I just found out about this app (got an iPad) from the Pathfinder OGC site and downloaded it last night for our game... Fan-effing-tastic! I love it! My only issue is I am flying blind. I figuring out the functionalities by trial and error. I can't seem to find any tutorials anywhere on the interwebs! If someone could point me in the direction of a video tutorial, or a document of some kind that tells me how to do everything this amazing tool can do, I would be appreciative.

There are many dup monsters? Hmm. I knew we would be back at the spells problem, but I thought monsters was better.

There was a duplicate data cleanup, but I had to roll some of it back because it caused other problems. I'm working on the problem.

Sorry Kyle, I meant to say MANY duplicate spells. There aren't many duplicate monsters at all. A quick scan through the list only turns up duplicates for Werebear, Wereboar, Wererat, Weretiger, and Werewolf.

Look forward to the new download when I get a few minutes!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Does anyone know how to permanently delete the cmpt files. I can overwrite them, but can't delete them. Also, when you click on the "add condition" sub menu, how do you delete the spell quick tabs?

Thank you in advance,

Strange Doc

Edit: I am using the app on an iPad.

Swipe to bring up the delete button.

My database has two entries for each Lycanthrope, one for the hybrid form and one for human form

to tell the difference there is a field in the DB call AlternateNameForm because, yes the Name field for both will say "werewolf"

Thanks so much! This app is a savior. You have made my life soooooo much easier.

The new 1.4.5 version is out with some great upgrades. The link on the site still says 1.4.4, but it does download the new version.

Thanks again for making this such a necessary tool of all my games!

I updated and then every time I tried to open a Hero Lab portfolio file Combat Manager crashed. I rolled back to 1.4.4 for the time being. Hopefully it's something small. I'm running Windows 7.

Regardless, thanks for the update Kyle.

For right now, try uninstalling and reinstalling the app. You will not lose your data. I've had one person have success with that. I had to make changes to the zip dll (don't ask why), and I think there's a problem with the installer and the new dll.

If you can also any error<number>.txt files under C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Combat Manager to combatman@kyleolson.com that would be nifty.

That did the trick. Do you still want the error files sent to you?

MendedWall12 wrote:

Yeah, if you don't mind. I don't know if there's anything useful, but I would like to see.

Could you please tell me how to copy the .cmx file to the ipad? I've been adding a ton of monsters on the PC and would like them to be on my ipad. The traditional copy method through itunes does not seem to be working. Thanks.

I am hoping it is just me with this problem Kyle, but I am getting duplicate spell entries again. If I have just the core sources selected it is fine. If I select Pathfinder Chronicles, Ultimate Magic, Ultimate Combat or Other, all spells from those sources are showing up twice in the spells list.

I tried an unistall/reinstall and that didn't help.

I also noticed that when I make a new monster the spells are not being picked up for mouseover like the entries from the default monsters. Any chance I'm doing something wrong?

I'll get to it soon, I hope. This is just a problem with my version of the data. I've got the right data, but I can't stuff it back in yet without breaking some other features.

Ah so you're the one who made this! Well done sir. One of my players found this and has been using it for her one-shot, liked it a lot, pointed it my way. Thank you much =)

Hey Kyle i know this wont be for a while but what are the chances of a Android based app?

Kyle,

Even if you sound like a raccoon with Tourettes caught in a blender, I would have no problem listening to your tutorial! Pleeeeese!

On a more serious note. For some reason, every time I enter skills and then add, or change base stats, the numbers are off. It's not really consistent in the discrepancies, but usually the numbers are high.

Any ideas?

Can I get a better idea what you are entering and what you are expecting?

I'm at work now so I don't have my pad with me, but I'll explain my steps.

Normally because the base stats modify so many things in the app, I wait til the end of inputting the PCs sheet info to put in their STR, DEX, etc. Most everything adjusts correctly, except the skill numbers. Most all of them are off. The most common error is a +1 on a lot of skills, but sometimes it is as much as +4. It is always high however, not low.

Am I entering the stats wrong? Should I put them in first, or should it not matter?

If you want, I can try more and write down concrete examples (skills, numbers and specifics). Let me know.

Thanks again for a great app and the responsive help!

What's happening, if I read this correctly, is that you enter the stats after entering the skills. What happens is that changing the stats automatically causes the skills to adjust by the modifier of the new stat (from a modifier of +0 for 10). If you enter the stats first you should generally get the skills correct.

I hate to say this Kyle but I am still getting the duplicate spell entries after this upgrade.

The Exchange

Well, dang.

I still can't import a Hero Lab .por file

I was able to do so with 1.4.4, but not 1.4.5 or 1.4.6

Windows 8 on a Lenovo Yoga

I will try to send the .por and the error log to you tomorrow.

Cutter wrote:

Are you seeing a large number or just a few? I was supposed to cleanup any spell that had duplicate name and source. I think you'll see some duplicate spells (Ablative Sphere, for example), but not a large number. There's another level of cleanup I need to do on this old file, and I also need to get more new spells in.

I just ran a upgrade from 1.4.5 to 1.4.6 on this Win 8 system and that's what I'm seeing, so I'm fairly confident the right file made it into the build.

So, before I pushed the msi out I made sure the dll worked with an upgrade from 1.4.4 to 1.4.5 to 1.4.6. Now I'm testing just going from 1.4.5 to 1.4.6 and the dll file I need is missing. This VS Installer is killing me. A clean install won't fix this one. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I've got another solution I'm going to try, but it will take me a little time to set up.

Kyle,

Sorry, I really did not word that well.

What I did was enter all ranks and modifiers NOT including the stats, so that when I entered the stats, I expected to get the final adjusted number. For example, Acrobatics; 6 ranks, +5 for "boots of elvenkind", +3 for class skill, and -2 for armor check penalty = +12 modifier without DEX. Now, I go and add the DEX, which is 16 for a +3 modifier. As I look at it, it correctly adjusts to +15 total. That's fine. However, when I save the character and try to open it back up, the Acrobatics shows +16 to +19! I can't really find a consistent error, but it happens a lot.

It's not a terrible problem, because once I correct it on the skills tab, it saves fine.

Thanks again for responding and also for making this AWESOME app!

Yeah it is just a few, Ablative Sphere and Abstemiousness are the only two in the "A"'s for example.

I've scrubbed these now too and fixed up some other stuff, so in the next build (when loading stuff actually works again) I'll have an even cleaner spell list.

Next, I can get back to adding the remainder of the spell in chopswil's data that I do not have in Combat Manager.

You are correct, sir. Unfortunately my fix for the Zip DLL problem only worked if you installed it just the right way.

For now, you can try this (slightly) experimental build:
http://combatmanager.com/CMInstallerTest.msi

If you use this. please uninstall it before trying to install the next build.

I'll have a final build out soonish. It might even be this build.

You probably already know this Kyle, but the HeroLabs import is also broken in 1.4.6.

This test build seems to resolve the problem though.

Excellent thought it was just me making a cock of it. You ever thought of doing a Wiki for CM? It can be quite hard to search for info in this thread. I only found out about PCGen by accident.

Also what info should be copied across to CM from PCGen?

Cheeripops!

I uninstalled and installed 1.4.6 and tried importing from Hero Lab and when I do, Combat Manager stops responding and I have to end the task. I know you mentioned you were working on a solution, just thought I would let you know I was having the issue as well.

Hey Kyle,

when have you last updated the NPC database? It seems the NPCs from the NPC codex are missing. It would be awesome to have them in there! :)

Combat Manager update to 1.4.7:

Yay, that was rather quick, thanks! :)

Thanks much for this update Kyle. This piece of software has proved itself absolutely invaluable to me. I cannot imagine how I ran a smooth campaign without it, and I know I would never try to run another campaign without it again.

I also wanted to remind the community that Kyle does all of this work for free, though he does accept free-will donations. If you are a routine user of this product, have found it to be as invaluable as I have, and can spare the money from your paypal account, please take some time to show your appreciation by clicking that little donate button.

Kyle,
After all the problems with loading HL files, I hate to say it, but when I started up HL a minute ago it prompted me to update to version 4.1b, which according to the notes has a new save format. Have you seen this? I haven't updated HL yet just in case I can't import into CM.

BTW, is there anything a non-programmer like me can do to assist you? Besides donations that is :)

Learn to program! ;)

Seriously, getting bug reports sooner and getting the files associated with those bugs is extremely helpful.

Oooooohhhhh.... Pretty!

If we ever get a working android version (and maybe some easy way to sync data between several versions) this might be a reason for me to buy a tablet :)

Just a quick note as I just imported a new HeroLab NPC and found some bugs (some of them have been around for a while I think):

  • That NPC has the Half-Fiend template and CM didn't show its DR and resistences!
  • Space and reach are added to the attacks section instead to the actual space and reach fields.
  • The Spell-Like abilities ar not formatted correctly.
  • The "Other Gear" bart should be formatted (i.e. having "Other Gear" appear bold)
  • The attacks don't seem to be right and should be reformatted.
  • I miss the ability descriptions. CM should display them either on the bottom or as links within the SQ/Special attacks sections (like with spells and feats).

I have no idea which of those things can actually be fixed within CM and which are attributed to the file format, but maybe you can at least reformat some stuff? Would be awesome!

Anyway, most of those notes are just that and would be ok if left out, but the defensive stuff should be fixed I think.

Oh yeah, also CM doesn't seem to get foreign characters in imported files, in this case the germen umlaut ä.

Here's a link to te HeroLab file: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1586852/Die%20Hauterin.por

Edit
I almost forgot: the CR of imported creature are shown as part of the name in CM!
