There's a painting of Ezren in mid-transformation of the curse of donning a girdle of opposite gender. I belive it's in the GameMastery Guide.

You don't happen to have a page number do you?

Elghinn, I don't think asking that is really in the spirit of the thread xD

But, it's up to the Almighty James Jacobs to decide, so.

You can always hit yourself. At the MOST, a GM could say "roll anyway" and could rule that on a natural 1, you miss, but that seems a bit silly to me.

With a Spell Storing Item, what is the DC Save for a spell cast from it? Minimum, like a Scroll, or the Caster's?
The spell's caster level and DC save are set by the spellcaster who puts the spell in the ring in the first place. It's easiest to assume minimums (like a scroll) for these items, but it doesn't have to be so. Especially once the PCs get one and start using it themselves.

1) The original caster feats would apply?

- * - * -

Witches and the Simulacrum spell.

2) It seem a spell in theme with the witch, why they haven't it? And the summoner has it?
Weird.

3) If a witch get a scroll with the simulacrum spell and successfully cast it with use magic device, he can make a simulacrum of his familiar?
It will retain the spell knowledge of the original?

It seem a interesting way to have a "back up" for the witch spells.

- * -

Witches and acquiring spells:

4)In Golarion, how easy it is, for a witch, to go in a city and acquire some spell from another witch?

For a wizard or magus it seem fairly easy, if there is a wizard capable to cast the required level of spells in the city generally he would be as willing to sell his spellcasting services as he would be to allow non competitors to copy spells from his spellbook (for a fee, obviously).
It surely will vary from region to region, but finding a witch in a city seem a bit more difficult (even if the class work very well in a civilized setting, better that in exploration/wilderness adventures).

1) Metamagic would apply, if it were applied to the spell when it was cast into the ring. Feats like Augment Summoning would not.

2) Indeed. Then again, there's quite a few things with those APG spellcaster lists I'd like to revise some day... PARTICULARLY the summoner. For now, though, it is what it is.

3) Yes, but it won't work as a familiar.

4) All it requires is for the witch to find another witch willing to share her magic. It's certainly easier and more common for a wizard to gain spells in this way, making it trickier and more difficult for a witch. But that's one of many reasons the witch is in the ADVANCED book.

There are some lizardfolk living in the Mushfens. Not a LOT, but enough to justify them showing up in an adventure.

There are no bog striders there. Bog striders are pretty rare—they live only in the swamps and marshes of the River Kingdom region.

Four questions about "Fiendish Codex I: Hordes of the Abyss":

1) Aside from their differing backstories, how would you sum up the difference in role and character between 3E's obyriths and PF's qlippoth?

2) What was behind the decision to make Pazuzu an obyrith, given his history as a tanar'ri?

3) If Pale Night existed in Pathfinder's cosmology, would you make her a demon, a qlippoth, a qlippoth-turned-demon (like Dagon), or something else entirely?

4) I know obyriths were based on Green Ronin's qlippoth, but what was the inspiration/creative process behind the loumaras, and would you make them demons or a separate fiendish race in Pathfinder?

1) The obyriths are closed content and the word is a made-up word. Qlippoth are open content and the word is mythological in origin. That's all. You can use obyriths as qlippoth in your game or vice versa with very little impact.

2) In D&D, we made him an obyrith because he's very, very old, but he's also (if my memory serves) an obyrith who's transformed into a demon, as an example of how the two fiend races can change over time.

3) She'd probably stay pretty much the same, because if we bring something into the game that's got an established backstory, I like to keep that the same... assuming we can USE the back story. For Pale Night, since she's 100% an invention of D&D, being able to bring her into Pathfinder would, I assume, mean that Wizards of the Coast let us use ALL of her, and not just the name. If we could only use the name... we wouldn't touch her. As has been the case, more or less, with Tiamat and Demogorgon.

4) The loumaras were created because I wanted to have a go at inventing a brand-new Abyssal race that I made up, and because in so doing I could show how the Abyss is a super fecund place that's always making new forms of chaotic evil life. They're also intended to fill the role of the possessing evil spirit from the netherworld—a role that D&D had classically not done a lot with. If I were to get permission from Wizards of the Coast to use them in Golarion... they'd work exactly the same way. Although we've since come up with our own versions of dybbuks and guecubus, so that'd be weird...

1) How do you handle story XP awards? Is there a formula of some type you use or is it more or less a case-by-case basis?

2) For treasure, should consumables like scrolls, potions, and alchemical items be tallied at full market value for the purpose of determining how much loot the party gets? I ask because it just seems kind of odd that you could put most of an adventures treasure in the form of one-shot items that could be carried by, and sometimes used by, the enemy against the party and say "Well, since you didn't kill so-and-so in the first 2 rounds, they used the consumables instead and you don't get any treasure." For example...** spoiler omitted **
3) What are your 3 favorite monster templates? Also, do you have a custom 'boss' template and if so, what is it?
4) Which types of questions do you most enjoy answering, besides ones pertaining to Merisiel?
5) Do you see any skills in your games get neglected? For example, I can't remember the last time any of our groups had to roll a sleight of hand or handle animal check. Also, appraise is just setup to never be used, since our GMs houserule to skip rolling and just give us full value for art/gems. Personally, I think the appraise DC baseline is a bit too high and I'm working on putting some simple, fair, and effective modifications into place to make this and other skills more desirable. If you've seen this sort of thing happen before, how have you remedied it?
6) Does the Farplane exist in Golarion's cosmology? Also, will we ever see an official multi-verse creation mythos come out of Paizo?
7) You played Magic the Gathering, right? What did you think of the Eldrazi trilogy they did a few years ago? In case you didn't hear, the Eldrazi were a sealed away mix of super-monster/beings that were like a fusion of kaiju and lovecraft monsters.
8) Excited for The Hobbit?!
9) Are there any plans for some sort of magical, technological, or hybrid airship or starship rules for Golarion and it's solar system in the future?
10) Any funny stories from working at Paizo you can tell us without fear of reprisal? Or maybe we could be told by Merisiel, who is a pretty cool gal who stabs the monsters and doesn't afraid of anything?

1) I generally set the XP value of a story reward to be close to the Average Party Level (APL). So in an adventure where I expect the PCs to be 7th level when they earn that story award, I'll generally set that award to be equal to a CR 7 award. If it's a less important story element, I'll lower the CR of the award, but if it's a big important one, I'll raise it.

2) All magic items should be tallied at full price for determining treasure in an adventure, because the assumption is that a party will keep all their magic treasure and use it, and the gp value of a magic item is the only way the game tracks how many items a PC should have at any given level. It does mean that if the PCs end up selling most or all of their magical treasure that they'll end up with less gp worth of treasure overall, which is one of the reasons I generally increase the amount of treasure given out overall by an adventure to 200% or so of the recommended treasures.

3) Half-fiend, worm that walks, and lich. I don't have a "boss" template, since I like to build "boss monsters" through all sorts of methods (usually by adding class levels, templates, and/or advanced Hit Dice).

4) My favorite questions to answer are those about Golarion, Unspeakable Futures, or RPGs in general.

5) Appraise doesn't get a lot of use in my games, since I think it only exists to give the GM busywork. I generally tell players "don't take ranks in Appraise, because you don't need them" and then when they find treasure, I just tell them how much it's worth.

6) Farplane? You mean the Far Realm? No, it does not. The closest thing we have to the Far Realm is the Dark Tapestry, which is fantasy-code for "deep space." It's not another plane, but just a very distant part of the Material Plane.

7) I played Magic most in the time between Antiquities and Homeland. I stopped playing it regularly in 1997 or thereabouts... I played a few times while I was working at Wizards of the Coast from 1999 to 2003, but haven't played it at all except for a little on my iPad since then. I'm not familiar with the Eldrazi Trilogy at all.

8) Yes.

9) Doom Comes to Dustpawn, the 2012 RPG Superstar adventure (which will be coming out in about 3 months, hopefully!) is about a Lirgenni spaceship that crashes into the hills of remote Isger—there'll be descriptions of how that ship flew through space, but no hard rules on how to build them or how to do space travel. That type of thing is something that, if we cover at all, will happen much later.

10) All sorts of stories! A lot of them are spread throughout this very thread!

Lots of them. That's not really a sub-genre I'm all that fond of, though. There's been several comic books about the topic, as well as a few movies and a LOT of short stories. "Discovery of the Ghooric Zone" by Richard A. Lupoff is one of my favorite mythos stories that treats Lovecraft as a character in the story.

6)What movies have you seen lately? what did you think of the ones you did see?

1) Nope; it has to be actual sunlight. Higher level spells like sunbeam would work though, although those spells tend to do damage as well...

2) As a way to provide protection against a weakness. It protects them against minor uses of the energy, but since they're vulnerable, they'll still take more damage than something that isn't vulnerable overall. It's unusual, but not against the rules.

3) Yes. I'd allow androids or lashunta without question. I'd allow ghorans under certain circumstances. I'd not allow syrinxes or monkey goblins, since I feel those work better as monster races.

4) Because including the seelie and unseelie courts is one of those things that would make the Bestiary NOT setting neutral. And while they're setting neutral, I'd rather not put monsters into a Bestiary that we couldn't use somehow in Golarion.

5) Nope. Miss chances can make a natural 20 miss as well.

If Paizo had created a new rules system instead of linking Pathfinder to d&d 3.5, what do you think are the main ways that Golarion would be different? Assuming that in this theoretical situation that Pathfinder was just as successful as it was in real life, and that Golarion was its setting of course.

I'm not trying to imply that Pathfinder should be separated from D&D rules, this is just something I've been wondering about lately. The first 'change' that comes to mind for me is that dragons probably wouldn't be color-coded by alignment, which means Herima would probably be different.

Very interesting, I think I will steal some stuff from that adventure for my Numeria sidestory in my Kingmaker campaign.

A question about the Silver Mount in Numeria:
it has some level of attack capability? in particular anti-aircraft fire?

I envision the original spaceship as a modular construct with semi independent modules with separate energy sources and at least limited maneuver drives. That would explain why some of the sections of the ship are still active.
Probably the ship was downed in some form of interstellar war that could still be active. Or at least the ship AI would still be fighting it.
So the Silver Mountain, detecting an approaching star craft that is not on its friend list would open fire against it, potentially crippling it and forcing it to crash land near the PC territory.

I think you would not say if my scenario is possible, but it would clash with what you have in store for the future of Numeria or it could mesh reasonably well?

I generally apply the resistance first and the weakness to what bypass the resistance.

The best way is to have the PCs not get killed by the victors, but to be imprisoned. That lets you run the classic "prison break" scenario that's so hard to hard-code into an adventure. Most of our adventures have pretty detailed locations and as such changing the tone of an adventure from "explore this dungeon" to "break out and get your gear back and then continue exploring" isn't that huge a jump.

An alternate is if the PCs have made friends or allies earlier in the adventure to have those allies swoop in and rescue them.

We've not yet revealed much at all about the Silver Mount's features. We eventually will, and I have a few ideas already, but I'm not ready to make those public.

So, as with any region in Golarion that we haven't really detailed, if you're going to set a campaign there and detail it on your own, you just need to be comfortable with the fact that your vision may or may not be compatible with ours. After all, if you run a 3 year campaign set in a region we've not said much about, to you and your players, THAT version will be the one you're comfortable with and familiar with once we finally get around to detailing our version.

2)Why does the Annihilater and Zelishkar have energy resistance for an energy type they are weak too?

2) As a way to provide protection against a weakness. It protects them against minor uses of the energy, but since they're vulnerable, they'll still take more damage than something that isn't vulnerable overall. It's unusual, but not against the rules.

You would apply the energy resistance before or after the vulnerability?

I generally apply the resistance first and the weakness to what bypass the resistance.

When damage is rolled, it gets adjusted by the vulnerability to form a final damage total. It's THAT amount of damage that actually adjusts the target's hit points, and it's only when the damage starts adjusting those hit points that resistance kicks in.

2. Is it only members of Paizo staff that run the Iconic's you see on the messageboards or can anyone who feel's like it do it? (thinking the ask x threads maonly)
2) There's no official ruling there that I'm aware of.
At the moment I believe the only staff-run iconics are Merisiel (James), Imrijka (Crystal), and Reiko (Liz). Kajehase has the Lem alias, I have Alain (though I don't use him much), and another normal user has Kyra but I forget who it is.
Tim Nightengale is running with Kyra's avatar, since he played her in a playtest of Jason's "Crypt of the Everflame" several years ago.

Sara Marie runs Feiya.

Finally doing a thorough read through of Artifacts & Legends. I direct your attention to page 6. Is that Seoni dressed up in Valeros' arms and armor? If so, that's wonderful.

Are we likely to get any more art for cross dressed/geared iconics?

Yes.

YES!

Wait. Yes to both questions?

Yes.

YES!

So James, can we have a super powerful T-Rex as the end boss for your level of the Emerald Spire? I'd be so thrilled ....

What do you think about the new Pacific Rim trailer?

It looks pretty awesome to me - and the origin of the kaiju in the movie as mentioned in the trailer is pretty intriguing.

I saw that trailer, considering the actress who plays the human's computer and where the monsters come from, I have used the following title to sum up Pacific Rim.

Cthulhu vs. GLaDOS

I am very excited, indeed. :)

I saw this one in the theaters on opening day...it left me um, scared about giant robot movies.

I would describe it more as a live action Neon Genesis Evangelion than GLaDOS vs Cthulhu.
