Kingmaker Cleric

Kingmaker

I'm working up a Cleric of Erastil for a Kingmaker campaign. The focus is on buffing/debuffing with a minor in combat. I'm a veteran 3.5 player, but this is my first experience with Pathfinder. So I had a couple questions:

1. What are good feats to take? I wanted extend spell, but with a lot of the buffing spells being changed from hours/level to minutes/level, it seems less useful than it used to be. Similarly, I'm tempted by Spell Focus (Enchantment), but it seems like there are fewer Enchantment spells than there used to be. I'm leaning towards Selective Channeling and Scribe Scroll right now, but I don't really see myself healing much in combat, and crafting wands in a couple levels is better than crafting scrolls.

2. I'm not sure what the best domain options are, especially with the APG in the mix. I'm leaning heavily towards Growth for my first domain, but I'm not sure what a good second domain would be. Feather maybe?

I appreciate your help!

The swift enlarge from Growth is crazy-good, but only if you DO plan on being combat heavy. I think Feather would be better for Eyes of the Hawk.

Your second choice, hmm, I think that the Family domain ability is quite good. Making your Fighter immune to Entangle? Seems pretty good to me, along with the solid buffing spells that are associated with Community.

Selective Channeling seems like a no-brainer for me, but beyond that I'd hold off and get a feel for the rest of your party before making a decision.

Every cleric will end up taking Selective Channeling and Extra Channel. You might as well take them now. In particular, Extra Channel is most useful in early levels. You may not see your cleric as a healer, but channeling ensures that your cleric can use all the spells he memorized, rather than turn them in for Cure Light Wounds. Extra Channel makes your cleric more notable for what he does, because he gets to do more things.

As far as the rest of the party goes, we have a combat rogue, a bow ranger, a fighter, and an illusionist, IIRC.

I like Growth and Combat Reflexs and long spear
As second domain Community is good.

Selcetive channel and extra channel craft wand are no brainers for cleric.

Is Ranger taking a pet? then Take Animal Domain and Work together on pet build.

If so then Improved Animal pet or Natural Bond what ever that call now ect and Improved Share Spells

If so then think about Animal Domain for a pet. Then Have them Both take teamwork feats Presise Strike and out Flank, Coordinated Maneuvers,
Rending Claws, Improved Natural Attack Claw.

Two Triping Bobcat(small Cat)or Pouncing tigers (Large Cat) Or (Velociraptor). With Doing 3D6 roughly on Claw twice plus bite with Trip or Rend depending on what pet.

Plus the Rouge and Fighter might want to jump on this train as well
+4 to hit when in a flank +1d6 Damage. Way Better that Weapon Focus and Weapon Specilation for 2 feats.(pluss any one can take it ie not just fighters)

Shoot you and the Ranger(if he is Switch Hit) may jump on as well.

With up to 6 fig with these two feet(Presise Strike and out Flank)
Combat could be real fun.

Talk to other players and build charicters as a Group. For greater syngery.

I would consider getting Animal Domain and Boon Companion feat. All through you won't see much combat yourself, that doesn't mean you shouldn't buff up your animal companion via Share Spells with Divine Power, Righteous Might (Cause you don't get Animal Growth).

Again, if you don't plan on getting into combat yourself, Growth is more or less useless (its not a spell, so Share Spell doesn't work), i would go with Community myself cause you got strong Will and Fort and all of your party members lack in one or both of those saves.

Now for the rest, Selective Channel is a no brainer, so is Extra Channel, for Kingmaker i wouldn't advise getting Heavy Armor Proficiency, but thats just me. You will find soon enough that beyond crafting and channeling feats there ain't much support for a non combat clerics.

Random question: Will this grant you the companion from 1st level? Or just give you the full strength critter @ 4th?

Where is this feat from? I thought I saw it at some point but could never find it again.

Seekers of Secrets

I found it at:

I am currently playing a cleric of Erastil in Kingmaker (middle of book 2).

Selective Channel is great for this module as it runs off chr, and given the community building nature of the AP, chr and chr skills can be a very important secondary stat/skills.

I am shocked no one has mentioned Entangle. While Growth with Enlarge Person is REALLY good, this is set mostly outdoors where Entangle (even with the nerfing PF gave it) is VERY useful. I personally just took the Plant domain and have used Entangle to good effect all the time.
