Please post to confirm and get your dot.
Discuss party tactics, resources, backgrounds, relationships, etc. Most importantly, finish your character sheets. The game will begin Saturday morning-ish.
Since I assume all of you have had a chance to look at the Legacy of Fire player's guide, I would like to see everyone brainstorm how your party ends up on that camel ride out into the desert together.
Please feel free to ask any questions you like.
Joana |
Hey, Tanner, Nuveril checking in. I'll get her upgraded to a 25-point-buy pretty quick. I'm thinking she heard about the expedition to Kelmarane via a merchant caravan that came by to trade with her tribe. Knowing that she will never be accepted on equal footing as a warrior by her peers without accomplishing something extraordinary and chafing at the way she is treated as a child or a clown, she seized the opportunity to strike out on her own to find the man Garavel offering her a chance to slaughter some gnolls and make her name glorious.
Finding gnolls in the party .... well, she's not going to like that at all. Her first instinct would have been to attack; upon being told that they're traveling companions, she would argue furiously that they aren't to be trusted and will no doubt turn upon the party once out in the desert and lead them into an ambush by slavers. If Garavel won't listen to reason, she turns sulky and rude, keeping a constant distrustful eye on the gnolls. Of course, she's no picnic to deal with for her human companions, either. :)
Nuveril |
Okay, numbers are updated now, I think. (Thank goodness for HeroLab for us math-challenged gamer-types.) I gave her 2 alternate racial abilities, Low Blow & Underfoot, from the APG. I'm considering the Superstitious barbarian archetype; as it doesn't "kick in" until 3rd level, can I have a while to think about it?
She is using the madu as a spiked light shield until she can take the EWP. Also, I gave her Kelish instead of Halfling as a starting language, as she was raised by humans.
Grall |
Grall, the Gnoll slave Barbarian, with a thing for Haleen checking in!
Thanks for the opportunity! I will finish him up tomorrow and have him ready to start, this should be fun and interesting party, such a varied group!
If my background is okay, Grall is here because of his owner Al'Versa giving him to Garavel for the search for Haleen. He is used to being a slave and will usually only speak up when asked or if he needs to i order to protect the mission, Garavel, or the ones he trusts.
As he grows into the possibility of freedom he will probably assert his personality more. He believes in Sarenrae and redemption, you see a simple holy wooden symbol to her worship around his neck, a rare sight on a Gnoll.
Need to check the Barbarian APG stuff to see if I am interested in any of it.
Khalid Al Ha'zareen |
Khalid would certainly be wary of the gnolls in the party at first, but perhap less so of Grall, and may even go as far as to mentor/help guide the gnoll's redemption, since Grall openly wears a symbol of Sarenrae.
As for why Khalid is part of the caravan heading to Kelmarane, he is loyal soldier to both the church of Sarenrae and the Qadiran faction of Pathfinders, both who have reason to want to see Kelmarane thrive again. I could very easily be tied to Linah and her mission to re-establish the temple, or I could just as easily be on a more direct mission from the Pactmasters (via the Qadiran pathfinders) to clear the way for trade once again.
Grim-Eyes |
Grim-Eyes wishes she had something more noble and purposeful in journeying with the caravan. She was merely hired as a wilderness survival expert. Thus far on the trip, her main task has been to conjure water for the travelers.
She is a freed slave raised by a hermit, hence her druidic worship rather than venerating She-Is-Fiercer (otherwise known as Lamashtu).
Linah Jamil'Kaid |
Linah is pretty much finished now. I've choosen "Birthmarked" (eventhough she recived her mark when she purged the disease from her village) and "Missionary" as my two traits (although as i'm using herolab and don't know how to add my own traits "Missionary" might disappear once in a while when i update my character).
A question about the birthmark trait. One of the benefits of the traits is "This birthmark can serve you as a divine focus for casting spells". Can i also use it as my holy symbol for channeling positive energy? I won't do it if it has any mechanical benefits, i just thought it would be a neat flavour thing for the character.
Linah hasn't had any real experiences with gnolls (except for the raiding parties that posed a small threat to her childhood village, but then again there was human raiders as well) so most of her knowledge of them stems from rumours and hearsay. But she will initially be abit puzzled that the caravan contains gnolls. She'll accept it quickly and see the logic in having a Grim-Eyes as a guide and feel abit sorry for Grall when she finds out he's a slave. So no gnoll-human tention from my side :)
And it makes sense that Linah and Khalid know eachother beforehand (unless you pick the pathfinder angle). Question is: same monestary or "free agent" sent from elsewhere to aid in the re-establishment of the temple?
EDIT: Please check if i have made any mistakes. Since i use Herolab i hope there are none, but you can never be sure.

The only thing I saw was:
LINAH JAMIL'KAID CR 1/2
Male Human Cleric 1
NG Medium Humanoid (Human)
And you have described Linah as female.
Side note: Since Linah has the sun domain, I'm likely to switch out Disrupt Undead for something different.
Patrik Ström |
Patrik, as Missionary is a Legacy of Fire campaign trait, it ought to be available to you in HeroLab. Just check the box for Legacy of Fire in the Hero Settings configuration box; then you won't have to add it by hand. It's under Pathfinder Adventure Paths.
Found it! Thanks for the tip.
Linah Jamil'Kaid |
Talomyr/Khalid: Is your character tasked with rebuilding the temple by the faith of Sarenrae or the Qadiran Pathfinders? I just want to establish if Linah and Khalid know eachother before they joined the caravan or if this is their first meeting before i go on to post.

Let's say his primary task is to re-establish the temple.

If you don't see the option your version of Maptools is too old.

Tanner,
Looks like you have quite a few options for Grim-Eyes's replacement.
Many of the applicants are players I have had the good fortune to be with in other games, and are reliable players.
DanE (Sabeen, Witch) - Just recently joined AK's Serpent's Skull game and has been quite regular.
Alexander Kilcoyne (Sajan, Monk) - We all know how reliable AK is. I believe you are in both of his games, plus have him in you RHoD game, so anything I would say would just be repeating what you already know.
Nik Beattie (Aurichalcum, Pseudodragon) - I'm in a game Deevor is running with him. He is one of the more frequent posters in that game.
Wulfson - (Nasir, Sorcerer) - Seems like he's been trying to get into a LoF game forever, I'm one of ProfPotts's games with him, and again is a frequent poster.
The only one I saw in the list that I would not recommend is Dathom. He was in my Council of Thieves game and then disappeared without warning. Looking at his various profiles, it seems like he shows up for a couple of months a year, then disappears.
You have a hard choice on your hands, one I do not envy.
DM Tanner |
Once you both post and I have a chance to double-check your profiles (something that the other players are welcome to assist with) I will introduce you both as being mercenaries attached to another caravan company that joins the main party already at the Sultan's Claw.
DanE - I'm going to have to ask you to find a new picture for Sabeen. I have a picture of Almah permalinked in my profile, so unless you have an interesting story about twins separated at birth, it is going to bother me. Sorry for the inconvenience!
Khalid Al Ha'zareen |
Alex/Sajan,
You describe Sajan as a giant of a man, but in your description you say that he is 6'2" and 185 lbs. (188 cm, 83.9 kg)...just doesn't seem to match the description of a giant.
Just a comment, and clarification of conversion of measuring systems, and not meant as a disparaging remark.

I think I will have to amend his height, 6"2 is not what I have on Herolab... Must have crossed over from the copy paste I used for my character template.
I think 6"5 sounds about right. Hes not incredibly tall, hes just big all around. Physically, I wanted him to look like Auchs from Kingmaker.

Then may I suggest, 6'5" and 255 lbs, that puts him a bit bigger than I have Karthas (6'4" 245 lbs.) in Max's KM game.

Sounds good. Consider it done...
Sabeen |
Looking now for a new pic (no inconvenience) and I'll post an introduction.
Character sheet tweaked and equipment/spells done.
Before I finalise hexes Tanner are you ok with them as per RAW (as a GM I really dislike slumber).
No problem with the superstition Joana, Sabeen isn't quite right in the head (superhuman int, poor charisma and her link with forces than mankind was never meant to know) so you will have some objective basis.

What's to dislike, pray tell? I have played a Witch that used a Slumber hex, but I'm not aware of any grief that it may give a GM.
DM Tanner |
Its the spammable save-or-die that doesn't take HD into account that worries a lot of GMs. I have to say, with bad tactics on the bad guys part its an extremely powerful ability.
(Sleep=Death usually).
I think its ok personally, but I can see why some people would think its OP.
cough, cough... Staglord... cough, cough
DanE, I'm fine if you want to use Slumber.
