[Rite Publishing] Kaidan! We have a Green Light!

Product Discussion

Scarab Sages

Kaidan has received the green light. The forums will be opening up later this week, allowing me and Michael Tumey a few days to get a few threads up and running.

Thank you to everyone who has purchased a Patronage and I'll be talking to you soon on the Rite Forums!

Congrats! I can't wait to see the finished product.

...and the crowd cheered, "Yay!"

Now who's light green again?

No doubt, me. If anyone is 'green' as far as RPG developers go, that would best describe me. Since Kaidan has been my child for over a year, I'm getting the far less green writers and developers from Rite Publishing to make this Japan-inspired horror setting the best thing it can be.

My greater experience is with cartography and I already have many pieces for the setting. Its taking the home-brew designer in me, and bringing it to a commercial level that is the real challenge.

So, yeah, I'm rather 'light green' as far as things go.

I'm more of a pinkish-light-tan-olive-brown color myself.

At one time, the Kaidan project was to be:

1) Setting - cool
2) Adventure, level 1-20 - *awesome*

Looking at the web page, I do not see what levels the three part adventure will be. Can someone please clarify?

thanks,

ps. While the setting would be worthwhile to purchase, my primary interest is in a level 1-20, or so, adventure.

While Michael has mentioned a desire to do a full adventure path set in Kaidan, that was not the intent with the first three adventures. I We have about 75,000 words to give to a single three part adventure arc, and honestly a full 20 levels in 75,000 words is not likely to happen.

Initially, as concieved by Michael, the adventures were to begin at level 5. However, as this is a Patronage project, our very first item of business will be to allow the Patrons to determine the approximate level the adventures start at. I've already put up a Poll in the Kaidan forums for this very thing and Patrons will be able to vote as soon as the forums are opened.

I would love to do a patronage project involving a full adventure path, but I suspect the cost would be prohibitive to getting enough Patrons. Steve Russell is doing one such path for Arcana Evolved, but he's funding it one adventure at a time.

Thank you for the information.

Congrats on getting this up and running!

Thank you mearrin69. I'm really looking forward to getting into this.

@Papa-DRB: You're welcome. If we can get out a good set of adventures that are well recieved, then there is always the possibility that Michael will be encouraged enough to pursue having the larger adventure path written up.

Sorry, I couldn't meet your expectations. Its the reality of publication, and me being a first time goer at such an endeavor. I didn't realize the cost when I started all this, so doing an introductory adventure had always been a necessary first step to establishing a market, that could drive the further development into a large adventure path. It is still my goal to do that, but we need to see market that really wants it.

Optimism tells me it will succeed, but only experience will show it. Once we release The Gift, mini adventure arc, we'll better know our position in moving forward. I hope we do get to develop it further, I have some ideas of where I want to go with it!

Support our start, and I'll do my best to support you with a larger game down the road.

Michael

Michael,

No need to be sorry, as I am in a different situation then most of the folks on this board. I am retired and on a fixed income, so for my limited gaming budget, I only purchase things that I have an expectation of using. As you can see by my "title", that is the APs.

I would USE an adventure path of levels 1-20 (or so), and would pick up the setting to enhance that use. For me, personally, no 1-20 means that I will not pick up the setting, nor smaller adventure arcs since I won't use them.

I really like the idea behind Kaidan, as Japanese culture, especially the middle age warrior codes interest me, but I won't buy things that I won't use, anymore.

If/When a full length AP is published, count me in as a purchaser. Best of luck!

I hope to eventually have a product for you, Papa DRB.

For all the patrons of Kaidan, the Patronage Forums are now open!

As Michael said, the forums are open so all you Patrons make sure to check in, say high, vote in the poll and get this thing going. Tomorrow I'll be posting setting background and possibly an adventure outline/overview.
