he can claim he could only get one teleport in such a short time and didn't have a way to fly.

At my table, with characters of such high level, this argument just would not fly :-)))

Doubly so for an arcane caster.

Normally I'd make a comment regarding having not prepared it today/not having an open slot to prepare it into, but with the resources we've seen Tarkin and his group use a potion of fly is pretty chump change.

I have to admit I am getting anxious at a resolution to this encounter - both V against Laurin and the whole Tarquin mess.

Casterfight!

Loved it! It's like a Vulcan intimidate check.

Okay, now time for Roy and Durkon to come back. FIGHTERFIGHT!

Spoiler:
Who would know? I was right about Blackwing influencing the fight...

Of course the bauble-loving bird tackles the lady with all the ioun stones. Looks like V just got a +1 caster level. Or possibly Blackwing did, if he won't share.

Still the important factor was that Laurin lacked real motivation for keeping fighting - mercenary's morale (even when paid in favors) tends to be lower than truly dedicated combatant...

Also superior observation skills, intelligence and calculations... And a vengeful succubus little birdie telling sharing knowledge about opponents.

Isn't Sabine a succubus?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

*cough-cough* Yes, yes, she is, I keep forgetting that she is not a member of (fairly) typical PC race.

Which reminds me that I haven't had a chance to send a succubus at my party in Pathfinder yet... :(

Even before Blackwing said it, I noticed that one of the ioun stones was missing, and wondered if it was just the art or part of the plot. I guess he (she? Do we know Blackwing's gender?) is giving Haley a run for her money as leading sleight of hand artist in the Order.

Also, now we know why V wanted to keep the group running and force Laurin to keep teleporting to chase them. It was to make her use as much energy as possible on harmless stuff so she wouldn't have enough to nova later.

I think that Blackwing's gender, like V's is undisclosed and will remain so...

Nope, male..

(Assuming V knows, of course...)

Ahh, good catch.

Even though making Laurin retreat is a good enough victory I think goading her into spending all of her PP would be better dramatically. The fizzle of her well gone dry, followed by multiple backstabs and a final beheading swing would really drive home the point to Tarquin that his story is finally over.

I think finding himself alone, against an airship of enemies, should hopefully do much the same.

Or maybe just falling to his death like Roy did, barring a feather fall consumable.

I suspect she may not be entirely out of the tale just yet, she could still be on the ship...
What happens to Tarquin next will be interesting, the ship has just violently manoeuvred so Roy and co will be aware something is up.

At least Julio Scoundrel seems to be holding onto his rope.

Yeah, it was kind of anti-climactic, especially after the long wait.

That... may be part of the point. Anti-drama to defeat Tarkin's drama-centric thing.

That's way too meta for me!

Also, now V can use those 25+ spells to help fight Tarquinius Superbus.

Hmm.. Another possibility is that Laurin is hiding somewhere because she still wants that favor from Tarquin. However, since Tarquin is in 'Daisy,Daisy' land, he will run her through when she tries to pull him out.

Or ... she has realized that Tarquin has left reality (even by his own Meta-standard) an does not wish to die.

I got to say what I good comic. I actually care about the characters. I usally wait a month or more before checking back I can read several pages at once.

I want see a spin off starting Mr Scruffy, Blackwing and Bloodfeast who is still polymorphed into a lizard. A Belkar and Mr Scruffy doing a sarcastic Kung Fu based spin off would also be awesome.

I'm hoping to see Bloodfeast get turned back into a T-Rex at an opportune time in the future. I can just see the look on the bad guys faces when the Order realizes they still have something like that up there sleeves and dispels the polymorph effect.

Looking on the bright side instead of seeing what he is now as a hindrance they can consider him in a convenient easy to carry package.

936: End of the Line

YES!!!

This is a terrible Ending...

For Tarquin, yes. His plots fails, and his trope sense fails still more.

But I think is a great way of ending this part of the story.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

My favorite part is the disconnect between real-life-action (arrows to the face are also "just damage"), and DnD metagame ("you'll live" couple hundreds feet of fall).

so who thinks the new linear guild will be Tarquin and his cronies?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I still expect Sabine to jump out of nowhere trying to kill Tarquin at some unexpected time.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Finally.

It's just as well--Tarquin was merely cluttering up the obvious narrative arc between the Order & Xykon anyway.

3 people marked this as a favorite.

Best ending for the Order and pretty much what everyone was hoping for which given Mr. Burlew's penchant for doing the unexpected with Tarquin makes it unexpected. Bravo, Mr. Burlew bravo.

"You'll live."

Ironic echo.

I love that I never have to check the comic to see if it's been updated (and risk disappointment). I just notice the burst of activity on this thread and know the comic has been updated!

Nice

Poor Julio though. He still has a long ways to go. Hopefully in all the excitement they don't forget to pull him up and make him climb the rest of the way.

Nice to see Haley exact a measure of revenge too.

+1. That was so spot on.

I think Tarquin's last comment(and the pained look on his face) sums him up very neatly: "There's no sense of closure! I don't know what happens next!"
