'Forever' books, your thoughts?

Marvel's been producing 'Forever' books, taking the ideas of writers of storylines past and advancing them.

X-Men Forever, ongoing with Claremont. Not too keen on it, in part because he killed Logan as a 'shocking' death. I really wanted to see what Logan's background was, now that we have James Howett in 616.

X-Factor Forever, miniseries wrapping up Lousie Simpson's Celestials Arc. gave an interesting alternate background for Sinister and Apocalypse. Self contained, plus it was nice to see Charolette and April again.

New Mutants Forever, Also by Claremont. Continuing his run from NM 56, but updated for 2010 (Cypher searching the internet for example). Jury's still out on this. I think he's a bit 'rusty' writing the gang.

And they've just announced Iron Man Forever. Just curious what others think. X-FF was great, the others, jury is out.

I liked X-Factor Forever. I think it worked because there was a specific story to tell, and when it was done they could move on.
X-Men Forever seems to be stumbling because there isn't a definite end to the story. Although killing Wolverine didn't upset me. He's been overexposed recently. Being on X-Force, the Avengers, every single X-Man team, plus his own comic and regular cameo's everywhere else has turned into glut. Plus they made an evil version of him AND a teenage girl version. It's refreshing to see a book where he isn't going to show up for a change.

I started reading X-Men Forever, as a sort of vent for the fact that I can't really stomach any Marvel books right now. It didn't start off badly, and as much as I like Logan in theory, I really didn't mind him being killed off right away.

If nothing else, it was kind of nice to see that he could be killed.

But I kind of burned out on it fairly quickly. I don't know quite what it is. Some comics stand up to age, and some of them make me feel like I did this weekend when I watched the Transformers (animated) movie with my daughter.

It just wasn't nearly as cool.

I think its more a "me" thing though. I think my tastes have shifted to a more "I don't really care about 'real' comic book characters, give me legends" as I've become more of a DC person, no matter how disappointing THAT has become.
