He does not hunt alone, he is paired with the only other being known that can share in his true purpose. They strike as one, these raptors, diving into the fray" He mimics wings, with his arms outstretched, facing downward as if in a dive. "Look to the skies for the hunters that are Garlon and Peregrin, The Twin Birds of Prey."

"Oh, but it is with subtle reverence" he puts his palms together as in prayer as he turns his gaze to Ylvan, "that we come to the vision of vision herself. Her calm and peaceful wisdom shining through a world of darkness and the black heart of man. She is a seer, a vizier, a precognitive. She does not reach this range of knowing alone, she is assisted by a messenger of the heavens, a bird of dark so deep it is lost in the night sky as it flies to share the god's words with the prophet we see before us. The two of them, birds of a feather, avatars of both thought and understanding, avians of foresight, the owl and the raven." he puts his index and pointer fingers to his temples, focusing his gaze at Ylvan from beneath his brows. "Fix your gaze upon Ylvan and Hurin, The Nightbirds."

"As for myself," He holds his hand humbly over his heart, "I am but a humble storyteller next to these giants standing above the common man. I am just here to spin their yarn, be a herald to their prowess, a simple aid to their great accomplishments that they be understood by those that walk this mortal plane. I have skill in word and in deed, but mine pales in comparison to what these brave few have to offer. Yet I stand with them, together as one, I am the mortar that can hold beings of such power together, as on their own they are mighty, and together we are nigh unstoppable." he holds his hands palm up at his sides, lifting his gaze skyward as if beseeching the heavens, "I'm am just a simple skald, I am Tyrus Talespinner."

He looks with intensity at the man that came forward "Do we have the 'guts' to face the beast that attacked you? The real question is, does the beast have the guts to face us? So I ask all of you, speak up and tell us EVERYTHING you know of it, that we may bring its reign of fear to an end for your pleasant village."

Stepping down from his perch, he whispers to Gaddi, "That is how you sell yourself."

Hope these roll well, for all my bluster. I'm trying a kind of combination effect, trying to inspire the village to be brave, stand up, have faith in us enough to be willing to give any assistance we may need, and to stand up bravely against whatever it is that threatens the village. If possible, if it woos a young lady to join me for the evening as well, then so be it.

Diplomacy 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 to try and get more of them to speak up.
Perform (Oratory) 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13 to make the tale memorable.
Bluff 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17 for the exaggerations.
Sense Motive 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20 to see if I can tell who it is affecting.

Gaddi's eyes widen at Tyrus's description of him. A smile slowly forms on his face. When Tyrus steps down and whispers to him, he whispers back, "That was amazing. The sprite. I like that."

Male Human Eagle Shaman 1

"Impressive enough, I suppose, but words are still just words until converted into action. Still, it might be enough to convince these folks to give some idea of what we are dealing with."

There's silence in the hall for a moment. Part of Tyrus' plan backfired; after his speech, many of them seem too overawed to speak up. It wasn't the most amazing performance, but as they believed Tyrus and drank in every word, all were paying attention. Most seem surprised, intrigued, and a bit taken aback, with only a few incredulous. The young man takes a step back, but after people have resumed taking amongst themselves, he comes forward again. "Uh, I have some things to tell about the monster. I think-" he glances around "it was cursed."

Male Human Eagle Shaman 1

Garlon fights to keep his impatience out of his voice, "Do you know what kind of curse, or the source or the curse?"

The man edges almost imperceptibly away from Garlon. "Whatever it is, it takes the aspect of a wolf. Taller than our tallest man, with filthy fangs and claws... none of us wish to name the thing."

As the party typically levels up together, 30 XP to everyone for Tyrus' awesome roleplaying!

Hearing the young storyteller expound on the abilities of the group, a smile crosses Ylvan's face. When Tyrus describes himself as "a humble storyteller next to these giants", a soft laugh escapes from her lips. If that's humble, then I'd hate to see a boastful storyteller! she thinks to herself. Yet he does have an uncommon way with words, I hope he can handle a blade half as well as he speaks.

When the young man steps forward to volunteer information, she steps up next to Garlon. "Yes, now, out with it, you've nothing to fear, we trust you and will believe your tale. Your wounds are proof enough of its truth to me." she says rather brusquely.

Tyrus, that was simply great! One of the best posts I've seen a long time.

He finally mumbles, "werewolf. Not that any of us want to talk about it; some of the elders say we brought it on ourselves. Can't see why. But that's what it looked like." At the nearest opportunity, he flees.

Male Human Eagle Shaman 1

"Folks, as much as I can understand your fear, we need as much information as possible if we are to take care of this problem for you. You say you brought it on yourself. How so? Knowing this would speed up our task considerably." Garlon says as he say to Tyrus under his breath, "Care to try again? Only this time we don't need dramatics, we need information."

Male Tiefling Conjurer 2 (AC/Mage Armor: 15/19 [T: 13 FF: 12/16] | HP: 17/24 | F+1, R+3, W+3 (+5 vs. Illusions) | Init: +3 |Perc: +2/+4 [Voroan: +9])

Before he just starts spouting off, Tyrus tries to see if he can remember hearing anything about werewolves.

Knowledge Local (or is it Nature?) I'm not sure if they are humanoid or monstrous humanoid. Either way my bonus is the same, so take the roll and apply it to the appropriate knowledge. 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

He whispers to Garlon, "I'm drawing a blank on werewolves, let's hope these 'elders' have more information."

He turns and addresses the crowd, pleadingly "Gentle folk, these elders of yours bear knowledge that we may use to overcome this horror. If you would be so kind, all we ask now is if you could you take us to your leaders. From them we may be able to learn more of what we face, and how best to help your fair village."

Diplomacy 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager)/1

Knowledge Nature, if it is of any use: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

Facing the man, Bjarki adds, Yes, speak up. The more we know about this beast, the better we may face it...

Einar listens with a mix of awe and amusement as Tyrus encourages the villagers to speak up. He almost fails to hold back a laugh as he hears his title, but he does admit it is quite fitting. He wonders what Tyrus would have said if he'd known about the truly fiery 'concoctions' he could mix...

Ylvan is distracted as she insists on re-wrapping the young man's bandage before he leaves, muttering to herself "tsk, tsk, sloppy work here, let's make sure you don't get infected and lose this arm." She lets the more well-spoken members of the group do the talking, while she talks with Hugin about the possibility of encountering a werewolf and whether or not they know anything about such a thing.

Knowledge Arcana or Nature if applicable: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22

A serving maid leads the group to a stately house by the wall. It's escaped most of the damage. With little prompting, the elders, two old men, relate how they'd treated a visiting lord shamefully, even if he had been a cruel man. They'd turned him and his young daughter out to the wilds. The night before last, he'd come upon them in the shape of a wolfman and killed and savaged several of their skilled warriors and fine young men. He'd been driven off with fire but not mortally wounded. All yesterday they'd heard eerie howling, but last night hadn't brought an attack. Now, the town seems to be split between those who expect an even worse attack soon and those who think the cursed man has left. As far as the Heroes can tell, they've told all they know about the matter.

Guessing this is probably the little girl you guys saved from the spider earlier?

Seems like.

After the interview, the elders seem eager to have you leave. A few warriors are playing dice by the gates and gesture for you to go join them- or talk.

Male Human Eagle Shaman 1

Garlon will walk over to the guards. "What can you tell us of this strange beast that has been bothering your city?"

Male Human Rogue 1/Illusionist 0 (favoured class: rogue)

Gaddi goes over to the guards as well and will eagerly join their dice game if they'll allow him. "I like dice," he says. "Sometimes I get really lucky." He resists the urge to cheat.

The guards can give you a watered-down version of the elders' story. After questioning them, one of them (the young man Ylvan had tended earlier), asks if they will be staying to help fight the monster tonight.

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager)/1

Just asking: Was my Knowledge Nature roll of any use?

Male Human Eagle Shaman 1

"That's the idea. We came here to see what was causing the problems, and we seem to have found at least a clue to them. No point in leaving until that clue is fully investigated."
