Be careful, Itchy. The moment you finish this, everyone will be clamoring for detailed indices of all the novels and stories.

We have those, too, you know. Exhibit A.

Don't correct me when I'm clamoring, Moreland!

Listen to your browser, Dave. It knows how to clamour. :p

Excellent! I'm glad I'm not responsible for those!

Though, now that I know how to edit Wiki's, I may add more info if I see that it is needed and I have that info on hand.

Are the "Pathfinder's Journal" bits available anywhere else? (i.e. online, or as novels/downloads in themselves) - I've just got into the Card Game, but I'm not a Roleplayer, so buying the whole set of adventure paths just to read the stories doesn't sound particularly economical

You are absolutely correct! It would be ridiculous to buy all the AP books just to read the fiction. Most of the AP fiction has been released as an ePub here. They have also released much of the Web Fiction in the same place. Essentially, if it's $0.99, it's a Web Fiction; if it costs more, it's AP fiction.

Here are the direct links for the AP fiction.

The Compass Stone is the Pathfinder Journals from Rise of the Runelords, Curse of the Crimson Throne and Second Darkness.

Hell's Pawns is the fiction from Council of Thieves.

Dark Tapestry is the fiction from Legacy of Fire.

Prodigal Sons is the fiction from Kingmaker.

Plague of Light is the fiction from Serpent Skull.

Guilty Blood is the fiction from Carrion Crown.

Husks is the fiction from Jade Regent.

Light of a Distant Star is the fiction from Shattered Star.

The Treasure of Far Thallai is the fiction from Skull and Shackles.

The fiction from Reign of Winter and Wrath of the Rightous has not been released as an ePub yet.

I've been reading most things in publication order. I should probably write up my publication order list somewhere, as I had to collect the information from a bunch of different places to figure it out.

Eventually, I figured out that there's almost always a Web fiction by that comes out at around the same time as a novel by the same author, and that you want to read the web fiction first; it's usually a prequel of some sort. That led me to tweaking my dates a little bit, to put things in the "right" order.

Specifically with regard to Varian and Radovan, I've found some small advantage to reading them in publication order rather than in-world chronological order.

Tiny spoiler for The Fencing Master:

It was amusing when a much-earlier-in-time Varian, having picked up a few-day bodyguard hireling, makes a mental note to avoid having a womanizer as a bodyguard ever again. If we didn't already know about Radovan, that line would not have been amusing.

I've seen debates about people introducing their adolsecent kids to Star Wars; in what order do you show the movies? If you show it in-world chronological, lots of stuff gets spoiled, and the kids could potentially lose interest before getting to the good movies.... Arguments can be made either way.

(The movie Memento would almost certainly not have been nearly as interesting with the scenes rearranged in chronological order.)

The fiction portal on PathfinderWiki is kept up to date and lists all novels, Pathfinder Tales novellas, and web fiction stories, in chronological order of release, no less! Might be easier for folks who like to stay abreast of these lists to bookmark the page rather than continue updating lists on the boards that can't be added to after an hour.

Looking back over my favorites glad to see this moved to the wiki! Though is the chornological order Itchy had been keeping up on the wiki anywhere?

Note:You will not lose anything by reading any of these out of order. All of the Pathfinder Tales are written in such a way that a later story will not spoil a more recent story. I just put things in order because I enjoy reading them in order. Where stories are not connected, I have endeavored to place then in the order that they were published.

To assist the reader, I am adding some notation after each story.
N = Pathfinder Tales Novel
WF = Web Fiction
AP = Adventure Path Fiction

I managed to make the time to nearly finish. This is almost complete. I need to do a little bit of Research into the Amber E. Scott Tales.

Pathfinder Tales Chronolgy on the Pathfinder Wiki

Hey there--I'm new to the Pathfinder books and I'm interested in the Numeria/Iron Gods stuff. Are there any other novels/stories about that region other than Tim Pratt's A Tomb of Winter's Plunder > City of the Fallen Sky > Reign of Stars?

Thanks all!

I'm pretty sure that's about it in the fiction.

Thanks for getting the chronology straight. Important to note that although the short story Stargazer was posted after the release date of the novel Pirate's Honor, chronologically it is a prequel to the novel. Once again, it's not necessary to read the web fic first, but elements of the web fic are mentioned in the novel.

Thanks for doing this. I still have yet to start reading any of the Pathfinder fiction. It was a little confusing trying to figure out where to start and what order to go in. Extremely helpful!

You are most welcome!
