Due to the intense popularity of the CLEAVES dungeon development Threads I have decided to start this small project. Basically it is 100 cards detailing the Villagers of a Small Village. The real name of the Village we can look at later. Perhaps Shinglewell? Perhaps not.

100 Villagers of Shinglewell

1. Kurdok the Farmer: S12, D7, C14, I9, W10, Ch17; HP5; Chaotic (Neutral); Lives in a timber shanty in a field just outside the cluster of Dwellings that make up the Village. He is a disagreeable cuss who farms coca leaf (which he dries and sells to a merchant who uses it to make a rather addictive tobacco). He doesnt care about the rest of the Villagers unless their herds are in his crops. Nor does he have any living relatives amongst the Villagers.

3. Petula the Penny Pockets Woman. S 8, D 12, C 10, I 15, W 14, Ch 15. Petula is a middle-aged woman moving on to old with grey hair in a neat bun and a fanciful patched dress with brightly colored pocked all over the overskirt. For a penny she lets customers (typically children at fairs) choose a pocket and take the prize inside, anything from small trinkets or toys to little cakes and sweetmeats she bakes herself (sometimes with other small prizes or fortunes hidden inside them). Rumor has it that she's a witch and enchants some of these items, some with blessings, other with curses. Other stories are that as she's always on the lookout for new trinkets and treats to use as prizes for her business, she inevitably picks up some bit of lost magic by accident. She of course denies all that, and also that her pet crow, Horace, is anything but a pet.

4. Hatter. S 10, D 12, C10, I 12, W 6, Ch 6. 7 Mad as a hatter they say of him. He quite lost his mind before he got the Periapt of Proof Against Poison he wears. He is always jabbering nonsense or doing something odd like trying to fix a watch with butter. His shop, In This Size, is the only place you can get a hat that can be enchanted to become a hat of disguise, or enough mercury to make a mercurial broadsword.

Dekland the Satyr.

Str 14, Dex 15, Con 15, Int 12, Wis 14, Cha 16. Rogue 3.
Talkative and helpful, Dekland is always around when something is happening. His pipes cause Hideous Laughter. Dekland plays his pipes often, but only invokes the spell on them for special occaisions. Dekland will hop and skip around people during important situations.

Dekland always talks in the first person, so every sentence starts with 'Dekland thinks', 'Dekland would like to know', 'Dekland says'

For a high powered game, give him a Cauldron of Flying which he potters around with.

5. Samuel Weaver the Weaver: Male human; S9, D13, C11, I17, W13, CH13; AL NE; hp 37; A self-imposed outsider, Samuel is valued for his skills and fine wares in spite of his secretive nature and mysterious past. Many strangers are seen coming and going from his small cottage on the edge of town, day and night, with many by-passing the village altogether. Samuel is believed to be an amateur herbalist who spends at least one day a week away from his ancient cottage to pick fungi and herbs in the nearby woods. Old Waylan, the village ne'er-do-well, claims that he often smells strange aromas coming from the weaver's cottage. However, no one else has dared approach the fiercely private weaver's dark cottage at night.

15. Torlan Gray S10, D10, C10, I10, W10, CH10; Human? Commoner2 N: A completely un-remarkable individual, you wouldn't realized you'd bumped into him until 5 seconds after you had. In reality, he is cursed with his completely forgetable life and can't get anyone to remember him long enough to help him break his curse.

16. Sphen DeVelarion S16, D16, C16, I8, W12, CH10 Half-Orc Ranger9 LN: An avid hunter of the undead, Sphen was whisked away here every bit by accident when fighting a Lich a counter-spell went awry. 16a. Steve the Monkey S18, D18, C16, I2, W10, C8 Ape HD50 N: Sphen's animal companion, Steve follows him around with the complete loyalty of a faithful hound. Standing 7 feet tall, the most peculiar thing about Steve was an unfortanate mixing of spells which has permenately turned him purple.

After a terrible incident that left him physically and emotionally crippled, August retired from city life with a sizeable fortune. 23. Grozna. Str: 10, Dex: 12, Con: 8, Int: 16, Wis: 18, Cha: 12... maybe. N. A highly eccentric old man, Grozna has tended the graveyard and provided burial services for as long as anyone cares to remember. Living in his shop, with a seemingly permanent mocking grin and strange eating habits, most are of the opinion dealing with death for so long has addled his mind (or maybe he's senile). Nevertheless, he shows no signs of frailty and always knows far too much; he has the unsettling habit of reading people's thoughts. He is an excellent source of information, though he refuses to be paid in coin. He has a marked aversion to royalty. Some suspect that he is a retired adventurer. He has a deep scar running across his face and down his neck.

27. Sheriff Harlon Sureblade: Male half-elf; S15, D15, C12, I12, W14, CH 14; AL LG; hp 67; Born and raised in Shinglewell, Harlon never knew his mother, who left to resume her adventuring career sometime after his first birthday. Cared for by his late father, Harlon grew up with a love for nature and the wilderness on the edge of the village. For many years he left the family farm to find adventure and to satisfy the wanderlust he inherited from his estranged mother. When word reached him about the death of his father, Harlon returned and put his martial skills to good use as a deputy. Now a decade on, he has recently been promoted by the town elders to the office of sheriff and has done a fairly decent job keeping peace in the town. Harlon is fast friends with Augustus Crowe and can often be found chatting with Grozna outside his store.

27a. Deputy Tobias Westbrook: Male human; S13, D13, C13, I15, W12, CH15; AL LN; hp 41; Toby is a thin, wiry man who prefers books to violence and takes comfort in routine and ritual. A childhood friend of Harlon, Toby agreed to become a deputy to keep the books and represent the sheriff when he is busy on official matters. Charismatic, with a odd but loveable sense of humour, Toby is also keenly intelligent and often underestimated because of his ungainly appearance.

27b. Deputy Jolin Sureblade: Male human; S17, D12, C15, I10, W10, CH14; AL LN; hp 29; Adopted by Harlon almost seven years ago Jolin has become a fine young man, if a bit hot-tempered. He takes his duties seriously and is popular with the motherly-types in town who are always stuffing him with baked goods. Jolin has a crush on Imogen, the town beauty, and he suffers terribly knowing that Tomas Silverhand is more than capable of beating him physically (and has done so on several occasions over the years), and that she refuses to take him seriously.

He runs the local mercantile Galen's Greengrocers and is constantly attempting to buy up land and loan others money.(sees it as a way to gain power, if they owe him, he owns them) Not from around Shinglewell, he has still managed to gain a measure of respect here. currently trying to get himself elected Mayor ( regardless of the fact that the town is run by the elders) and is slowely gaining support.

Martha Brown's Sons and Daughters

Her Sons:

31. Ketric Brown: S12, C13, D14, I11, W10, Ch5; HP 5; Alignment- Lawful Good; greenplague scars him from feet to face. Despite that he struggles to be outgoing though he sees the horror of his scars reflected in a few of the villager's eyes.

The Twin boys -
32. Hursly Brown: S8, C9, D9, I12, W7, Ch 16; HP4; Alignment- Chaotic (Neutral; strong psychic link with twin

33. Gingly Brown: S9, C9, D10, I12, W7, Ch 16; HP4; Alignment- Chaotic (Neutral); As Twins with a psychic link - They share a common personality that is mischevious.

34. Ghanis Brown : S18, C14, D10, I14, W13, Ch 11; HP6; Alignment-Neutral; The Eldest child, Ghanis is interested in Thokk (the half-orc). Ghanis spends a lot of time watching for him. Not realy sure why, but thinks the fellow is wasting his time as an 'Enforcer' and that they both should be 'out there' as brother-swordsmen fighting it out with dragons.

Her Daughters:

35. Ani Brown: S8, C12, D10, I13, W10, Ch8; HP 3; Alignment Chaotic (Good); The 14 year old is a quiet personality. She is starting to put on weight (actually she is pregnant and has no intention of revealing the name of the 'father of the child' who raped her). Her mother hasnt noticed despite being a Midwife of experience - she hasnt been paying attention to her Daughter who seems to spend alot of time stuffing her face in the Kitchen.

36. Hatti Brown: S9, C10, D18, I12, W10, Ch11; HP 4; Alignment - Lawful (Neutral); She is Tomboyish - often having a Loud Opinion. She has been developing an ability to throw rocks and pebble with deadly accuracy. Often stunning Crows picking in the Garden.

37. Kimya Brown: S12, C10, D10, I19, W19, Ch8; HP2; Alignment Lawful (Good); Kimya is something incredible. Her mind is able to comprehend things far beyond even the greatest Philosophers. The eight year old listens in on conversations of the villagers analyzing every scrap of information for Data on the World at large. She knows that her Sister is Pregnant and who the Father is through deductive reasoning (though she is keeping it a secret-with her own plan to destroy the villain)- she can tell you what was going on in the village every day for the last year and a half and provide a personal experience blog of pretty much every day of her own life beyond that - back to the beginning when she recalls sitting in something wet (could have been mud). She is currently pestering Sarloff for everything he knows - while he can remember it.

38. Petti Brown: S7, C6, D9, I8, W8, Ch12; HP1; Alignment-Neutral Good; Simple, struggles with reading and Writing constantly and helps her mother as an 'Assistant'.

39. Seralla Sureshot, Human Ranger 8: S12, D18, C12, I10, W13, Ch 12; HP47; Neutral Good; Human with a touch of celectial heritage that shows up in the form of shining gold irises. Known for being an amazing shot with a longbow, but she secretly carries a wierd curse that she picked up adventuring. Whenever she shoots her bow, she always hits something(IE if she misses her intended target, the shot will curve, ricochet, etc, and hit some random creature nearby). This curse is what led her to retire from adventuring after a few too many friendly fire episodes. The villagers are often trying to get her to join in the archery competitions at the yearly festivals, but the thought of shooting a bow with that many innocent bystanders around gives her cold sweats. When pressed to fight, she uses a sword even though she is obviously not very good with one.

40. Allister Noble the Magistrate : Male Human Aristocrat 6. S10, D10, C10, I12, W12, CH 15; AL LN; hp 30; The leader of a nearby kingdom or empire was afraid of him staging a coup, so he was ordered to take charge here. This is a village so he isn’t even a Mayor. Running this place is a distraction to him plotting his return to power. He is always delegating things to the town elders, putting bribes into his war chest, and keeping his clients out of jail.

She also keeps more hares at her house in a series of hutches where they breed like, well, rabbits, and so consequently has them for sale, both as pets and meat or for use as familiars. There are stories that she's a retired adventurer with a great store of gold and jewels. There are also stories that she's a witch and the last thieves to break into her house were Baleful Polymorphed into hares and added to her hutch. These stories are in fact all true.

It's a planned community for retired adventurers.

47. Morris the Realtor. Male Human Expert. S 11, D 13, C 14, I 18, W 15, Cha 18. AL: N. HP: 15. A gregarious and clever man, Morris realized that the richest people were adventurers and there was profit to be made by selling them ordinary items for inflated prices. Few things are more expensive than real estate and harder to steal, so he found a small town with room for extra housing and hired men to build picturesque structures such as cottages appropriate for witches, quaint little farms, cozy towers perfect for a solitary wizard and apprentice and so forth. A few bards were hired to spread songs about this perfect tranquil village and soon enough adventurers began showing up, buying their storybook homes for whatever outlandish prices he made up.

Of course the village has started to become more "weird" than "quaint," but Morris doesn't much care. He's making money hand over fist, and once business gets bad, he'll move to another village and start over. But for right now, business is booming and more villagers are arriving every day.

NPC levels such as aristocrat don't count.

Besides, Village of the Damned. Either characters don't want to be here or they are part of the torment. We need something like Rover or the Knots to keep people here. :)

49. Miss Kitty S25, D15, C16, Int10, Wis11, Cha12 7D8+19 (60) N. She owns the full moon hotel. She is also a madam and her ‘girls’ go to the tavern to pick up johns. (She is a Natural Were-tiger and she usually only takes clients from out of town. Some come with the intention of being infected. All her kids are natural Were-Tigers. Anyone who can’t pay for her or her girl’s services will find out what v*re means.)
50. Scarlet Harper S12, D15, C10,I7,W17,Ch13 HP67 CE. (She’s a Harpy with a Mask of Humanity. She can’t use her talons unless she takes off her mask, but she can use her song). She wears a dizzying amount of perfume.
51. Delilia Cutter S18, D16, C14,I13,W12,Ch17 HP28 CE. (She’s a Lamia, has a mask of humanity, is a talented barber, and likes to corrupt Paladins.) Everyone thinks this haughty strumpet is bi because she seems obsessed with Bast. She knows where there are tombs and crypts adventurers can violate.
