Never heard of them. They're not mentioned on the Wiki. Doesn't mean they don't exist, but it does mean it's VERY unlikely we'll ever do much with them if they do.

I think I recognise the Eternal Charge. Could have been in one of the Adventure Path monster entries.

I created a Google-maps like web interface to the World of Golarion that allows you to zoom into and around just like Google Maps, but its using a Map from the PDFs for my personal use right now. (Not publicly available)

1) Would you at Pazio like the code to host it on your site?
2) If not, how would I add this to another site like d20pfsrd or pathfinderwiki without violating copyrights?
3) Can we create a representation of the map without violating any copyrights?

I don't want to violate any intellectual property rights. Please advise.

Dear James,
It is very gracious of you to satisfy so many curiosities so fulfillingly as you have done so far.
I have a boring, technical question which I've seen cause enough confusion to warrant a FAQ (maybe).

Does strength penalty affect carrying capacity?

1) I don't make those decisions... that's more a question for Vic, but there's a fair amount of restrictions on what code we allow onto the site, I suspect, due to credit card security restrictions or stuff like that, and I'm not sure how things like that work.

2) You'd have to talk to the other sites; again, I'm not sure of the answers here.

3) We have a pretty open Community Use policy... but if what you've created uses any maps we've not released for use as part of that policy, you can't make the application public.

Jeff Alvarez is probably the one to talk to more about this (and any other licensed stuff)... although Erik Mona might be the one. Again... this question's answers are pretty well out of my area of expertise.

A strength penalty reduces your strength's effectiveness, so yes, it would also reduce your carrying capacity, since that's something that is set by your strength score.

And thanks for the kind words, by the way! :)

How old is Lord Gyr of House Gixx? The images of him always seem to show a man of middle age at the most, but his reign has been ongoing for 52 years, and in A Guide to Absalom it states that he returned to Absalom to claim the title of primarch after "decades" of adventuring. Are the pictures of him current or are they portraits of him in his prime? Or is has he just aged very, very well?

Incidentally, concerning the position of primarch (and really any position set "for life"), what is the general view of the populace when such figures use their considerable wealth to purchase a Sun Orchid Elixir, and thus extending their reign for quite some time? If, let's say, Gyr did this, what would the response of the Grand Council be? What would happen if Abrogial the III did this? What the agents of Hell or even her own court be displeased (I assume that her close relationship with Hell's servants probably damned her soul, if it doesn't already belong outright to some fiend or other)?

Sorry for the long question, and thanks in advance for your time :)

He's probably middle aged. He's also rich. AKA: He's probably taken a dose of the Sun Orchid Elixir...

If, as might be the case, a leader extends his life by that method (or any other), and he's got a position that lasts "for life," if his people like him then that's fine. If they don't... well... there's PLENTY of ways for a dissatisfied public to "Fire" someone from a "for life" position.

Hey James... Asked you a question back in November of last year, appreciated the answer. But of course, as you know, players are never satisfied... especially since I couldn't find any satisfying answers on the forums :p

Here's a question for you:
How do abilities that allow you to roll two d20s instead of one... interact with reroll abilities?

Do you reroll both d20s? Only one? Or...?

Here's some context (links lead to Paizo PRD entries):

The Perfect Strike ability lets me roll two dice for an attack roll, and choose the higher result.

The Inquisitor's Preacher Archetype has the determination ability, which can let me re-roll an attack roll before the result is known.

Hence, if you use both of these abilities on one attack roll, what is supposed to happen, or at the very least, intended to happen? Apart from my GM throwing his rulebook at me, anyway :P

Thanks again!

In a case like that, you'd get to reroll only one of the two d20 rolls.

Thanks, your speedy reply is most appreciated, as always! I found that by multiclassing the Weapon Adept Monk Archetype with the Inquisitor... that you get some class that slightly resembles the Avenger from 4th Edition D&D, which is spiffy.

Playing fanatical nutjobs from esoteric religious orders is always fun :D. Especially if you roleplay them like Alexander Anderson from Hellsing Ultimate! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMEN, hahahaha.

Well I don't know those people so I would assume they read this thread.

So if the community were to recreate the maps of Galarion, but not a trace of the maps, would that be acceptable? Just like how Pathfinderwiki has artists create a interpretation of the Iconic art? Same thing you think?

Sorry to belabor this, but its because of this thread that introduced http://www.mapsofgolarion.com/.

All of the art that's in the Community Use package, plus all the art from the blog, is free to use for Community Use purposes. That includes maps.

We have no plans to add any more domains to the game; adding domains is kind of a sketchy trick in and of itself since it wreaks havoc on the balance of which deities get what domain. Subdomains were more or less invented precisely to give us a better opportunity to add domains without having to rebuild entire deity tables each time.

That said... we've also no plans at the moment to add a music domain. I'm not sure what I would sub in as a replacement, honestly... making a new subdomain might be the best bet, in which case I'd probably put it under the domain of Charm.

That's what I suspected unfortunately. On the bright side that was exactly the domain I had been subbing in for music with the gods I was currently using and I would like to be the first to throw my support behind a music subdomain, there are many cases of gods of music and would love to see one. Also it would be awesome to see a music cleric to Shelyn, Calistra, or even Norgorber. Now that I think about it a music cleric to Norgorber give a whole new meaning to the phrase "For whom the bell tolls".

Some people are nuking this:

"Underwater Combat

Land-based creatures can have considerable difficulty when fighting in water. Water affects a creature's attack rolls, damage, and movement. In some cases a creature's opponents might get a bonus on attacks. The effects are summarized on Table: Combat Adjustments Underwater. They apply whenever a character is swimming, walking in chest-deep water, or walking along the bottom of a body of water."

What is your ruling?

My take is that it applies only to land-based creatures, not to creatures that dwell in water.

And the comment on swim speed right under the the table indicates that beings with natural swim speeds are also affected.

There's no special connection between samsarans and rakshasas—no more, in any event, than a connection between all the various races who aren't that closely associated with reincarnation.

That text is pretty awkwardly written, I'll agree.

My take: Creatures that have the aquatic type don't have to worry about those penalties... but ALL manufactured weapons must abide by these rules, regardless of whether or not the creature wielding them is aquatic.

A serious question. Probably has been asked, but here goes.

I am a very weak-willed person, and I tend to read things on these boards that I shouldn't and get all upset over them. Mental disorders and chemical imbalances in the brain tend to do that.

My question is: Is there ANY chance you could ask the tech guy to add a button on the "Messageboards" section (right side of the opening screen) to "minimize" that panel, condense it and basically make it not so inviting to click around on? Or perhaps make an option in Account Preferences to purposefully remove that bar from the screen?

I'm just sick of seeing political spew threads, mostly, because the loud idiots I find make me sick to my stomach and to the point of wanting to become a lich so that I'm not f!*$ing human anymore.

My apologies for the vitriol, I'm not feeling well stomach-wise and just saw another stupid bait thread.

I've got questions. Questions about Ioun Stones!

1)About how fast does a ioun stone orbit around someone's head?

2)Is there a limit to the number of ioun stones you can have orbiting your head?

3)Is it possible to have so many ioun stones orbiting your head that it blocks your field of vision?

4)Can you have enough ioun stones orbiting your head that if you put your head underwater it would churn the water creating a impromptu jacuzi?

5)Are there ioun stones that can orbit other parts of your body?

6)If you have an ioun stone that improves your escape artist skill what happens to it if you use it to help you squeeze through a hole smaller than the orbit of a ioun stone.?

7)If you could have an ioun stone what type of ioun stone would you want?

8)What do ioun stones taste like?

When I can't play RPGs, I like to spend my time working with them. One of my favorite things to do is build characters (PCs and NPCs of all levels).

I saw people talking about Red Hand Doom being the best mid-level Adventure from 3.5, so I knew I had to check it out and I'm glad I did..I'm hoping to run it someday.

In the mean-time, I'm reworking almost all of the classed characters to use Pathfinder classes. I've tried to keep the themes of the characters consistent, even if I use a different class altogether. A few of them I also gave an extra level or two. I was wondering if you could give your opinions of some of the more major revisions...

1)Captain Soranna I made a lvl 6 Paladin (Hospitaller) [was Fighter/5]
2)Captain Lars Ulverth I turned from a simple Fighter/7 to a lvl 11 Cavalier/5 Bard/1 Battle Herald/5
3)The aranea spy Miha Serani I made into a Rogue/Arcane Trickster. Her HD gave her the prerequisite spellcasting, so she loses a bit of casting for a heck of a lot of skill points and class skills, which she needs as a spy.
4)I changed the bugbear sorcerer Wyrmlord Koth into a Magus. The presence of the generic Hobgoblin sorcerers (which I will give the draconic bloodline to, obviously, and perhaps levels in Dragon Disciple), somewhat overshadow him, so I thought it would be chance to play with the new class.
5)I made Wyrmlord Ulwai Stormcaller a Storm Druid rather than a bard with the 3.5 prestige class. The mindbenders can play bard...a hobgoblin druid that summons lightning storms is special I think.
6)As pathfinder has no favored soul, I made the Wyrmlord General Kharn a Battle Oracle. I thought the powers were quite well-suited to a general.
7)I made the doomfist monks anti-paladins instead. I had a hard time figuring out exactly what their role was, but monks didn't seem to fit with the rest of the adventure, IMO. So I picked something vaguely religious that wouldn't step on any other bad guys' toes.
8)Perhaps the biggest revision: I made the Ghostlord into Bones Oracle. I knew I needed to keep him divine, but I couldn't find a druid archetype that would fit with the blighter idea and make sense with the whole lich/undead end of thing. The mystical nature of the oracle seemed to fit with his role in life, and the bones mystery seemed to fit his habits in death. IDK if this still fits with your concept of the guy...maybe I just didn't understand who/what he was supposed to be.

As a relatively minor question, what god would you use from the Golarion pantheon in place of the Yollanda in Brindol?

Thanks in advance...I know this is a long post.

I don't know if this is a proper person to be asking so I apologize.

Would a spell like this be completely out of the realm of possibility for cannon pathfinder material? My key thought is that I want to keep it a conjuration spell.

It's been years since I've looked at Red Hand of Doom, so I'm not really able to provide a lot of detailed feedback. My preference, though, when updating older adventures, is to retain as much of the original as possible—I wouldn't turn fighters into paladins or sorcerers into magi as a general rule. When faced with something like a favored soul, I'd go for the closest parallel—in the case of a favored soul, oracle is a great choice.

In cases where there's NOT an obvious choice... I generally keep the NPC as it was and either use the 3.5 source (adapted to PF rules) if it's a home game, or typically build replacement rules for the character if it's for print.

I'm not sure who Yollanda is. Did you mean Yondalla?

The previous question I asked comes pretty close to crossing the line on my preference to NOT offer feedback on game design... but this one does cross it. I generally avoid giving game design feedback for numerous reasons ranging from legal issues to personal preference to simply wishing to avoid getting embroiled in complicated back-and-forth discussions. Sorry... but posts like "Is this spell I invented balanced?" are best asked elsewhere on this messageboard.

Yes...the halfling deity from 3.5...she has a shrine and a small cult following of philanthropists in Brindol -- it's been so long since I've played 3.5 rather than Pathfinder I have a hard time remembering the names of the old pantheon.

The obvious conversion of Pelor is Sarenrae, of Wee Jas is Pharasma, but the best thought I had was Shelyn.

1) That's up to the GM. I always assumed they do about a full revolution in a second though.

2) No.

3) No one is that rich. They orbit the top of the head anyway, not the middle

4) See #3 above.

5) No.

6) The ioun stone follows as best it can.

7) The pearly white spindle.

8) Slightly fizzy gravel rocks.

THANKS! :D

I slightly disagree with you on the rich enough part since my 20th level monk is spending all his 880,000 gp on dull gray ioun stones, translates to 35,200 stones, but since it orbits above my head it won't block my direct field of vision.

Now I can do what I've always wanted to do. Buy enough ioun stones to provide some shade and with a little prestidigitation from my wizard friend have enough swag to put the fanciest hat wearer to shame.

Turn heads in town. Give out a few here and there to curious street urchins. Bluff/Intimidate foes into thinking I'm some epic level adventurer with enough magic items to make the hordes of dragon gods seem meager.

There are no words for the shiny you have found here. But now how in Cthulhu did that happen? My guess is Cthulhu had an odd bout of unnatural interest during his whole Cretaceous phase lol.

James are we going to get more on different gods in Golarion for all the races?

I'm not sure who Yollanda is. Did you mean Yondalla?

Yes...the halfling deity from 3.5...she has a shrine and a small cult following of philanthropists in Brindol -- it's been so long since I've played 3.5 rather than Pathfinder I have a hard time remembering the names of the old pantheon.

The obvious conversion of Pelor is Sarenrae, of Wee Jas is Pharasma, but the best thought I had was Shelyn.

I would probably replace Yondalla with Erastil.

Ummmm... you can do the same thing with a 1st level illusion spell if you want...

...never mind the fact that I'm not sure there are dull gray ioun stones in Pathfinder, unless they sneaked in somehow when I wasn't looking.

So if one wanted to make a science fiction RPG and actually go the distance... what suggestions would you have?

Beyond what's already in print in "Gods & Magic?"

Not a lot, and not that quickly.

Well... for me, I decided on "Unspeakable Futures," a post-apocalyptic mash-up of Lovecraft, Road Warrior, Fallout, Dark Tower, and Gamma World.

Your Mileage May Vary.

James, do you ever sleep? Admit it, you have either a ring of sustenance or are a construct! It is past midnight in Washington. Don't you need to get up for work in the morning?

*chuckles*
