Lantern Lodge ***** Venture-Captain, Australia—Melbourne aka DarkWhite

Hi everyone,

Since my appointment as Venture Captain, Australia, I thought I'd start a fresh thread for Melbourne Pathfinder players to get information about gaming in their area.

Good Games Blackburn
3/66 Railway Rd, Blackburn
brief walk from Blackburn Train Station

Good Games have recently opened a new store in Blackburn and I have been running weekly Pathfinder Society scenarios there each Sunday from 11am.

Games run roughly 5hrs duration. The store opens at 10am, which is a good opportunity for new players to be introduced to the game and get set up with a character, or for current players to level up their character or make other adjustments prior to the start of the game.

As this is a new group of players, we're working our way through early Season 0 scenarios, so this is a great opportunity to catch up on early scenarios you might have missed the first time around, or get into the campaign at the ground level.

I'll post the scenario(s) being scheduled for the following week(s) in this thread, as well as the Good Games Blackburn event page, and the Good Games Blackburn website, as well as the noticeboard within the store. If you'd like to email me (contact details on the event page), I'll also add you to a list to receive weekly email reminders of upcoming events.

Please RSVP for each session by emailing myself (contact details on the event page) or by leaving your name with Justin at the store, so we have some idea how many players to expect, as seats will be limited by the number of GMs prepared to run each session.

Good Games Geelong
Level 1/28 Malop St, Geelong

My good friends at Good Games Geelong have been running weekly Pathfinder Society scenarios on Thursday evenings for some months now. A well-established group catering to a variety of character levels, check them out if you're in the area.

Melbourne is also blessed with a thriving gaming convention scene. Pathfinder Society features at the following Melbourne conventions annually:

Arcanacon 2011 Melbourne
Weekend before Australia Day
Thursday 20th January - Sunday 23rd January, 2011
(note: neither Thursday or Friday are public holidays, so book your work leave now!)

Collingwood College, Hoddle Street, Collingwood
brief walk from the Collingwood Train Station
opposite Collingwood Town Hall

[ Arcanacon 2011 event page | Arcanacon 2011 website ] (Registrations now open!)

Conquest 2011 Melbourne
Easter long weekend
Friday 22nd April to Monday 25th April, 2011

Melbourne High School, South Yarra
brief walk from South Yarra Train Station
or Toorak Road/Chapel Street Trams

[ Conquest 2011 event page | Conquest 2011 website ]

Unicon Melbourne
weekend in October
(2011 details to be announced)

[ Unicon website ]

As always, early online registration to any of these events is strongly encouraged to help us anticipate player numbers so we can prepare GMs to run the sessions required.

If anyone is interested in hosting a Pathfinder group in their local game store or other venue, please contact me and I'll do what I can to help you out.

So as you can see, there are plenty of Pathfinder Society play opportunities across Melbourne over the coming months and throughout the year. Check this thread often for latest news.

Hope to game with you soon!

Cheers,

Hi all,

I'd just like this opportunity to thank everyone I've gamed with in the past year, PaizoConOz in Brisbane, Arcanacon | Conquest | Unicon in Melbourne, my home group who have playtested a bunch of scenarios prior to public release, and anyone who has joined the fun at Good Games Blackburn or Geelong.

I've had many memorable moments, and met many good friends through GMing Pathfinder sessions, and I hope it's been just as rewarding for all of you playing too.

Best wishes to all of you, your friends and families over the holiday break, and I hope we'll meet again for many more adventures in the New Year!

Cheers,

Hi guys,

With Arcanacon fast approaching, there's a fair bit of preparation to be done, including reading, play-testing and printing scenarios. So I regret that I won't be scheduling any Pathfinder sessions at Good Games Blackburn through January.

If anyone else feels they'd like to step forward and GM a Pathfinder session themselves at Good Games Blackburn during January, they're most welcome to do so. Let me know, as I'd be happy to help where possible, and I can send word out on the email list.

Meanwhile, if you're missing your weekly Pathfinder fix, please consider coming along to Arcanacon at Collingwood College, opposite Collingwood Town Hall, Hoddle Street, a short walk from Collingwood train station, on Thursday 20th - Sunday 23rd January. Note that neither Thursday nor Friday are public holidays, so if you need to apply for a leave day from work, please do so now.

Online player registration is open now at AON. While it is possible to turn up on the day and join a game, pre-registration helps us know how many players to prepare scenarios and GMs for, so I'd encourage everyone to pre-register if possible.

Pathfinder should resume each Sunday as per usual at Good Games Blackburn after Arcanacon, and I'll announce sessions as soon as they've been scheduled.

Best wishes for the New Year to all!

Cheers,

Hi everyone,

As many of you may know, Pathfinder Society is running at Arcanacon this (extended) weekend:

Thursday 20th January - Sunday 23rd January, 2001

Collingwood College, Hoddle Street, Collingwood
a brief walk from the Collingwood Train Station
opposite Collingwood Town Hall

As well as the usual range of Pathfinder Society scenarios, Sunday is going to be rather special - The Year of the Shadowlodge is a multi-table special event not to be missed! Requiring three or more tables of Pathfinders all contributing to the same grand adventure, this may be your only opportunity to catch it in Melbourne.

Arcanacon is only days away now, so pre-registration has closed. If you would like to secure your place in The Year of the Shadowlodge special, or any other Pathfinder Society session, it would help us immensely if you could email me directly so we have a clearer idea of expected player numbers - my contact details on the [ Arcanacon event page ].

Check the [ Pathfinder Society page ] at the Arcanacon website for session times, and other relevant information, and I look forward to seeing you for a weekend of adventure!

Hi everyone,

PFS scenario The Mists of Mwangi has been scheduled to play this coming Sunday (13th February 2010) at Good Games Blackburn.

We had a good turn-out last Sunday - seven players! It's possible we may see even more players this coming Sunday. Therefore, while our advertised scenario is oft-quoted player-favourite The Mists of Mwangi, we are preparing for the possibility of running a second table of something else.

Eventually, we hope to run tables at low- and mid-level to suit both new Pathfinder players and current characters as they advance in level.

The game is scheduled to start at 11am, but any new players wanting help getting started with a character, or current players needing to level up between games, there's an hour between the store opening at 10am and start of the session set aside for this purpose.

Please RSVP via email (contact details on the Good Games Blackburn event page) so we can anticipate how many players to expect.

If you'd like to be notified of upcoming sessions via email, please email me directly (contact details on the Good Games Blackburn event page) and I'll add you to the list.

Hope to see you this Sunday! :-)

Andoran

Anyone here know gamers in Queensland that have been affected by the floods and cyclone.

I Have started a blog and want to get gaming material to people who have lost everything in the storms.

If you are aware of anyone who is currently doing it tough and rebuilding please point them here

http://savevsstorm.blogspot.com/

And let them know that while I may not be able to replace everything they have lost I hope that I can at least provide some material so that they can get through the following months when things are going to be tough.

I will also be posting on the Sydney list as there is nothing for Queensland that I can see if anyone knows the Queensland venture captain please let me know

Thanks

Hi Aldoth,

It sounds like a great initiative you have going here. I know watching the events unfold on the news over the previous month, I thought what would I do if my gaming collection was destroyed by flood or fire or tentacled beings from other realms? I'd be devastated! And then my thoughts went out to gamers I'd met in Brisbane and QLD, wondering how they'd fared?

I've been in touch with a few Bris/QLD gamers since the floods, and they all reported to be on dry land, which is good news, but that was also before Tropical Cyclone Yasi came along. There are also many Pathfinder players who don't frequent these boards, and gamers of other systems than Pathfinder. If their home did go under, they may also have lost their computer, or be pre-occupied with the clean-up/recovery. Getting in touch with them may be difficult, other than via friends and word-of-mouth.

There is a thread for [ Pathfinder Brisbane ] and a recent thread where the [ QLD Floods ] were discussed. You might want to post there if trying to identify gamers who have lost books and stuff, as Brisbane/QLD gamers may not have reason to read Melbourne or Sydney messageboard threads.

I'll also email gamers I have on my mailing list, particularly those in Bris/QLD, pointing them to your Save Vs Storm blog for more information.

Fellow Pathfinders, one of our number has fallen. Targos Min-Katheer, esteemed venture-captain, is dead.

His last wishes are simple: he wants his mortal remains to take one last trip along the Silken Way to his home city of Katheer, there to rest with his ancestors. He was one of our finest and we aim to honor his request. It is for this reason I’ve called you all together.

Gather his remains at Lopul, then join the silken caravan, one of the few caravans to trace its journey across the desert from Lopul to Katheer. A few weeks in the sun, seeing the sights of the desert, a dream assignment really, but we insist you give it the attention it deserves.

#03 Murder on the Silken Caravan

This is a good mission for Qadiran or Osirion characters who may feel more at home among the nomadic tribes of the desert than among the crowded streets of Absalom.

Scheduled this Sunday, 27th February, at Good Games Blackburn. Game starts 11am, though new players wanting help getting started with a character, or current players needing to level up between games, there's an hour between the store opening at 10am and start of the session set aside for this purpose.

Please RSVP via email (contact details on the Good Games Blackburn event page) if you'd like to join us on Sunday to give some indication of player numbers, so we might prep another GM to run a second table if required.

If you'd like to be notified of upcoming sessions via email, please email me directly (contact details on the Good Games Blackburn event page) and I'll add you to the list.

Look forward to seeing you there!

When the son of a famous Pathfinder gains control of his father's holdings in Taldor, the Pathfinder Society decides to build a new lodge there as a base to explore the many ruins of that crumbling empire.

Can you survive the tangled web of Taldor's politics and fight off the echoes of the past or will you, too, see your glory decline?

#24 Decline of Glory

Scheduled this Sunday, 6th March, at Good Games Blackburn. Game starts 11am, though new players wanting help getting started with a character, or current players needing to level up between games, there's an hour between the store opening at 10am and start of the session set aside for this purpose.

Please RSVP via email (contact details on the Good Games Blackburn event page) if you'd like to join us on Sunday so another GM might prepare to run a second table if numbers require.

Fellow Pathfinders,

One of the Society's contacts in Andoran sent us some interesting news this morning. A druid named Hemzel swept into Augustana's Civic Library last week, demanding his right of research. Our contact learned that Hemzel acquired a lorestone from somewhere in the Verduran Forest. Heard of such a thing? Heard of druids, at least and their crazy stone circles? Well thank Gorum for that.

Unfortunately, the Society is no friend to Hemzel - this self-declared protector of the Verduran Forest inside Andoran's borders has been a thorn in our side for years, steadfastly resisting the exploration of his beloved forest, he's sworn a blood feud with the Pathfinders who he regards no better than common theives.

However, the Society has some interest in this lorestone - supposedly they can bestow one with the ancient knowledge of the druids, and we'd like to know how. So we're sending you out to fetch one. I imagine it'll require some ... persuasion ... to get the old man to part with the stone, so do what you need to - plant some trees or nurse a dying deer back to health, something nice - let him know we're there to study and not to log or burn his forest.

A nice walk in the woods should be a pleasant change of pace from the bustle of the city - all the incentive you need, really, to take on this mission?

#23 Tide of Morning

Scheduled this Sunday, 13th March, at Good Games Blackburn. Game starts 11am, though new players wanting help getting started with a character, or current players needing to level up between games, there's an hour between the store opening at 10am and start of the session set aside for this purpose.

Fellow Pathfinders,

#51 City of Strangers Part I

Journey to the outcast city of Kaer Maga to investigate disturbing rumours that, if true, may pose a serious threat to the very foundations of the Pathfinder organisation itself!

City of Strangers is a two-part scenario, which foreshadows events unfolding throughout Pathfinder Society Season 2. Having GMed this one a few times now with different groups, it's fast become one of my favourite scenarios, one not to be missed!

Scheduled this Sunday, 27th March, at Good Games Blackburn. Game starts 11am, though new players wanting help getting started with a character, or current players needing to level up between games, there's an hour between the store opening at 10am and start of the session set aside for this purpose.

If you'd like to join us this Sunday (or any weekend) simply RSVP via email (contact details on the Good Games Blackburn event page) so we have some idea of player numbers and can organise a back-up GM to run a second table if required.

Rare indeed do your orders come directly from the Decemvirate, but that is the case on this occasion as you await your next mission. It must be one of extreme importance to the Society.

I've gathered you here because we have a problem. A rather embarrassing one.

Many of you have probably met Vornan Vilk, the old fellow who used to work in the library. What some of you younger folk may not know is that he was the Master of Blades, the man has lived more stories than you or I have even read.

A few months back, he returned to his homeland of Ustalav to write his memoirs for the Society. Something happened along the way. Now, a serial killer stalks the streets of Vilk's hometown of Ardis, killing off all his old enemies ... under the full moon. I think you get the drift?

The thing is, he's still got secrets buried up in that geriatric head of his that the Decemvirate doesn't want spilled on the cobblestones by some superstitious Ardisian's silver axe. Even worse, Ustalav regards the Pathfinder Society as little more than a band of mercenaries and grave robbers. If anyone finds out that as prominent a Pathfinder as Vilk stalks their streets and murders their nobles as the man they're calling the "Midnight Mauler", that might be enough excuse to have the entire Society expelled from Ardis's borders without any debate.

Ideally I want you to stop the murders without killing Vilk. Though if push comes to shove, access to all the history of Ustalav outweighs any one man. Stop Vilk Whatever it takes. Our man in Ardis will meet you at the docks.

#2-EX: The Midnight Mauler

The Midnight Mauler is an exclusive adventure to be run only by 4-Star GMs and Venture-Captains for it's first year.

Scheduled this Sunday, 8th May, at Good Games Blackburn.

Fellow Pathfinders,

Having sunk a few feet below sea-level during an earthquake ten years ago, Absalom's Puddles District is now knee-deep in brackish salt water, with waves that ripple through both shops and homesteads - anyone with enough coin to move out of the district after the quake did so long ago, the Puddles is now home to thugs, petty criminals, and the destitute.

But trudging through the wet misery of the Puddles is where you find yourself now, searching for a code book that could be the city's only defence against the mist-shrouded undead that now reportedly stalk the streets.

#1: Silent Tide - Pathfinder Society's very first scenario, still a favourite and a great introduction for new players. With treasure chests, ancient lanterns, street thugs with snarling dog tattoos, and your first run-in with the infamous Grand Master Torch, this scenario has several fun elements, that make this a most memorable adventure.

Scheduled this Sunday, 22nd May, at Good Games Blackburn.

Intrepid Pathfinders,

Due to increasing numbers, two tables last weekend, and quite likely welcoming a new player or two this weekend, we're preparing two scenarios for you to choose between this weekend:

1) Those that missed The Dalsine Affair last weekend will have their chance to play this weekend; and
2) Anyone who hasn't yet visited the infamous Blakros Museum will have the opportunity enjoy their fine collection in Voice in the Void this weekend.

--

Pathfinder Scenario #2-21 The Dalsine Affair - Sunday 3rd July

You are woken in the middle of the night and summoned to the Grand Lodge. It is abuzz with rumours of something monumental happening in Oppara, and though details are vague, it is deemed the Society needs a team of agents on the ground should something transpire. Thus you find yourselves hurried aboard a swift boat ride across the Inner Sea in the dead of night, headed straight for Taldor's gilded capital.

Pathfinder Scenario #35 Voice in the Void - Sunday 3rd July

I've called you together because I'm told some of you may be familiar with Absalom's Blackros Museum, having been involved in some previous incident there. Well, I'm pleased to inform that no foul mists plague that fine establishment on this occasion. However, this morning Nigel, Curator of the Museum, you remember the fellow, came rushing to my office in a most panicked state. All fussed about one of theBlackros daughters having returned home from an expedition and retired to the basement to do some research. Well, she hasn't emerged for a few days, which isn't all that unusual when engrossed in research I'm told, but when Nigel sent a watchman down with a plate and drink, he didn't emerge either. Nigel hasn't been down there himself, he's rather jittery after the last incident, and claims he heard noises wafting up from the basement. I suspect such noises are probably those of an amourous couple reunited after a long departure, and that sending you down will be rather an embarrassment to all concerned. However, Nigel insists, and so I do ask that you accompany him back to the Museum to check things out so we can set his mind at ease.

--

Game starts 11am at Good Games Blackburn, though new players wanting help getting started with a character, or current players needing to level up between games, there's an hour between the store opening at 10am and start of the session set aside for this purpose.

If you'd like to join us this Sunday (or any weekend) simply RSVP via email (contact details on the Good Games Blackburn event page) so we have a more accurate estimate of player numbers.

If you'd like to be notified of upcoming sessions via email, please email me directly (contact details on the Good Games Blackburn event page) and I'll add you to the list.

Note: as we now have players with characters of varied levels, if you have more than one character, please bring them all, so you're prepared regardless of which Tier the scenario is being run at.

Look forward to seeing you there!

Cheers,

Hi Stephen,

I'm curious about continuity - do you have a stock of continuing characters adventuring in these weekend events or is it a different character every week?

Would it be possible to start one campaign with a character, then progress to the next session with the same character without auto-levelling or auto-equipping them? One of my favourite parts of RPGs is the progression, rather than 'warping' to the right level for the adventure.

Is there ever longer adventure paths undertaken or the possibility of completing one adventure, then waiting for another level-appropriate adventure to come along where I can retain exp and treasure gained?

Thanks for getting these organised in Australia!

Lantern Lodge ***** Venture-Captain, Australia—Melbourne aka DarkWhite

Hi KestlerGunner,

There are several ways to get involved in Pathfinder:

1) Pathfinder Modules are great for short adventures that can be played over a couple of weekends. There are even a few free PDF Modules you can download and check out for yourself, though we've also had tables of We Be Goblins! played at Good Games Blackburn and Geelong these last two weeks.

2) Pathfinder Adventure Paths are much longer campaigns that may span months of real-time play. These probably the best-written adventures in the industry, but are best suited to home games with a consistent group of players.

3) Pathfinder Society is a world-wide organised play campaign. Your character is a member of an organisation of historians, treasure-hunters and adventurers - the Pathfinder Society - who send teams on short missions. Each scenario is a self-contained adventure and can be played in around five hours. Due to the short nature of these adventures, they're well suited for retail store game days, game conventions, and home play.

XP is simplified - all characters begin at first level and gain a level for every three (or six, your choice) adventures played.

Treasure is gained, but assumed to be sold at market value for GP, each character receiving an equal share. Found treasure is then listed on a Chronicle sheet received at the end of each session, and you may buy back those items at any later point in your career. Anything you buy should be tracked on your Chronicle sheets, and are retained by your character from one session to the next, unless it is later sold, consumed, lost, stolen, broken etc.

Due to the individual nature of the missons, scenarios can be played in any order - players can join in some weeks, skip other weeks, and not suffer continuity lapses. Though there are series and meta-plots which you'll start to recognise once you've played through a few of these scenarios.

Note: there are no "level bumps" like there have been in some D&D Living Campaigns - though one exception is that you may temporarily create a higher/lower version of your current Pathfinder Society character in order to play a higher/lower level Pathfinder Module, but this is a special case.

Pathfinder Society is great for players who don't have a regular Pathfinder home group, or maybe someone new to Pathfinder who just wants to try it out. But some of us have characters who have been playing the campaign for three years now, so if you're looking for a long-term campaign that will stay the distance, then Pathfinder Society is also a good choice.

I'm assuming you're local to Melbourne. If so, we have weekly Pathfinder sessions at Good Games Blackburn and Good Games Geelong. You'll find links to location/times/contact information to these and other events at the top of this forum thread. I email short blurbs/intros of scenarios we'll be running at Good Games Blackburn to players each week, similar to the series of messages above. Email me directly if you'd like to be included on this list, or would like to attend our next session, or need advice creating a character for organised play.

Most of the players at Good Games Blackburn are in the 1st- through 5th-level range, and regular players create secondary characters when their primary character starts gaining levels, so they can always join a low-level adventure with new players. In fact two new players emailed me last night enquiring about Sunday Pathfinder at Blackburn, so if you joined us this weekend, there's a good chance your character can advance at the same rate as these other new players.

4) A fourth style of play is of course a home-brew campaign. Pathfinder RPG Core Rules and it's many supplments are broad enough to support any style of fantasy campaign. Many third-party publishers support Pathfinder and your old 3.5 edition D&D books are still very useful in a home-brew Pathfinder campaign (though won't be legal for organised play events).

Hope this helps, and maybe we'll see you at one of our games soon?

Cheers,

You stroll into a small chamber, various trophies gather from across the face of Golarion hang from the walls. Glancing around the table, you note fellow Pathfinders already seated, apparently called here for the same purpose. Taking your seat, Adril Hestram marches into the room, looks at each of you, and nots curtly.

"Welcome, friends. We have a serious problem. Skelg the Ripper came to Absalom one month ago. Like many Ulfen warriors, he joined the Longaxes, the Taldan Emperor's personal guard whose duty it is to protect the embassy and Taldan visitors. Skelg also dropped a hefty sum of gold to purchase a manor in the Ivy district, something a Longaxe isn't paid well enough to do. It is widely assumed that he brought most of his wealth with him from the north - a rumour I know to be true.

"It seems that Skelg also brought a curse with him. In his letter to me, he speaks of lying abed in this miserable summer dying from the cold. Neither physician nor priest has been able to cure his ailment, and there are no signs of disease or poison. Of course, for such a man, there is no greater dishonour than to die in bed instead of in battle.

"Normally, the Pathfinder Society would monitor these events and let the authorities deal with them. However there are factors that have drawn our interest. First, Skelg is himself a member of our Society and personal friend of mine - he has asked for our help. Second, he claims that artifacts of great power are involved, and that we may be able to recover them for the vaults of our Grand Lodge.

"We view this situation as having enough importance to assign you to investigate. Go to the home of Skelg the Ripper, learn what you can, and do your best to help him. If you find an item that is somehow connected to the curse, either retrieve it or glean as much information as you can about it.

"I trust there are no further questions?"

Attention all Pathfinders:

Pathfinder Society @ Good Games Blackburn - Sunday 14th August, 2011

Table 1 - Godsmouth Heresy

The long awaited continuation of our Godsmouth Heresy game!

Table 2 - Citadel of Flame

Once the home to a cult preaching self-sacrifice by immolation in order to achieve paradise, the Citadel of Flame in Qadira's Meraz Desert was presumably wiped out decades ago after Sarenrae dervishes led a crusade to end its morbid message. An enormous sandstorm swallowed both the citadel and the army attacking it, burying both beneath hundreds of feet of sand. Thought lost forever, the citadel's rediscovery prompts the Pathfinder Society to send you deep in the unforgiving Meraz to finally close the book on Qadira's most mysterious cult.

This is a low level adventure appropriate for character levels 1-5.

If you'd like to join us this Sunday (or any weekend) simply RSVP via email (contact details on the Good Games Blackburn event page) so we have a more accurate estimate of player numbers.

Fellow Pathfinders,

Another mission this Sunday 21st August at Good Games Blackburn

Pathfinder Society Scenario #49: Among the Dead

Several years ago, a Taldan Zyphus cult took over a famous Oppara opera house, murdered a Pathfinder, and turned dozens of Taldor's wealthiest citizens into the walking dead. The Pathfinder Society has finally tracked down their hideout and sends you to Oppara for one purpose: revenge. Can you face the servants of Golarion's god of accidents unharmed or will you find yourself among Zyphus's cursed souls?

Among the Dead is a follow-up scenario to Pathfinder Society Scenario #7: Among the Living. When played together, the scenarios create a mini story arc in Taldor's gilded capital, Oppara.

Written by Joshua J. Frost

If you would like to join us for an afternoon of adventure this Sunday, please RSVP by email - you'll find my contact details on the last page of the latest version Guide to Pathfinder Society Organised Play, or on the Good Games Blackburn event page. New players are always welcome.

Game starts 11am, though the store opens at 10am so please arrive in plenty of time to get settled, make any adjustments to your character (leveling up, purchasing goods, selecting spells), or chat with other players.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Fellow Pathfinders,

The Blakros Museum has been plagued by one misfortune after another. In fact, there have been no fewer than three(!) Pathfinder missions sent in to rescue staff in recent times - Mists of Mwangi, Voice in the Void, The Penumbral Accords, with a fourth due for release later this year. Really, they should have condemned the building by now!

The Blakros Museum series makes a fun start to any character's adventuring career, and as we're expecting a few new faces to join our group at Blackburn this Sunday, it would be a great opportunity to come along if you're a new player, or bring a friend if you're a regular.

We'll be prepared to run a second table if attendance is sufficient, and may run two of the three Blakros Museum scenarios, so if you've already played one, you'll be able to play the other.

As always, please be arrived and be ready to start the game at 11am, and please RSVP by emailing myself - you'll find my contact details on the last page of the latest version Guide to Pathfinder Society Organised Play, or on the Good Games Blackburn event page, or notify Justin at the store, to give us some idea how many to prepare for.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions. Pre-generated characters will be available ready to play for anyone without a prepared character.

Looking for a chance to check out the Beginner Box and celebrate the biggest Pathfinder RPG release since the Core Rulebook? Then you’ll want to head to your local game store for the Beginner Box Bash! The day’s events include four new, one-hour quests highlighting the Beginner Box characters and rules.

The Beginner Box should start appearing on Australian store shelves next week. In the meantime, both Good Games Geelong and Blackburn have graciously offered Beginner Box Bash! players 10% off the retail price of the Beginner Box if they pre-order on the day.

The Beginner Box Bash! is also being held in Brisbane and Sydney stores, so please check the participating stores list for dates and locations.

It should be a great event. I hope to see you there!

Hi everyone,

Sorry it's been left until rather late in the week to confirm Pathfinder scenarios running at Good Games Blackburn this Sunday, but after a run of conventions, gamedays and special events, I think it's all caught up with me, as I've been feeling under the weather all week.

I'm pleased to advise that Andrei has kindly offered to GM The Pallid Plague at Good Games Blackburn this Sunday, and I thought I'd take this opportunity to announce a run of Pathfinder gamedays planned for the next few weeks, including a Beginners Box Bash! at the State Library of Victoria for those who might have missed it last weekend.

Sunday 6th November, 2011 - 11am start
Good Games Blackburn
3/66-70 Railway Rd
Blackburn, VIC 3130
Scenario: The Pallid Plague
Tiers: 1-2, 3-4 and 6-7

Saturday 12th November, 2011 - 10:30am start
National Gaming Day @ Your Library
Experimedia Room, State Library of Victoria
cnr LaTrobe and Swanston Streets, Melbourne
The Beginners Box Bash!
Characters provided

The Beginners Box Bash! is a series of four x one-hour encounters to demo the new Pathfinder Beginner Box, ideal for introducing young players or anyone new to Pathfinder. Pathfinder will be just one of many games held at the State Library of Victoria as part of (inter-) National Gaming Day @ Your Library. It should be a great event!

Sunday 13th November, 2011 - 11am start
Good Games Blackburn
3/66-70 Railway Rd
Blackburn, VIC 3130
Scenario: Tide of Twilight
Tiers: 1-2 and 4-5

Sunday 20th November, 2011 - 11am start
Good Games Blackburn
3/66-70 Railway Rd
Blackburn, VIC 3130
Scenario: The Mantis' Prey
Tiers: 7-8 and 10-11

If you have more than one character, please bring them all. As our gamedays regularly attract new players, it's likely that scenarios will run at the lowest available Tier, unless everyone at the table also has a character of a higher level and agree to play that Tier.

Note: this is a proposed schedule, though individual scenarios may change depending on player and GM availability.

IMPORTANT: Good Games sessions start at 11am. Please be at the store and ready to play prior to this time. The store opens at 10am.

That's a lot of gaming! I hope to see you there :-)

Will PFS be offered at Arcanacon in 2012? According to the current website, the only 'living' campaign being offered is LFR...

Hi Luke,

PFS will most certainly be offered at Aracanacon in 2012, however with a string of recent conventions and gamedays, I've had little time to get details of our sessions to the event organisers. I hope to get this done this weekend. We're planning to run the Blood Under Absalom multi-table special on Sunday of the Convention.

Fellow Pathfinders,

Thanks to everyone who played at Good Games Blackburn last Sunday. With two tables, we're able to offer a little more flexibility each week, such as a low-tier table for new players, and a higher-tier table for regulars. Also, while there are many past scenarios people haven't played, everyone has played different scenarios, making it difficult to schedule something everyone can play. So two tables give players a choice of scenarios and a chance to pick up missions they missed the first time around. So please keep coming :-)

This coming Sunday, we'll continue with First Steps Intro Part 2 (OR the Beginner Box Bash!) for new players or anyone who missed them the first time around. Secondly, RyanG will GM To Scale the Dragon for character levels 5+.

Sunday 27th November, 2011
Good Games Blackburn
3/66-70 Railway Road, Blackburn
(just a brief walk from Blackburn train station)

First Steps Intro Part 2 - To Delve the Dungeon Deep - Tier 1
You venture for the first time into the massive haunted dungeons beneath an abandoned siege tower in the deadly Cairnlands, where you will experience firsthand the true dangers of being a tomb-delving Pathfinder. Recommended for new players - First Steps series require a fresh never-before played 1st-level character.

Beginner Box Bash!
A series of four one-hour demos featuring the easy to learn Pathfinder Beginner Box.
These demos pack a surprising amount of fun into each one hour encounter!
Play all four demos, and receive a reward for your Pathfinder Society character.
Also makes a great Christmas gift for young players, or friends you'd like to introduce to the game we all love.

To Scale the Dragon - Tier 5-9
The last remains of a sage from an age long past rests high atop the snow-covered tips of the Fog Peaks in Southern Galt and the Society wants his bones in order to study them and learn from them. They've sent you into a wintry wilderness of primordial beastmen and snow creatures not seen below the snow line to do just that. With the Aspis Consortium also seeking the bones, the race is on to beat them to the top and, once the bones are recovered, to make it back down alive.

As always, the store opens at 10am. The game begins at 11am sharp and plays unti 5pm (sometimes 6pm) with a break for lunch.

If you'd like to join us, please RSVP by emailing me to give us an indication of player numbers at each table.

The Beginner Box Bash! has proven extremely popular, so we thought we'd run it again, this time at Dungeon of Magic on Saturday 3rd December for anyone who may have missed it previously.

The Beginner Box Bash! is a series of four short demos, one hour each, to introduce new players to the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game.

Drop in and give the game a go - no experience required, characters are ready to play, it couldn't be easier. So why not bring a friend!

If you play all four demos, you'll be awarded a special boon. Should you wish to continue your adventures at one of the many games conventions or other events at which Pathfinder is played in Melbourne year-round, you may apply this boon to your ongoing Pathfinder Society character. Players who have already played one or two, this is your opportunity to complete all four before the boons offer closes in a couple of weeks.

Pathfinder Beginner Box makes a great Christmas gift for young players, or an easy way to introduce new players to the hobby we all love, or to get involved yourself!

You're welcome to drop in on the day, but it would help us estimate player numbers if you could [email me] or leave your name at the store, just in case we need to run an extra table.

Beginner Box Bash!
Date: Saturday 3rd December
Time: 10am to 5pm
Location: [Dungeon of Magic] - Basement, Royal Arcade, 331-335 Bourke Street, Melbourne

And if you enjoyed your Beginner Box intro to Pathfinder, why not follow it up with regular Sunday Pathfinder sessions at Good Games Blackburn?

First Steps Intro Part 3 - A Vision of Betrayal
Date: Sunday 4th December
Time: 11am to 6pm
Location: [Good Games Blackburn] - 3/66-70 Railway Rd, Blackburn

Dispatched on an envoy mission overland from Absalom to port city Escadar, you must weather the harsh wilderness of the Isle of Kortos before you can hope to meet with the representative of the elusive gillmen, and only then come face to face with the greatest threat to the Pathfinder Society - for 1st level characters.

Fellow Pathfinders,

#3-02 Sewer Dragons of Absalom
Okay, I've said this about a few scenarios now, but this one has become one of my favourites!
Absalom is Golarion’s busiest and most populous city, but one of its largest populations goes largely unnoticed. You must venture into the sewers beneath the City at the Center of the World to stop the meddling dragons within from disrupting a vital Pathfinder Society operation.

IMPORTANT:
Sewer Dragons is a Tier 3-4, 6-7 scenario. We can provide a tier 1-2 scenario run at a second table if enough players indicate they're looking for a game (We Be Goblins! and Frostfur Captives were being considered), but you will need to confirm your attendance by emailing VL Ryan or myself your character level first.

When: Sunday 5th February

Fellow Pathfinders,

This Sunday, we take you back to the mission that started it all ...

#0-01 Silent Tide - Tiers 1-2, 4-5
When strange reports of misty undead spread through Absalom, you and your fellow Pathfinders are dispatched to the half-drowned district of Puddles. Notoriously rough, the petty thieves and other low-lives of the Puddles are the least of your worries. The night's tide brings with it an ancient armada of some long-forgotten war and you are the only thing between their mist-shrouded ghost fleet and Absalom's utter oblivion.

Fur and Feathers!

This Sunday, two townships require your help!

#2-EX The Midnight Mauler - Tiers 1-2, 3-4, 6-7
Someone or something is stalking the decaying city of Ardis, indiscriminantly killing it's citizens.
What you encounter will lead to exploration, diplomacy, murder, haunted pasts, and tragic love.
Can you stop the Midnight Mauler before it claims it's next victim?

#3-13 The Quest for Perfection - Part III: Defenders of Nesting Swallow - Tiers 1-2, 4-5
After weeks journeying across TianXia to claim the Braid of a Thousand Masters, finally you reach the small village of Nesting Swallow where you hope to find perhaps the Master's last surviving descendant. But what you find is a village under seige, and desperately in need of your help. But how can a team of four or five traveling Pathfinders hope to make a difference? Do you have what it takes to defend the village of Nesting Swallow?

Fellow Pathfinders,

This Sunday, there are two adventures requiring your help:

#1-47: The Darkest Vengeance (Levels 1-5)
When a newly opened Ustalav Pathfinder Lodge goes silent, it's up to you to investigate and report back to the Society as to the source of the disappearance. The mystery deepens when you arrive and find the house silent but infiltrated by an old threat now in control of one of Ustalav's most powerful artifacts.

#3-11: The Quest for Perfection - Part II: On Hostile Waters (Levels 1-5)
There is some demand for this scenario, as some of you have already played Quest for Perfection Parts I and III, wanting to complete this three-part series prior to preparing for the upcoming Ruby Phoenix Tournament. For others, this may be your first journey into the unfamiliar lands of TianXia. Either way, this series centers around finding, and re-activating an ancient and long-dormant Iroran relic, the Braid of a Hundred Masters. Whether dangers take the form of goblinoid menaces on the shores of Kaoling to the north or the powerful armies of Lingshen to the south, your journey will be anything but uneventful until you safely reach your destination.

Fellow Pathfinders,

Last week, we didn't get to run Darkest Vengeance, as everyone was on a mission in distant TianXia. However, after a week there's still been no return word from the Pathfinder Lodge in Ustalav, so your help will be required to investigate!

Meanwhile, we will be welcoming some new players to our game on Sunday. Ryan will give a quick tutorial (10am to 11am) and offer pre-gen characters to new players before the game starts.

If you're one of the few players who has already played Darkest Vengeance, please let me know, so we can arrange a scenario you haven't played at the second table - note: this will be an intro scenario suitable for new players (eg, First Steps Part I, Quest for Perfection Part I, Silent Tide) so you may need to bring a new 1st level character.

When: Sunday 4th March
store opens 10am for new players
game starts 11am and plays until 5pm (give or take an hour)

Where: Good Games Blackburn
3/66 Railway Rd
Blackburn VIC 3130
Phone: 9877 3836

The much anticipated Ruby Phoenix Tournament will begin the FOLLOWING weekend - Saturday through Monday 10th-12th March. Details, including guidelines for temporarily advancing your character up to 11th level to play this sanctioned module, will follow shortly.

Anyone who hasn't already done so, please RSVP to Ryan or myself via email if you would like to join us on Sunday.

Conquest 2012
Easter long weekend
Friday 6th through Monday 9th April, 2012
Melbourne High School, just a brief walk from South Yarra train station

Further details: Conquest website

Fellow Pathfinders,

Join us for four days of adventure at Conquest held over the Easter long weekend!

Each Pathfinder Society game plays for 5 hours duration, and therefore requires two standard Conquest sessions to play, please refer to the timetable below for Pathfinder session times:

Friday 6th April 2012
Session 1 r-a: 9:00am to 3:30pm (lunch-break 12noon-12:30pm)
Session 2 b-c: 4:00pm to 10:30pm (dinner-break 7pm-7:30pm)

Saturday 7th April 2012
Session 3 d-e: 9:00am to 3:30pm (lunch-break 12noon-12:30pm)
Session 4 f-g: 4:00pm to 10:30pm (dinner-break 7pm-7:30pm)

Sunday 8th April 2012
Session 5 h-i: 9:00am to 3:30pm (lunch-break 12noon-12:30pm)
Session 6 j-k: 4:00pm to 10:30pm (dinner-break 7pm-7:30pm)

Monday 9th April 2012
Session 7 l-m: 9:00am to 3:30pm (lunch-break 12noon-12:30pm)

Although players may arrive and sign up on the day (registration session "r" 9:00am to 12noon), we do encourage players to pre-register before the event, as this helps us anticipate player numbers and provide GMs to run the required tables.

As a bonus incentive, players who pre-register before the event may arrive by 9am and play through the registration session "r". We thank Conquest organisers for allowing this, as we can now run two scenarios on Friday.

Scenarios will be chosen on the day, but will include intro scenarios for new players, new releases and popular favourites, so there should be something for everyone!

You may join the Pathfinder Society without any prior game experience by playing one of seven pre-generated characters - Kyra human cleric, Valeros human fighter, Merisiel elven rogue, Ezren human wizard, Lirianne half-elven gunslinger, Reiko human ninja, or Hayato human samurai.

Alternatively, if you’re already familiar with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, you can create your own first-level character and bring it with you to the game. If building your own character, you will need to refer to either the Pathfinder RPG Beginner Box or Pathfinder RPG Core Rules and the Guide to Pathfinder Society Organised Play which describes the point-buy system, starting hit points, factions and traits, and other rules important to building a character for a world-wide shared campaign.

Most Pathfinder sourcebooks contain options you may use for your character, including new classes, archetypes, feats, traits, equipment, spells etc. If using a rule from a source outside the Core Rulebook, you must have a legal copy of that book with you at the table for the GM to refer to, and it must be listed as allowed on the Additional Resources page, otherwise your character won't be permitted to use that class, feat, spell etc during play.

Useful links/resources:

If you've already been playing Pathfinder Society at previous events and have a higher-level character (make sure to bring along your Chronicle Sheets!), every opportunity will be made to group higher level characters together at one table. However, due to player numbers and character levels, it won't always be possible to play a scenario at your preferred character level, so players should be prepared to play a back-up, lower level character, if a higher level table is unavailable for your session.

You may continue your character's daring adventures at Pathfinder Society gamedays held every week at Good Games Blackburn and Geelong stores.

If you have any questions about character options or Pathfinder Society events, please don't hesitate to contact me or join the discussions on the Pathfinder Society messageboards.

Hope to see you at Conquest!

Cheers,

Fellow Pathfinders,

We welcome three new players this weekend, joining several recent newcomers to our Blackburn PFS group, so it's fitting to offer a run of low-tier scenarios this Sunday including one from the First Steps Intro series, and a second chance to catch ones you might have missed at Conquest last weekend - The God's Market Gamble and the Cyphermage Dilemma.

PFS Intro 3 - First Steps: A Vision of Betrayal (Level 1)

Dispatched on an envoy mission overland from Absalom to port city Escadar, you must weather the harsh wilderness of the Isle of Kortos before you can hope to meet with the representative of the elusive gillmen, and only then come face to face with the greatest threat to the Pathfinder Society.

#3-18 The God's Market Gamble (Levels 1-5)

Valuable relics of religious natures have been disappearing on their way into Absalom and the Pathfinder Society stands to lose countless irreplaceable artifacts if the cause isn't found. Amid the bustling markets of the God's Market in the shadow of the Starstone Cathedral, the Society sets a plan in motion to ensure the parties responsible for the recent thefts are caught and brought to justice.

#3-EX The Cyphermage Dilemma (Levels 1-5)

In the shadow of the cyclopean Cyphergate that spans Riddleport's harbor, the PCs find themselves embroiled in a dangerous plot of deception that one could only find in Varisia's infamous pirate port.

"The Cyphermage Dilemma" is an exclusive adventure to be run only by 4- or 5-star Pathfinder Society GMs, Venture-Captain and Venture-Lieutenant campaign volunteers, and Paizo staff for its first year.

Grand Lodge ****

Just a note – this Sunday, 22nd April will mark the beginning of Pathfinder Society at Good Games Melbourne.
If you’ve been on the boards for a while and have wanted to try PFS out in central Melbourne, please come along to try out a level 1 scenario – most likely we’ll start the beginning of the First Steps trilogy, but if the players are willing, we could also embark upon Frostfur Captives.

This is a great chance to be introduced to PFS play in the city, so even if you're just curious and are not familiar with the rules, we'd love to have you.

All the details to reserve your place are on Warhorn:

Shadows Last Stand - Part I: At Shadow's Door (Tier 1-7)

The Shadow Lodge’s assault on the Pathfinder Society has come to a head in the Andoren city of Almas, where renegade Shadow Pathfinders have taken over the Grand Cathedral of Aroden, holding the Pathfinders and Venture-Captain stationed there hostage. You must gain entry into the overrun Pathfinder lodge and put an end to the open warfare within the Society.

Silent Tide (Tier 1-5) The PFS scenario that started it all!

When strange reports of misty undead spread through Absalom, you and your fellow Pathfinders are dispatched to the half-drowned district of Puddles. Notoriously rough, the Puddles street gangs are the least of your worries. The night's tide brings with it an ancient armada of some long-forgotten war and you are the only thing between their mist-shrouded ghost fleet and Absalom's utter oblivion.

The Immortal Conundrum (Tier 5-9)

When the Pathfinder Society receives an invitation to a dinner party at the Thuvian Embassy, hosted by the guardian of this year's six doses of the infamous sun orchid elixir, the Decemvirate sends a team of Pathfinders to represent them and uncover the nature of the event. Can the PCs navigate the complex social landscape of Absalom's elite and gain access to the mysterious vault known as the Conundrum, or will they face public ridicule or worse in the face of the steepest competition in the Inner Sea?

Hi everyone, I just found out that I'll be in Melbourne for work-related travel from mid-June to mid-July. Naturally, I think it would be a ton of fun to play Pathfinder with people thousands of miles from home! I'll be staying within walking distance of U of Melbourne, so I'm wondering which gaming store(s) are closest? Is the warhorn site the best place to get up-to-date info? Thanks!

Grand Lodge ****

Yes, Warhorn's your best bet.

Dungeon of Magic or Good Games Melbourne may have a game or two going during that period. Otherwise, Good Games Blackburn is always running, and it's a tiny walk from the train line. My advice is to tram it into the city from U of Melb and public transport can get you anywhere.

Hope to see you mid-year!

Hi Muninn,

We'd love to see you for Pathfinder in Melbourne. Warhorn is the best place to see what we're up to and sign up for sessions. While we try to schedule a few weeks in advance, it's dependent on GM availability, so sessions can be added at short notice. Feel free to email VL Ryan or myself directly if you have any questions.

Meanwhile, the adventure continues, this Sunday 13th May (Mother's Day) at Good Games Blackburn!

Murder on the Silken Caravan (Tier 1-5)

Volunteers are needed to escort the body of a deceased venture-captain across the parched Qadiran desert to Katheer. The Silken Caravan offers passage, hauling exotic treasures across the perilous sea of sands. You'll brave bandits, spies, and unwelcome mourners hell-bent on paying respects to your dead companion. Worse still, the caravan's mistress, a satin-swathed Qadiran princess, has designs of her own on you and your cargo.

Shades of Ice Part II (Tier 1-5)

Following the trail of the insidious Shadow Lodge from Trollheim to the icebound city of Whitethrone in the witch-ruled nation of Irrisen, the PCs must locate the hidden lodge of their contact’s kidnapper. Can they get past the city’s defenses, infiltrate the Shadow Lodge headquarters and rescue the Pathfinder Society’s valuable ally, or will they—like so many before them—find their bones ground to make Baba Yaga’s bread?

Games start 11am, and play until 5pm (give or take an hour). New players always welcome. Don't hesitate to email Ryan or myself if you have any questions.

The Hydra's Fang Incident (Tier 1-5)

After an Andoren village is razed by the Hydra's Fang, a renegade Chelish slaver-ship, outrage threatens the stability of both nations. You and your fellow Pathfinders are sent to capture the Fang before the Inner Sea is pitched into political frenzy.

Fortune's Blight (Tier 5-9)

You're sent to the wild River Kingdoms to find and kill a green hag who holds the last fragment of a powerful ancient sword called Passion's Edge, sundered into three pieces a decade ago. Madness, murder, and mayhem await you in the River Kingdoms!
