1: So does the spell just fail or what? What if someone else casts them on your corpse after you were rezed?
2: Seems logical. I was more wondering about harming EVERYTHING ELSE.
3: Even Flesh Golem Zombies? Also 3 C isn't really all THAT related.
1) The spell never gets cast. You have to have a dead body to cast those spells, and you can't cast the spell if you're dead.
3) Even flesh golems. They're not alive, so they can't be made into zombies. You need a dead body to make it undead, and golems don't become dead bodies when they're destroyed. They don't have negative hit points, for example. Once they're brought to 0 hp, they become busted up objects or piles of objects. You could probably animate the different PARTS left over from a flesh or bone golem... but not as an undead golem.
And Pharasma doesn't mind constructs made from body parts. She's got no problems with flesh golems, bone golems, or fossil golems. Awakened flesh golems are not powered by the soul of a previous part, but a brand new soul—it's like the creation of a new life. ANY god might have issue with that, though.

Are the Mana Wastes an actual desert in terms of rainfall?
Do undead and constructs who enter the mana wastes stay undead (They do in anti-magic fields, but the fluff here seems entirely different)?
The Mana Wastes receive rainfall, but are more like a rocky badland than a desert. There's plantlife there, but not vast forests or sprawling grasslands... mostly because the magic that blasted the place blasted away the soil and plants and stuff.
Constructs and undead are unaffected by the mana wastes. As are magic items. It's only the casting of spells that's really affected (and by extension... spell-like abilities, spell completion, spell trigger items, etc.).
Inner Sea Magic talks a bit more about it.

Is there anymore information on the Court of Ether anywhere? I've seen the darklands entry and the Inner sea world guide stuff. I'm thirsty for a bit more inspiration to fuel my homebrew AP I'm working on.
Beyond what we've mentioned in that book, not really. There MIGHT be a brief mention or two in the Candlestone Caverns entry in Dungeons of Golarion though...

James Jacobs wrote:snipSo is your old "corpse" just like a detached hand and not a "corpse" for the purpose of the spell?
Your corpse is a corpse. You can't cast spells when you're a corpse.
Your severed hand is a severed hand. You can still cast spells with only one hand, and as such you could animate your own severed hand as a crawling hand.
But you can't cast a spell on your own corpse because you're dead and thus can't cast spells.
Someone ELSE can.

Speaking of Pharasma.
I'm looking to play a cleric of Charon, and I'm having a hard time understanding how the Horseman of Death gets along with or competes with Urgathoa's church, and the priests of Pharasma.
I understand that Charon really doesn't like life-extending magics, but doesn't mind undead. I would imagine that Pharasma doesn't like the daemon hobby of stealing and collecting mortal souls, as possibly even more offensive to her than a shambling zombie or two.
Other than getting his divine jollies by yanking Pharasma's chain, does Charon have any opinions toward the Lady of Graves?
I have a hard time seeing how Charon and Urgathoa relate.

I asked about if you were alive (but still had a corpse in existence) from a spell like Clone, True Resurrection, Reincarnate or Resurrection+Restore Corpse: Pretty sure you are alive after being effected by one of them.
Ah... I either misread or the question didn't make that clear.
I would rule that those corpses would NOT be available to be turned into greater undead, only zombies or skeletons.

Leaf armor still exists in the game—it's actually one of the new types of armor presented in the Inner Sea World Guide, but it's not from Numeria anymore. It's just from druids.
The word "made" in this case is omitted from my reply because:
1) It is not in fact "made" from druids...
OR
2) It IS made from druids and I'm trying to cover it up.
I will promptly discipline myself for being such a failure in making my "Addams Family" reference.

The horseman of death does NOT get along with the church of Pharasma. Daemons eat souls, and as a result, they're on her hate list as much as undead.
Charon and Pharasma are essentially competitors. They are not fans of each other.

You could cast a contingency with create undead to raise yourself when you die, if you must. That requires a fairly high level caster to do, though.
This still wouldn't work, since once you're dead, contingency stops working. Contingency effects must activate before you're dead, because once your'e dead, you're not a "person" any more.
Doesn't mean you can't research a new spell that does this, of course...

when a harpy or other creature uses their captivation ability it states "A Captivated creatures can take no actions other than to defend themselves. A victim that is within 5 feet of the camulatz simply stands and offers no resistance to the creature’s attacks." Does this mean that the creature can coup said captivated creature or just attack it normally?
James Jacobs Creative Director |
Thanks, James.
And how do Charon and Urgathoa interact?
They don't really. Pharasma's too busy to take time to attack Charon (and doesn't want to cause an escalation between daemons/Abaddon and the rest of reality), and Charon's too smart to attack Pharasma.
They avoid each other and let their cults/faiths bicker.

If the creature wants, it can copu de gras the victim. Don't forget to bring your friends if you're hunting harpies!

Thank you have just made the harpy and camulatz far more terrifying. My party might just die tonight ^-^.

OH! He tricked me!
Urgathoa and Charon probably get along pretty well... but I haven't done much thinking on that one all that much. They're almost neighbors, though... cosmically speaking that is... so I'm sure they've had their share of dalliances and arguments...

My reason for asking is that the treasure notes for Nualia mention that her journals provide the PCs her background information that is found on page 12 of the AE. I'm debating whether or not to just photo copy that page and hand it to them or edit it slightly to remove the "barghest" language found therein.
Thanks!

1- what is the relationship between Dis and the City of Brass? especially when it comes to trade?
2- what are the good titans really up to?
3- is there a slave trade in Golarion for monstrous humanoids? if so what is in the highest demand?
1) Nothing special—they're far enough away that they don't really get much more involved than any other major planar city. There's trade between the two, but no more so than one would expect between two major planar metropolises.
2) Surviving and hiding out from their tougher evil kin.
3) Not so much—monstrous humanoids are generally pretty powerful on the overall scale, and as such are kinda tough to not only keep as slaves, but not plentiful enough to make the market sustainable.

JJ,
Thanks for fielding the Mana Wastes questions. That really helps pin down some details about it for me. I would absolutely love to see a book on the region, I think there's a lot of room for exploration and clarification about it, especially in relation to its political and geographical alignment between Nex and Geb.
If I shook the magic 8-Ball, what kind of response would it give about upcoming products detailing more of the wastes?

Can you ready a vital strike with a brace weapon to deal double damage vs. a charging opponent? That is, is bracing a weapon a separate action that requires a standard action on its own or passive bonus any time you ready an attack against a charge with a brace weapon (and thus activates if you ready a vital strike)? Thanks for the fun and informative thread, btw.

Hi James! I was hoping you could answer a few questions about the Whispering Tyrant.
1) Was the death of Arazni the first time that a mortal had killed a (demi-)god on Golarion?
2) Will we ever learn why there was a 2300 year gap between the death of Tar-Baphon and his return as the Whispering Tyrant? Did he have a phylactery before his battle with Aroden, or was his return more unique?
3) Between slaying Arazni, the battle with Aroden, and his defeat by a shard of Aroden's Shield, Tar-Baphon seems to have been connected quite a bit to the Last Azlanti. Is there more to this than just his belief that using the Starstone to achieve divinity was a lame shortcut?

Bracing a weapon is a specific action, and as such you can't combine it with a vital strike.

1) Nope.
2) Maybe. If and when we do a big Tar-Baphon story we might reveal that mystery's secret.
3) Aroden and Tar-Baphon were mortal enemies. Batman/Joker style, or if you prefer, Godzilla/King Ghidorah style.

Hello had a friend of mine ask a question of me tonight that's rather interesting.
"if you sell your soul in a PFS scenario, does the "sold his soul" effect wear off at the end?"
My answer was no probably not, it sticks with you. Then I started to think well how would you reflect this mechanically, I put forth the idea that it would be like the Diabolist's Damned ability. What do you think?

Many thanks! Glad to hear the rivalry wasn't just one-way, though I'd never thought of Aroden as The Joker before.
As for a "big Tar-Baphon story"- that'd be the best Golarion AP/module/book/what-have-you imaginable. Especially if it revealed a connection between the Tyrant and Aroden's death.

Do you have any favorite voice actors/actresses?
If so, can you name your top 5?
1/2: Grey DeLisle and Cherami Leigh are tied for first for me.
3rd: Mark Hamill, my gosh does he make the best villain voices.
4th: Christopher Sabat, his deep voice is very pleasing as both hero and villain.
5th: James Earl Jones. 'Nuff said.

James, if you had zero time constraints, what three Golarion related projects would you tackle, and why?
Cheers!
Ones that I wrote myself? Probably...
1) Shadows Under Sandpoint as a superadventure that's about 160 pages or more in length, cause I like big adventures.
2) Mythos Revisited. Because I Heart Lovecraft!
3) The Big Book of Numeria Stuff. Robots and lasers and more!

Nope... that would stay forever, but I'm not sure we've actually put a chance to sell your soul INTO a PFS scenario yet, have we? There are LOT of mechanical ways this can happen though—most of which are detailed in the 3 Books of the Damned.

Would any of the Gods with the trickery domain be upset if a cleric of theirs pretended to serve another God? In particular: Achaekek, Besmara, Calistra, Norgorber, Sivanah
That depends on the situation, the cleric, or the trickery in question. All of those deities would be pleased or angry depending on the circumstances, but all of them would certainly approve of that deception in other more correct circumstances.
