There we go:
This will be our Discussion Thread for the upcoming "Heart of Darkness" (no, not Joseph Conrad :-) )which will start in Kaer Maga in Arodus 4707.
Participating players are by now:
Drayen-Alexite Wintrish
Stephan-Torald Othric of Griffonstone
Gandal-Esfana Arantia
Von Doom-Bahir
Fatty-?
Beckett-Wait List no. 1
Martinaj-Wait List no. 2
Two Questions:
Would you like to use the board dice roller, or roll for yourself?
Do you want me to make your initiative rolls at the beginning of combat?
Zyren Zemerys |
Sry, double typo -_-
I'd be happy about any kind of feedback, since ,as you know, this is my first time pbp DM'ing.
During the course of the adventures I will award things, which may look like that:

Honestly, Zyren? I myself prefer RP being rewarded with XP over combat. Sure, killing some folk is an experience, but a good philosophical/moral discussion, a personal realization or the achievement of a personal goal should, imo, be worth much more XP than killing a few goblins. (Planescape: Torment is my favorite C-RpG, if you couldn't tell.)
I'm also a strong proponent of giving rewards outside of the regular class/xp/item range, such as, say, getting an inherent bonus to Profession(Carpentry) for helping rebuild a temple, or extra traits/less powerful feats. That's not for everyone, though.
I'll post character stats and such once I'm back from work. How do you make that alternate alias/avatar thingie for the character?
Zyren Zemerys |
Pretty much that is why i include the ad hoc awards. It helps people to recognize what they get xp for.
From time to time there will be xp summarizes for concluding chapters and the like, but there will also be ad hoc awards for outstanding ideas and roleplay...not for killing goblins. besides that i share your idea about inherent bonusses.
You can make new aliases in your account settings.

Human Rogue, with aspirations of going Duelist as soon as possible. Might mix in a level of Fighter or two. Fast, mobile, and such. To start with, Improved Initiative and Dodge. Probably going for Improved Feint soon. I'll post the proper character once I'm back home.
Between a Paladin, Bard, Rogue and a Cleric we should be fairly solid as far as physical combat goes. Healing and buffing is covered very well with a Bard and a Cleric. Arcane Magic ... the Bard works in a pinch, too. A Sorcerer or Wizard might be neat, nevertheless, if someone's still looking to decide on a role.

There is Fatty, but as long as i know Zyren hasn't heard from him since first post in recruit thread. And there are Beckett and Martinaj in waiting list.
To tell the truth i asked what race and class we had because in my game i have plenty of Aasimar, elves, dwarves etc etc, but only one human, and as such when the group is in dark areas (quite often as adventurers tend to do) he mutters he is the only one not seeing a damn thing.
Dirge Alexite Wintrish |
Alexite Wintrish here. I'll stat up the character, but wanted to get posted. As for rolling, I'm fine with the dice roller here. I like the mystery. In another pbp game here I have yet to make a social roll or sense motive roll, so it's been quite fun not having to read the spoilers and moving through the campaign clueless.

I think i misunderstood the question, i meant i use the dice rolling routine of the posting board

I think we should use the boards dice roller.
I have no problems with your proposition to roll our initiative.Gandal |
For Von Doom
Not that this is a problem for anyone, but you should change your avatar with that of Khair when posting as him, also you should name the skill rolls.
Added after Doom answer:eh! i posted from work yesterday, but had to wait to be the last left in the office. also i used a smartphone...not easy to post from such device
Von Doom |
Yeah, I only realized just now how commonly it's practiced here. If I can't find games that don't do it I'll probably opt out of this board in general and seek out Pathfinder games elsewhere; I very much enjoy a novel-like approach to online roleplaying, particularly when it's not even a live-chat environment where a certain flow has to be kept up.

In my own game i generally wait for all of my players in a specific event to post, unless they are doing something solo. The real problem with PbP is the difference in GMT's, but if i'm not wrong we are all from the same time zone in this thread (except Drayen) so the only difference should be in our respective work shifts i guess.
Anyway until the PC's meet and know each other i see no other way to handle a game, since everyone of us is still on its own.
Added: for example, atm i'm home and on my tabletop PC. Soon i'll be at work, and i'll be able to look here only once in a while from a smartphone, not sure if i can post, so i'll probably post again tomorrow morning.

The campaign starts in Kaer Maga in 4707.
I'm interested in a character background and a reason why he ventured to Kaer Maga.
I will roll stats for your character (just the values-you distribute them). And give you a bonus btrait after I read your background.
You choose the normal 2 traits yourself.
We only use the core rulebook and player companions (not the APG).

I have an idea for a young (mid-teens) Varisian sorcerer whose latent arcane talent only awoke a few days ago. The result was a localized but potent display of magic that nearly killed his childhood sweetheart, and he was run out of his caravan. He feels incredibly guilty about this and is a somewhat ashamed of his powers. He wants to learn to control them so such an incident will never repeat itself, and he's come to Kaer Maga because he feels such a place is where an outcast such as himself belongs.
He's been traumatized, but in the end is still a starry-eyed youth. He's of neutral good alignment, and whatever he might think of himself, he will usually rise to defend others when the need presents itself.
Will this character work for the campaign?

Powers just manifested you say? Yes, excellent, come join us, there is much you can learn.

Sorry for the delayed response. My power cord just broke! Fear not, I have it on good authority that with the holidays coming 'round, a shiny new laptop is headed my way, and until such a time, I'll be able to participate just fine by janking the PCs of various family members. I'm going to copy my important PDFs while my battery life lasts, and then hop onto the nearest computer and get a character up.

So I know you said no content from the APG, but I was wondering if I might be able to persuade you to allow the Starsoul sorcerer bloodline, because it's PERFECT for this character, and it would make him a little blastier than either of the two Core Rulebook bloodlines I'm considering (which seems to be the most ideal role for him to fill in this party). All of the bonus spells and feats are from the core rulebook, so beyond the unique bloodline abilities (which every bloodline gets), it brings nothing new into the game. If not, I understand, and I'll just go with either the Destined or Fey bloodline (still trying to decide which).
