I hope the raven and the cat (not to mention the much reduced Bloodfeast) will not die due to this attack.

Familiars and Animal Companions are NOT the most durable creatures.

Silver Crusade

The raven should have some worthwhile HP, due to advancing in level with his wizard. I don't think the cat or dino are technically animal companions, so they should just have basic HP for their races. With the dino, that might be enough to survive, though he's already injured from a triceratops horn through his chest earlier. For the cat, even min damage from 13d6 would knock it unconscious. Though it's possible I'm wrong about the cat. It might actually be a true animal companion at this point, in which case it gets better HP and evasion.

The cat is definetely an animal companion, but evasion wont help with will saves.

How this will end?

Tarquin.

If most role playing boss villains had half Tarquin's chutzpah there would be more TPKs out there.

I can't help it, I love him.

On the one hand, Tarquin definitely hasn't received the memo re: his irrelevance to the greater plot.
On the other hand, his own earlier statement re: 'Just making Roy seem more of a badass...'

There is still a romantically involved rogue in play...

But I did like the way Tarquin dealt with Belkor and Roy will have some role in the resolution here.

If this was part of a collection then the pacing would be fine but we're looking at another week of waiting. Even if this is ended next strip we're looking at 3+ denouncement pages and that is far too much for having to look at pycho-dad yet again magically thwomp the order with Miss unlimited PP.

Yeah, and we are paying good money....

Oh wait. It's free :)

Some people are paying good money.

Also, "oh wait, it's free" is no rational nor logical defense of criticism. Quality exists or does not exist and the ability to comment on same is not proportional to the amount paid (or not paid) to purchase something. If you put your work out for the public to view, then it invites criticism and commentary.

Sovereign Court

It's a fairly good answer to criticism that strikes solely at the rate at which the comic comes out (if this was part of a collection), given that there is an easy solution:

Wait to read the comic until there is a backlog built up.

Scarab Sages RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4; Contributor; Publisher, Legendary Games

Also, who is paying good money to read the current webcomic? Is there a service somewhere that charges to read it? That seems odd, given that it's free right on the publisher's site.

Ah, the great "Can you b$+%% about it if it's free debate." This should eat up a few pages...

Spoiler:

Irregular updates are one of the reasons I didn't contribute to the kickstarter, and one of the reasons I won't purchase any other merchandise. I'd gladly pay for the product if it were produced with some degree of professionalism and reliability. Given that it isn't, I buy what I must to follow the story (e.g., the compiled volumes to get the bonus strips), and nothing else.

I think I'd laugh if..

Mad Theorising:
Elan's crafted an illusionary Roy beneath him, and Haley's about to move in to flank Tarquin

Anyway, the problem isn't just that it's slow to update, it's that we've had cliffhanger after cliffhanger since Durkon got vamped, with the fight swinging back and forth to favouring OOTS, then Team Tarquin, then OOTS, then Team Tarquin.. there's only so many times that you can raise the stakes before fatigue sets in.

No fatigue for me here ;-)))

Tarquin is a pompous windbag, but here he shows how much of a bad-ass high-level fighter he actually is. Something we forgot those last few weeks as we were so convinced of the OOTS' inevitable victory.

I love the current strips and they have me wishing I could run forward in time to read the next.

Which is a sign of great quality in my book :-)

Also I love the "I said the real warriors" while kicking Belkar out of the way.

Granted, Haley will likely have an important part to play in the next strip since she is the only member of the OOTS not having her sitting parts handed to her.

Wondering how long Durkula can stay unalive under direct sunlight though :-/

Did anyone else notice how odd the current titles are : "Go" last week, "Through" this week. Will it be "The gate" in the next one ?

Unless, "The" is the next title, and Mr. Burlew stretches it out.

Which we all know he loves doing.

But I have to agree with Uzzy. I think we're gonna see some Loki level trickery go on here.

Not a problem for me as long as it stays that enjoyable ;-)

Getting tired of this sequence.

I actually stopped reading for a while with the whole 'Roy is still dead" storyline. That one dragged out far, far, too long.

Not I. Keep it coming. I know it's about to end but I'm enjoying every minute of it.

Almost three years since the start of this thread, I think I started reading the strip 9 years ago, not stopping anytime soon!

Yeah, I have to agree. This is excellent.

I tend to miss a few weeks/months of strips, then catch up all at once, then do so again. Usually work related missing, not by choice. :) But it usually ends up working for the best on the non-dailys I try to keep up with.

However, since I finally got to catch up this time, (SInce Durkon was bitten, Then I missed a few months!) I haven't been able to stop. Good stuff indeed!

What I enjoy is that on this thread alone we have many people all giving plausible theories as to where he's going next, but (to my knowledge) He always manages to surprise us! (Well,... me at least.) :)

Keep it coming! (I wanna see Belkar get Tarquin back for that kick & comment)

Loving it. If the characters can take it and stay congruent then let the Burlew go where he wants at his own pace. This is why Haley reaction will be key here I feel, not just arrows something bigger from her. We shall see.

Happy to see that the raven is still there. Left wondering about the cat (and the lizard). Though I guess that if the cat was dead, Belkar would not have gone down that easily (and would have targeted the psion rather than Tarquin).

I'd like the next title to be "Me!" and have Elan do something spectacular.

(though not illusory x's on Roys eyes or whatever, since Tarquin had a Ring of True Seeing a while back.

Tarquin must really understand action economy considering he somehow managed to have half a dozen turns without anybody but his companion and him doing anything.

I can only assume it has to be the power that was cast on them, and they all got unlucky at once with their saves.

Everyone else is stunned, hence the action economy.

If it's ultrablast (which it may not be), it's not a stunning power (which it may be, if it's not ultrablast).

I could see it if, say, they were disabled, though.

I love the speculation going on here for titles. Brilliant stuff.

Heh, I'm not complaining about the strip, I'm complaining about the complaining about the complaining about the strip.

And, of course, someone had to complain about that.. By my count that makes it fourth-order complaining.

Tarquin forgot the most important rules!

The first is 'Never get involved in a land war in Asia'
The second is, 'Never cross the main characters in the story, when DEATH is on the line!'

;)

Silver Crusade

The psionic blast was clearly a stunning affect. Elan and Vaarsuvius are both still unwounded, not to mention the raven. V, Belkar, and Roy are shown taking various amounts of time to recover. I'm assuming random duration per person, in rounds, and Elan just recovered faster than Roy. Or maybe proximity to the psion plays a roll, since Roy was closest to her when she blasted them, and he's stunned the longest.

The irony of Roy's namesake sword being shoved through him (and Elan) isn't lost on me.

Or it is a will save, considering the people stunned the shortest were thee 3 casters.

Also, I would like to point out V doesn't know what spell/effect was used. I imagine she has a custom spell just like the protection from the sun.

At this point it's hard to accept that one or more of the party (even Roy) hasn't been killed outright by all the damage they've taken, especially considering Durkula has not had healing spells for a dozen strips or more and can no longer spontaneously cast them.

I like the strip and I appreciate the author's efforts in creating it and all, but for me this particular story line has grown old and uninteresting.

Psionics uses a different knowledge skill and "psi" instead of "spell"craft. I don't know why he would have those.

Does that mean that Julio Scoundrel recognized Elan and helped him perfectly aware of who he is? Because if Tarquin recognize that sound it means that Julio probably is his old nemesis...
