Does the name "Golarion" have a meaning in-universe? What culture gave the planet that name?

Well... there was that one guy who would put paint tubes in his anus and then clench and squirt it out to paint his pictures... But I don't think I want Pathfinder associated with that type of art.

Rysky might want to be, definitely Cosmo, but I dunno about Pathfinder.

What do you think about anus based, projectile artwork James?

I think it's not all that appropriate a topic for these boards.

It does—it means "The Cage."

As for what culture gave it that name... unrevealed, but probably Azlant.

Okay folks... just the regular reminder to keep this thread to questions. Discussions about interpretive dance and real-world religion belong elsewhere.

So Aroden might have escaped "The Cage", and found himself cut off and unable to return to the Golarion the he came from?

Multi-verse Golarion makes since if you think about the connection to our Earth (which might be another Golarion, or vice versa) and maybe the connection to the crashed ship in Numeria. Maybe they haven't been back because the people where they came from saw them disappear and thought they were destroyed instantly instead of traveling to Golarion. Maybe the Azlanti knew that the Aboleths had 'Caged' us all. /rant

Nope. It's called "The Cage" because it metaphorically contains Rovagug and his prison plane. Has nothing to do with Aroden, really.

Earth is not "another Golarion" but a specific and separate world in a distant galaxy. And the home planet of the ship that crashed in Numeria is Androffa, which is itself a THIRD world separate from Earth and Golarion. So neither of those have much to do with the planet being called "The Cage" as well.

Nope! You do have to get your manager's approval if you do run your own company though. It's not total anarchy there.

That is amazing! I am SURE a certain other major competitor of yours would not be so open.

I have to tip my hat to you guys again. It almost seems like, as a corporation, Paizo is trying it's darndest to not fall into typical corporate stereotypes. Between no noncompete clauses, open gaming content, free lore availability through wikis, excellent customer service feedback, open communication with fans on the forums...

Can you pass the message on to the big lady and anyone else responsible for these factors. I don't think she's got an "ask" thread here, and I'm too lazy to start one.

Now to remain valid to the topic of the thread...

I enjoy it, but not so much that I seek it out. If I stumble across it and it's funny, I'll usually stick around. My favorite comedians these days would be Sarah Silverman and Jim Gaffigan. My favorite classic stand up comedians would be George Carlin and Bill Cosby.

Considering the sheer number of Great Old Ones on it (including some exceptionally dangerous ones sealed by the Elder Things), would Earth be reasonably viewed as a "containment" planet by extra-terrestial or extraplanar forces?

What makes you think Earth has an unusual number of Great Old Ones? It could well be the norm!

Believe it or not, I actually did come up with that five-letter combination of names on my own. I'm not claiming something outlandish like it was stolen from me, but it wasn't consciously a name I took from elsewhere. Certainly, none of the names Wikipedia cites evoke imagery of an elven woman who came down from the stars with power over dreams and who might just be some sort of alien giant space moth.

Never meant to imply you did. I'm pretty sure that you did not go up scouring Russian place and missle names. And I'm sure the folks at Avatar thought their's was original as well. It is fascinating how some names just keep popping up independently.

Interesting!

I was surprised when i saw that image (i'm like what is Iomedae doing in this game). the similarity is uncanny.

I thought "Cool, some of our design is inspiring other companies now!" Pride and delight, mostly.

It does not set off my intellectual property infringement alarms though... although it would if the faith and personality of the character is too close to Iomedae.

Who discovered psychic magic in Golarion? Which (PC) race in Golarion is the most adept at it? Will there ever be an iconic warrior-type class that is a gnome or halfling?

Mr. Jacobs, speaking of factions, there's some I'm curious about...

1) Do you have anything in mind for the Aspis Consortium coming up, or do you leave them to other writers (such as the PFS crew)?

2) Whose idea was the Aspis Consortium?

3) Do you have more plans or stories for the Red Mantis cult?

4) Is there a faction (or factions) you like best? Least? (Speaking personally, not as Creative Director.)

Also...

5) Will we ever see more of Cayden Cailean in the APs? His article appeared in Second Darkness, but he was barely represented there, and none of the other Paths seem to have anything to do with him - no clerics, nothing.

Thank you! :)

I have a limited gaming income. We use all the rules, more or less, as they come available on d20pfsrd or Archives of Nethys. I purchased the CRB to support Paizo, specifically because 90% of the rules you need to quickly look up are there.

Given I probably won't buy more than a book a year, what would you recommend as my second hardcover? Again, since we use web references, this would be whatever is likely to get the most use.

So you are saying we should expect a 'drunken master' adventure path some time in the future? Or something like: The Ultimate Golarion Barcrawl AP - Fight and drink yourself through the most iconic bars and taverns in Golarion, while rescuing some people from oppression without realising it.

I'm sure that would go to the more 'experimental' APs ;)

Would even go great with a player companion: Taverns of Golarion or Drinks of Golarion.

Some questions concerning Kusasfa from Curse of Crimson Throne AP:

1. How long ago he awoke and escaped his tomb in mastaba?
2. Is he undead (what kind, if he is)?
3. Does he have PC or NPC class levels?
4. Is he planing to rise Sorshen, or he took the chance to be free from her forewer?

And questions concerning towns, that are in Korvosa domain, when CoCT AP takes place:
How situation in Korvosa affects settlements in its domain? I can imagine that Biston and Sirathu may rebel (and Abken may start something, considering how strange it is), but what about Melfesh, Harse, Baslwief, Palin's Cove and Veldraine? Where they planing their own rebelion? Was there anybody, who would plan intervention in Korvosa to stop Ileosa? Or rulers of those settlements where loyal to her (or afraid to take actions)? Did Ileosa gave them any orders, or let them reign on their own?

As the guy that runs the AoN, I second this. If you use my site or the d20pfsrd a lot, then you're going to get the most value out of a big book of setting material, since that is the one thing that neither site has a lot of (d20pfsrd not at all, and my site just in the flavor of other items/feats/"things").

Questions, though! Mr. Jacobs:

I'm assuming you know about shabti (Pathfinder Adventure Path #84: Pyramid of the Sky Pharaoh).

1) If you built a shabti character, what would you build him/her as?

2) What sort of personality would you give them?

3) Would Urgathoa have been known in Ancient Osirion? I had an idea for an ancient shabti worshiper of Urgathoa, whiling away her immortality in indolent hedonism...

Thank you! :)

Not to distract too much but there is some insight into Cayden Cailean in the Plunder & Peril module. A town featured there, Lilywhite, describes a holy day, festivities and a church/bar.

Nope... not what I'm saying at all. What I'm saying is that Cayden Cailean is not one of the deities that's more interesting to me, and as such, in the products I work on, primarily the Adventure Paths... he tends to get ignored in favor of deities that DO interest me.

Not sure a "You're drunk all six adventures long" AP would be a great idea... and if we DID do a drunken master type adventure, I'd be tempted to focus as much on Irori as any other deity. Cause of Jackie Chan.

1) Many many years ago. Centuries ago. Possibly more. Long before Korvosa existed.

2) Unrevealed.

3) He would have PC levels. Sorshen wouldn't be interested in a mook with only NPC levels. What class he was, though is unrevealed.

4) Unrevealed.

For the most part, the outlying towns go quiet and stay dutiful; Ileosa focuses the bulk of what she's doing to Korvosa itself, and as things go on, you might see more folks fleeing the outlying towns for Magnimar or maybe even Kaer Maga, but there's no real rebellions forming there. If the PCs don't do their job, more of them likely would eventually form there, but by that point, Ileosa would likely move against them. As written, though, the outlying towns just don't have much of a role in the AP. You can have them work however you want.
