And I would really like to see a OSX version :)

So, Combat Manager completely stopped working for me. I click the .exe and... absolutely nothing. It doesn't seem to even be attempting to open. I downloaded and reinstalled it and it still does nothing. I'm running windows 8.1 btw.

Edit: So I can run it in windows 8 compatibility mode, but I have never had to before. It used to run fine in 8.1

Hey, does combat manager run on windows 8 and windows 10? I rely on it heavily and want to make sure before I upgrade.

Thanks

Having the same problem on two machines:

Surface Pro 3 running Win 8.1
CyberPower Gaming Laptop Running Win7 SP1

The problem started a couple weeks ago, and I have a sneaking suspicion it's Microsoft's fault with one of their dumbass updates that did it since the last software update for this was released back in April.

I have Win10 RTM and I have no issues with Combat Manager (and this is on an old Vista laptop that has been upgraded through the years)

So, could some please help me find the file that contains the custom monsters I have made using combat manager? I want to move to a new computer and I need to transfer that file.

Thanks,

Nick

If you click the "Combat Manager" drop down menu in the top left, you should be able to export/import your custom data.

help, every time I go to install Combat Manager I get a DLL error I have windows7 64-bit and the latest .net updates. So what gives?

any ideas? I've tried everything, nothing works except to do a VM and then install it on windows XP. I don't want to go backwards but forwards ;) lol I have to say I am learning alot about programs.

Hi Mark. I was able to install Combat Manager 1.61 on windows 7 64-bit. It would probably help if you could provide the exact DLL error you are seeing.

I'm getting a fairly consistent crash on Windows 7 under very specific, but common conditions. It happens on the Combat tab when I right-click on a monster in the Initiative section to bring up the menu (to apply a condition, for instance). Interestingly, it only happens AFTER I've also been right-clicking monsters in the Monster section. In addition, it seems a monster with a template applied (Advanced, Giant, etc) MUST be present for it to crash.

The weird bit is that I can right-click on monsters, templated or not, allll day in the Initiative section with no problems until I also click on one in the Monsters section. THEN I can still right-click on monsters all day in the *Monsters* section with no problems, but as soon as I start back in the Initiative section it isn't usually more than 3-5 clicks before it crashes. Sometimes it crashes on the very first one.

I've spent a good 20 minutes intentionally crashing the program, and from what I can tell, no combination of clicks will crash it when I right click someone in the party, either in their section or in Initiative. But that might be because no one in the party has a template applied. I'd test more, but I've been avoiding work for long enough

Whew. I hope that was sufficient detail, but let me know if you need more info!

I can confirm this bug in 1.61 on Windows 7 64-bit. It does not exist in 1.60. Here is a set of steps that consistently created the crash for me:

- Open Combat Manager (without previous monsters)
- In the MONSTER FRAME, click the BLANK button to add blank Monster 1
- Click the MONSTERS tab at the top to view the full Monster List. "Caulky" Tarroon will be selected by default
- Click the MONSTER ADVANCER button and click the GIANT check box
- Click the ADD TO COMBAT button
- Click the COMBAT tab at the top to return the the Combat page
- In the MONSTERS frame, click the ACTION button for MONSTER 1, then EDIT > MONSTER EDITOR
- When the MONSTER EDITOR appears, click CANCEL
- In the COMBAT SEQUENCE frame, right click GIANT CAULKY TARROON
- The crash will occur

Will new monster beastiary and NPC/monster codex ever be added to combat manager?

Dark Archive

this might be a stupid question, but how do I delete previusly saved encounters on ipad ?

I like making some potential encounters ahead of time, but now that my players have leveled up some, I dont see myself using the same encounters again. So I now have a long list of encounters im not going to use. That I can't seem to delete..

Grand Lodge

Does anyone know if there's an easy way to add the Mythic template to the monsters in the combat manager? I see some Mythic creatures in there now but I don't see an option to convert a regular monster to a Mythic one.

Liberty's Edge

Hey guys, has anyone created combat manager files for unique/levelled creatures in the Adventure Paths, I am specifically looking for Giantslayer if anyone can help?

Grand Lodge

Good Morning Everybody,

I'm in the process of setting Combat Manager up for my own use...I love the way I can pre-build all the encounters and just load them up at the table.

I haven't actually used this at the table yet, because my big-hang up has been displaying the initiative tracker to the players. To get this working, I've used SplashTop to get a second screen from my laptop to show on my tablet. And while this works really well...the problem is that I can't zoom the 'font any bigger', meaning that even at "maximum font', nobody but me can really see it.

is there a way to make the font (in the windowed player initiative tracker) even larger than the max that the app currently allows?

Scarab Sages

You should be able use the tablet zoom as well to zoom in on any window. On windows this was called Magnifier, but tablets have their own way of zooming.

Grand Lodge

I really like this app, it speeds up combat sooooo much and makes me look more competent than I actually am! lol

All the games I've played in, the GM didn't show initiative so I don't either, keeps everyone on their toes!

Grand Lodge

I'm thinking of buying this on iOS, but I'd like to know if it has a certain feature:

Can I bookmark certain rule/spell/monster/etc pages, for quick reference?

That would be a must have feature for me. :)

Not that I recall but, honestly, I don't think it's really required. Key word search and links to abilities and spells in the monster stats make pulling up more specific information a breeze.

Is there a way to automatically give all the combatants the "flat footed" condition and have it automatically clear after their first action?

Is there a way to mark "Surprised" combatants during the surprise round?

I'm not aware of a way to do either, although both would be nice features, particularly the first one. I always forget about flat-footed!

Hi all,

It's yet supported this project?

It's really interesting but look like the author has stopped to answer and update it.

Bye

Grand Lodge

Greetings, I apologize if I'm belaboring a point already made, but I'm curious as to whether or not this program can run on an iPad 2. It did about a year ago, but since my most recent install it seems prone to crash after a few minutes of use, and then refuses to reopen.

I see from earlier posts that others are having similar issues, but I don't see any resolution yet reached. This has to be my favorite app to use during a game, and I'd really like to see it working again. I'm just not sure if it's the app, or the device that's a problem.

Again, I'm sorry if I'm asking a question already answered, but I'm yet hopeful.

Yeah, it is unusual for there to be no dev posts recently. Hopefully Kyle has not chosen to stop developing this. It is a great program!!!

Hello guys

Some time ago I was looking an android app on google play store to help during rpg sessions, initiative, monsters' hp, dices, sound effects etc and even though there is a dozen of them, I didn't like any of them, so I decided to create my own.

Now, here i found Combat Manager, which is really good, but unfortunately looks like is not being supported anymore.

On mine(Which still lacks a name), even though initially wont be as complete as Combat Manager, I'm aiming for a touch focused interface to be used on smartphones, offering a way to manage the combat and control creatures' HP without breaking the flow of the session.

But while I am on it, I would like to ask which are the main functionalities in your opinion.

For instance, do you guys think that allowing the use of soundtrack and sound effects (once again, without the need to access many menus or windows) are relevant?

Thanks!

I could not find it on here. is there a way to have muible combat tabs ready ? For large number encounters I have to keep making a new list and Im trying to avoid that. Hope that made some kind of sense, thanks all

You mean have multiple sets of monsters ready to go at the click of a button? Yeah. Just put in all the monsters you want, make sure they are adjusted the way they should be, and then click the little "diskette" button on the monster tab. That will save all that monster data in the folder you choose, and you can click on the "folder" button later on to open up all those monsters just as you saved them. If you are talking about having characters and monsters set up and ready to go, the only way to do that is to get them set up and then "save the combat state" which is in the main menu. You can set it up for different heroes and monsters and then save the combat state, then clear it, set it up again, and keep saving the new states. Then you can just open those combat states when you need them. Realize that opening a saved combat state is going to clear whatever data you already have open in the current window though. There is no way to open more than one version of Combat Manager that I know of.

Is the Combat Manager project dead? This is one of the best help programs available, and it would be a shame if Kyle had given up on it.

That's a question I've been pondering a lot lately as well. It's been almost a full calendar year since Kyle posted an update, and I haven't looked but it seems like quite some time since he's popped his avatar in to say "hi." My guess would be, yes, it is dead. Thankfully the last version I have works very well, with very few crashes. Not sure if anyone else out there wants to take up the mantle? I know there is a sourceforge page. Not sure if the full code is available on there or not? Also his email address is listed on the combat manager site... perhaps I'll just shoot him an email and ask what's up?

Edit: Email sent. I'll certainly post something if/when I hear back.

I typically run youtube tab's in background for sounds such as epic battle music, wind/rain/dripping in a cave, etc. It might be easier to include some links vs building that database of sounds into the app.

I use another program (DRunner) for windows, but it only includes PC initiative and HPs for combat tracking. No AC, or attack stats in the stat table for the whole encounter which makes it tough to quickly work out monster attacks. I've just started using 1/2 of a 3x5 card (1.5"x5") folded like a tepee with basic PC statblock on it and order them near the edge of battle mat for tracking initiative and things like PC AC.

I admire you guys that code apps. great skill that makes the rest of our lives easier - thank you.

Just wanted to pop back in and say that it has been over a week, and I've not heard anything from Kyle. It does appear that this project is, in fact, most sorrowfully, dead. Like I said in my previous post, I am very thankful that the latest version I have is very stable and has all the functionality I need. It's a shame that newer monsters and NPCs won't get updated, but these things happen.

Well, that is a crying shame. Best Pathfinder program I ever found. :(

I've only just caught onto this program and it is indeed magical.

I hold out hope that perhaps Kyle might pass the torch onto another enthusiastic programmer to keep it going.

magnuskn wrote:

Yes, me too. The software is working fine for me though, so I'll keep using it as long as the monsters and NPC's are in there.

I don't have the time for manually entering content myself into the program unfortunately, so if our next AP will be one that is not "featured" in Combat Manager I guess I'll have to cut out my (last) kidney and send the money to the Hero Lab guys.

Edit: I've now checked out the "Tactical Console" in Hero Lab and found it, in my view, to be extremely lacking compared to Combat Manager. And what you can do is very fiddly (just one example; to apply damage, you need to open a modal window for that monster only, enter the damage, click OK to close. Four clicks - double the amount compared to the same action in Combat Manager).

And to boot, I find HL quite expensive. I wouldn't mind paying more that I have for Combat Manager (I bought the Android version just to support the developer) if someone picks up the torch. I guess Lone Wolf have been smart in zooming in on the player's needs instead of the DM's though - there's many more players, after all.

FYI, I provided the data that kyle used in the combat manager
I don't know the process he did to get it in there but but if anyone wants it drop me a line

Thank you. I fear I don't see a way to import that data into Combat Manager. I guess the best thing one could do with it to use the Excel tables to make a kind of serial letter in the usual Pathfinder statblock format.

Serious bummer this is dead - I just found it looking for more out of HL Tactical console :(

Shadow Lodge

Chopswil, do you keep track of weapon/armor special qualities?

Dark Archive

sorry but no
i have no DB table for special qualities

Dark Archive

try d20pfsrd, they have a good list

I have gotten the program code working from the sourceforge project, so the code is there. I do not currently have the time to update it but it is possible for someone to pick up where he left off..

Though I normally use the computer when DMing, It does not have the best logistics, mainly when space is a problem.

My idea is to use solely the phone, and on phones using more than one app at a time is unbearable, so it would have to be all included. Not sure if will be able to find good royalty free musics to add though.

So far what I have is Simple Dice Rolling, 6 sound effects, Sountrack(separate from the soudn effects), and heal \ damage, all on the same screen, one touch away.

It also shows on the same screen, name, image, HP/max HP, the 4 defenses, status (poison, dead, etc), current turn for 8-10 characters.

You are welcome, but to need to say thanks haha, we are just selfish bastards wanting to develop something to become rich in the far future :p

Greetings Again, I have been busy with other projects. I still work on Combat manager, however Kyle and I differ on some methods and I have been working only on the version I use personally.
I left the data updates to Kyle but the code for the import is in the project, I believe it is a command line utility, I have never explored it as Kyle did the updates. I will put some time into figuring out the process and see what I can do. My development time is limited so do not expect real quick results.

I will try to post my progress here

Thank you!!!! Just knowing that someone with coding ability is still interested in Combat Manager as a project is good news. I don't know about proprietary things, so not sure if you can just release a "Snapshot version of Combat Manager"? If so, I'm certain everybody that uses it regularly would certainly give it running try.
