Help with Dwarf fighter build

Advice

Just looking for a few ideas about a dwarf fighter, wielding a dwarven waraxe.

Based on 20 point buy, here are the stats I've initially chosen.

STR 17 (13 pts)
DEX 12 (2 pts)
CON 15 (3 pts, +2 racial)
INT 11 (1 pt)
WIS 13 (1 pt, +2 racial)
CHA 8 (0 pts, -2 racial)

Any problems with this array? I'm envisioning a dwarf who isn't afraid to walk right up to something big and try to smack the <stuff> out of it.

Any suggestions or advice will be greatly appreciated.

First thing you need to think about. Is to reduce the disadvantage of odd stats. This will alow you to focus your bouns points on Str. My personly opion is that a Dwarf should have a min starting Con of 16. It only cost 5 points and well worth the envestment.

Str 17 (13 Pts) +1 at 4,8,12
Dex 12 (2 Pts)
Con 16 (5 Pts)
Int 10 (0 Pts)
Wis 12 (0 Pts)
Cha 8 (0 Pts)
using Dwarven Axe only

Str 17 (13 Pts) +1 at 4,8,12
Dex 16 (10 Pts)
Con 16 (5 Pts)
Int 10 (0 Pts)
Wis 9 (-4 Pts)
Cha 5 (-4 Pts)
Using Dwarven Axe and Sheild

Str 15 (7 Pts) +1 at 4,8,12
Dex 16 (10 Pts)
Con 16 (5 Pts)
Int 10 (0 Pts)
Wis 12 (0 Pts)
Cha 6 (-2 Pts)
Using Dwarven Axe and Shield

There should be some good sword and board builds on the pages here. You've got a weapon that can be used 2h or 1H depending on what your needs of the moment are for AC, but with a SAB build, SHield Mastery really takes you up at level 12.

I've been toying with the following build:

Ranger, not fighter:

STR 17 (13) DEX 12 (2) CON 14+2 (5) INT 10 WIS 10+2 CHA 8

The key here is that the Ranger gets (at 2nd level) Two Weapon Fighting without needing gobs of Dexterity.

Feats:

1st: Weapon Focus [Dwarven War Axe]
2nd; Two Weapon Fighting
3rd: Double Slice
4th: +1 STR
5th: Two Weapon Defense
6th: Improved Two Weapon Fighting

By 6th level, your attack chain looks like this:

+8/+8/+3/+3. Against ACs at this level (22-25) even a minor set of magic items or party buffs turns you into a threshing machine.

+6 (BAB) +4 (STR) +1 (WF) +1 (Masterwork Weapons), -4 (Using two extra large weapons). A party member casting Haste on you, or Bull's Strength significantly boosts your effectiveness as it gets you past the "Misses all the time" threshold.

The reason I recommend Ranger over fighter is threefold:

1) Two weapon fighting with crummy DEX
2) One of the fighter's better special abilities doesn't apply to you (Armor Training)
3) Skill points and Perception as a class skill.

I like it! Definitely something to consider...you bring up some good points.

I like your dwarf ranger build a lot AdAstraGames. But wouldn't the double slice feat require a dex of 15? I'm a new pathfinder player and want to try this build in my groups new campaign.

If you are going dwarf fighter wielding a waraxe, I suggest picking an archetype that trades out armor training, as most of the benefits are not that useful for a dwarf. (You already have full movement in armor and your dex is unlikely to be high enough to matter so the only bonus is the reduction in armor penalties.) I'd pick Weapon Master, as you get weapon training 2 levels early.

Sample build:
str 16, dex 12, con 16 (14+2), int 10, wis 16 (14+2), cha 6 (8-2)

Feats at 1st level: Steel Soul, Weapon Focus (dwarven waraxe).
Traits: Observant, Defender of the society.

You can use a shield when you need the defense, or two hand it when you want to be more aggressive. (Early on, I'd suggest using the shield, as the +2 AC is more valuable than +1 damage when using two hands.) You are also going to be highly resistant to magic, a big plus for a fighter.

For favored class bonus, I'd choose the +1 skill point.
