3) Well... depends on the region, I guess. Pretty much any magical beast or animal is likely to have some predators though.

4) She wants to be a demon lord, and Deskari is the best option available to her to use as a method of gaining that power she needs. If she happened to be imprisoned elsewhere in the world, she might use a different demon, but you go with the demon lord you have, not the one you want. What made her a monster was, pretty much, the abuse that she suffered as an arcane spellcaster in Sarkoris, and then beyond that as a prisoner in Threshold. She was already a bad seed before that, but the treatment of arcane spellcasters by Sarkoris's elite was pretty bad in and of itself. In a way, Sarkoris made Areelu and she gave them exactly the reward the land deserved by opening the worldwound.

5) Of course there are.

1) Okay, how's that coloration different? What colors give the firepelt its name?

4) So if I played a character with the goal of restoring Sarkoris she'd be all "You think I'm a monster? You should have seen what they did to me! It didn't deserve to survive, and I'd sooner die than let you resurrect their cruelty!" Like that?

5) What are the likeliest non-spellcasting classes they'd go for?

BONUS! 6) A monk's ki is what enables their fists to gain properties like overcoming DR/Adamantine and whatnot. Since Brawlers don't have ki, what grants them similar abilities?

5) Whatever their stat mods edge them towards.

6) Practice with fighting.

I have to believe it's intentional, but you'd need to ask that question on the rules forums to be sure. That kind of flexibility is really the brawler's thing... if you want it more than once, take brawler levels.

Hello Mr Jacobs,

I've a question about Ring of Revelation. Can an Oracle use a Revelation from another Mystery through UMD and this ring? In your earlier answer (quoted below) this is not addressed.

James Jacobs wrote:

James,

Over at the PFS section there is some confusion on how the
UMD Skill works in regards to emulating a class. The question was targeted at Ring of Revelation. The argument is can a non-oracle utilize the ring to gain temporary access to a revelation with a sufficient roll of UMD?

Some argue that no, you have to be an Oracle, and if you're not UMD won't help you.

Others say that UMD circumvents those standard preventions.

Use Magic Device will let you trick an item into thinking you're a different class... but it does not grant the POWERS of that class. The way the ring of revelation is worded pretty much means you HAVE to be an Oracle (aka you have to meet minimum level requirements in class abilities granted by the oracle class, since the powers granted directly affect that ability rather than grant you NEW abilities). Furthermore, the ring specifically says that it has no effect if worn by a non-oracle.

SO. Best case scenario, you could Use Magic Device to trick the ring into activating, but if you don't actually have class levels in oracle, the ring will do nothing more than take up a ring slot for you.

Nope.

He also has a write up in Inner Sea Gods. If I was a betting man this Asmodeus article will have more relevant information about his clergy in Cheliax.

1)Where does the Church of Sarenrae get it's money from?

2)Where does the Church of Iomedae get it's money from?

3)Where does the Church of Shelyn get it's money from?

Hi, James.

I was just thumbing through my copy of Seven Days to the Grave looking for an NPC or encounter or two to steal for my homebrew Korvosa campaign. I noticed the art at the start of the Bestiary section (p.78) included a nosferatu killing a man. In the background, a red-haired human woman who's dressed exactly like Imrijka aims a crossbow at the vampire.

Should I assume that's a depiction of another inquisitor of Pharasma? If so, did that artwork influence Imrijka's character design? Or, was the typical garb of the order already established at that point (early 2008)?

Thanks!

Are you aware of the upcoming Lovecraftian film The Dreamlands?

It is being made by the same person that mad the film The Colour. Here is the trailer if you want to have a look. http://www.the-dreamlands.com/

If you have played the game Call of Cthulhu Dark Corners of the Earth, do you think that was Delta Green that was the real organization behind those NPCs that claimed to be from a government agency?

I believe that would be me... I've certainly wanted to put the hodag into the game for a long time, but more as a scholar of cryptozoology and monsters than as a native of the hodag's stomping grounds.

I say "I believe that would be me" because it's tough to keep track at Paizo of who's ideas were what, since a lot of ideas get tossed about, and since a lot of us have very similar tastes (for the hodag, it came from either myself, Wes, Adam, or Erik... but I'm 98% sure it was from me...).

THere's an Aroden article, written by Erik. It is not one of the 2 deity articles; it's format will likely be different.

We already did Asmodeus.

The two deity articles have not, to my knowledge, been revealed for Hell's Rebels.

That depends on the deity, the mortal, the request, and too many more variables to summarize. This is the type of thing that needs to be custom built as an encounter to serve whatever story purpose is desired.

I played Dark Corners, yes. And no, I think that the FBI was the real organization behind those NPCs, since that game is HEAVILY based on "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" and the Chaosium adventure "Escape from Innsmouth." In which the g-men were FBI.

I will give him some due that for probably not being aware of the human oven aspect, but many Nazi views were quite apparent at the time.

I could think of one person that might be suitable to replace him, Ursula K. LeGuin or Ray Bradbury, whose stories are as much, if not more fantasy than sci-fi.

I know quite a lot about Lovecraft's history and opinions and politics, and as such my opinion of him is informed by my knowledge of his opinion of Hitler. And remember... he did not live long enough to see Hitler become notorious for what he did in WWII... and there is already plenty of evidence in Lovecraft's letters to indicate that as he grew older, he was indeed starting to become more moderate in his views and racisim and less of an admirer of Hitler. The holocaust itself was still in the future on the day Lovecraft died, in any event. How the aftermath of WWII and everything else would or could of changed his world views is unknown, and although I could discuss those theoreticals for hours... this isn't the thread to do that.

Put another way... Lovecraft is my favorite author, not my favorite historical figure or my favorite politician or even my favorite person. (Those three positions are currently occupied by Hypatia.)

Us.
What do you mean?
We get the gods we deserve. And I'm not sure we as a race currently deserve any of them.

1. What did we do that was so awful compared to humans elsewhere?

2. Oh, and about what time did the gods leave earth?

3. What relation do gods who're judges of the dead have with Pharasma?

4. When high-level adventurers die, do they become petitioners or are they fast tracked into outsiders of a similar power level? If not, then why?

5. Anyone who shares Arshea’s alignment (neutral good) will likely end up in Nirvana…where petitioners turn into animals. Given Arshea’s interests (freedom, physical beauty, and sexuality) wouldn’t this be awkward?

6. Given how innocent souls ending up in the lower planes is a problem (what with night hags, astradaemons, cacodaemons, succubi, and human sacrifice, and so on), How is Cthulhu supposed to be horrific compared to that? Sure, he scares people to death, causes massive property damage, and likely ends civilizations, but then the victims are on their way to a better place in the Great Beyond.

7. Why’s the wendigo have such a high Int score? Specifically, what’s a jumped-up cannibalism spirit need with all those skills?

8. Why in-setting (we all know the out-of-setting reason) aren't there any male nymphs? Fey Revisited never explained that.

Once again, thanks for taking the time to answer all these questions. Unfortunately, the only reward I have is more questions:

What happens to the soul of a sacrifical victim? What about an animal sacrifice (Is that where we get Celestial animals for Summon Monster spells)?
