I'm pretty sure it involves dish washing.

Durkon seems to have more control over showing Durkula memories than I realized. I knew Durkon's mind could jump to something and show it, but this seems like they're talking about a greater level of control than that. And Durkula cares more about that than I would have expected.

Now I'm really curious where this latest memory is going.

Do keep in mind that Durkula is in the middle of combat. Not a great time for a distraction.

There’s something about this that calls back to Durkon realizing Durkula can’t see how memories connect. I don’t know what, it just reminded me of how the vampire wasn’t getting what he got from watching old memories together.

I had some spare time.

These should be all the strips which involve memory sequences and most of Durkula and Durkon talking with each other. I skipped the inconsequential ones like Durkula plotting the vote and whatnot.

947-948

954

958

962-963

983

991

1007

1085-1089

1112

Then obviously the last two.

I can't seem to infer any meaning behind what Durkon's trying though. It seems like he's trying to show the value of friendship and family. Maybe some sort of emotional appeal?

Interesting. His middle name is Allotrope, which is a chemical property to exist in two or more different forms within the same physical state.

In 963 he has a very suspicious smile when thinking about the future.

It looks like the link between the memories in 962-963 is that they both focus on when to help without asking.

All I know is these memory cuts better connect toward Durkon dying some how. :p ;)

OOTS #1122: Dispelling Misconceptions
That baby is really calm.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

More like "Roy, you should know by now, getting cocky doesn't work for you..."

Also it appears there's a lot of low saves among the OotS.

You’d think a high level dwarf cleric would have a better save than a baby or a cat...

Or a Bard that cross classed into a prestige class...

4 people marked this as a favorite.

I mean he probably didn't bother counting the baby or cat as targets, but for sure if anyone should of saved it was the cleric. Seriously Belkar take iron will already. Maybe loki clerics are more charisma then wisdom? Or she rolled a 1.

Or it will make the story more interesting aka GM fiat ;-)

Yeah I doubt the writer rolled the die for each of their characters saves to figure out who would and would not be mindcontrolled

1 person marked this as a favorite.

It's entirely possible more vampires attempted control of the higher-priority targets, while only one each went for Wis-dumped Elan and Belkar.

It's also possible the DM God said "You get to fail! And you get to fail!'

Calm it down their Oprah

Bah, anyone can roll a 1... and I always got the impression MOST of these characters dumped wisdom :P

Liberty's Edge

Note how Durkon carefully avoided promising that he would not use the memory to trick Durkula

On another topic completely : does anyone know if Rich had a kid recently ? I showed the latest strips (with Hilgya and Kudzu) to my wife and she had the strongest suspicion that the author was inspired by recent real life experience. And that cemented in certainty because of the giraffes (like a famous baby toy).

Wait doesn't Belkar have a protection from evil vest? Did that get suppressed or something by the dispel?

He's got a clasp, but it needs to be activated and it affects him when it is, so he wasn't using it. Probably relying on the spells instead, since they don't weaken him.

Vid,

Sorry I just felt that need at the time...

Could Belkar bluff being dominated ?

Could the cat activate the protection for Belkar ?

What I want to know is what Durkula is doing with that chair...

2 people marked this as a favorite.

OH SNAP
ping bow string.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Heh. Lost it at sunder the bowstring.

You know that thread?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

If the bowstring isn't considered part of the bow, it shouldn't matter whether Haley has a spare if they all make it out. Elan has Mending.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Yes but will the vampires KNOW that Elan has mending?

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Durkula would know that. Elan used mending when they were in Azure city fighting the linear guild.

Although that's something I haven't thought of. If you mind control someone, you don't necessarily know their full list of abilities.

Reminds me of Jessica Jones when

SPOILER:
Kilgrave takes over Luke Cage. He only later finds out Luke Cage was bulletproof and super strong by accident. If he used a different expression then he'd assume Luke Cage was a normal dude.

OOOO free massages and pizza I want to join the dominated side!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

You do know he's lying right? Also I think Roy needs to find a way to fix this quicker.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I just love the random greatsword to the head. nothing quite breaks your train of thought like a undead bane returning great sword to the head.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

That doesn't help no, Vid. But it's still not going to go Roy's way if he doesn't get some of his teammates back on his team.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Let's hope V has something prepared. He's not looking too good, either.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Eh. Of all the members of the group, V is the last I'd worry about. Mostly because V's got an eternity or so of torment for sell off their soul.

The battle is about to turn!

I mean it has to, right?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

We have to first reach the point where there seems to be no hope.

And then Kratos shows up to show them how there is hope and to turn this comic to into an R-rated slaughterfest.

Belkar still has a stake in one hand. Chekov's Gun demands that a vampire gets staked with that...

Ugh, these pauses - they're killin' me, Smalls!

They're killing us all. Softly.

But yeah Set, I think Chekov's Gun applies.

Liberty's Edge

Bird dies, Cat attacks Belkar, Cat dies, Belkar stops being Dominated

1126: Battle Cry

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Okay, if there's ever a time for Hilgya to get a new save, it's right about now.

That or for Loki to pull out some fire tricks.

I am also wondering about these memory thingies.

3 and a half hypno swirls is a pretty good rating. I really need to sign up for this.
