Hello james

Can I create a wand of lesser eidolon restoration at caster level 3 even tho I gain that spell at summoner level 4 ?

I'm using the Heroes Lab program to make my character and it actually allows me to create the wand at caster level 3 (4,500 gold). But this might be an error and it is why I want to verify if is it possible.

That's a good question for the rules team and an FAQ tag.

Hello James,

I'm planning on having Tsuto Kaijitsu have survived the events of RotRL in an upcoming Jade Regent campaign I plan on running (he escaped his bounds while being transported to Magnimar for trial). I find myself having some difficulty figuring out what role I want him to play in the campaign and would love some insight from you!

I'm re-making him into the Snakebite Striker Brawler archetype, which replaces their Martial Flexibility and Maneuver Training with Sneak Attack Progression and Better Feinting (a good reskinning of a monk/rogue multi-class, which he was previously). My main questions are...

1) His original alignment is LE - in regards to the lawful aspect, was that something that was very key to his character, or was he lawful to satisfy the requirement of the monk class?

2) I'm uncertain if I want him to develop into a recurring villain or a begrudging ally. In the events of RotRL he was head over heels for Nualia, but never intended to have his sister sacrificed (despite the fact Nualia does so if Ameiko is brought to her). With some years on his own following the events of RotRL, would Tsuto be hostile or interested in harming his sister? Or would he be more interested in rekindling their relationship? If the former he'd probably end up as CE, and the latter, CN.

3) If he is a villain, do you think he would be more likely to try to infiltrate the caravan and sabotage them along the way via a magic item such as a cap of disguise? Or that he would align with bandits and highwaymen, and eventually the Oni, to try to destroy his sister and company?

I look forward to your responses, and as always, thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy day to answer our questions! It means alot!

1) It's part of his character. He's very ordered and organized and calculating.

2) Could go any way... that's the fun part about recurring characters is seeing them grow. He could grow into whatever role you needed for your game.

3) He'd be more likely to ally with bandits or other bad guys than to try to infiltrate and deceive.

James the Eidolon from the summoner (not the synthesis) can be healed from normal magic healing such has cure light wounds or lesser restoration? or can only be healed by the specific eidolon healing spells from the summoner spell list? I can't find anywhere in the books or FAQ's that the eidolon cannot be healed from normal spells aka cure light wounds.

The eidolon is a living creature, and as such it can be healed by all the normal ways living creatures can be healed. The specific eidolon healing spells on the summoner's list exist only to add to those options in a way that allows the summoner to help heal, without giving the summoner access to the classic healing spells (which isn't appropriate for the class's flavor).

The eidolon for the synthesist archetype is a special case. It only adds temporary hit points to the summoner itself and none of the cure spells heal temporary hit points.

You mean basically play the character as a person and don't use stereotypes?

Why do you think people have come to hate the kender so much?

Because it was designed by someone other than me who obviously doesn't think the same way as me.

Exactly. That goes for any character, of course.

Because some people out there have little to no appreciation of whimsy and humor in their fantasy, and want their fantasy to be dark and grim. They don't realize that whimsy and humor can ENHANCE things that are dark and grim.

That's what I think too. I personally thought the kender were entertaining (with what little experience I had with Dragonlance), and I feel they live on in Pathfinder's gnomes. Thanks again! :)

Thank you for the response!

At this point I think I'm going to have him infiltrate the caravan (in the hope of maybe learning what's going on on the way to Brinewall) and he'll be eventually discovered. Depending on the PC's actions at that point, he'll either be warily allowed to come along and grow toward being an ally, or if he's turned away/attacked, he'll flee and thus pursue the caravan with nasties and potentially ally with the Five Storms.

I think the only thing I'd still ask pertaining to Tsuto is do you feel he's too far gone for redemption, with the murder of his father and innocent civilains? I worry whether it would be too cliche for him to be redeemed or not, especially with all of the other things that occur in Jade Regent.

Also, a couple of questions on the Silver Maiden and Runescarred Dragonship, the two artifact ships.

1) If somebody were to shoot at one with ballistae, cannons and so on, would there be any actual damage done, or would the attacks functionally just bounce off and do no damage at all?

2) Are the two ships armed with weapons, or would you need to add weapons after acquiring them?

3) The Dragonship does not seem unique in its text, so there could be more than one. The Silver Maiden, however, does. Would it be an important element, or more a transport to get the (almost certainly mythic) party from place to place?

4a) Do records exist of it? As in, would a sailor be likely to recognise it if they saw it?

4b) Would a sailor recognise a Runescarred Dragonship from stories and legends?

1- Are there trains of any sort in Golarion Other than in Numeriaand other futuristic settings)?

2- If yes, how common are they?

3- Are they used mostly for transporting passengers, cargo or both?

1) You shouldn't be. I don't actually have a lot of time to involve myself in the rulebook line—"Creative Director" and "Adventure Path Developer" are both more or less full time jobs, and doing both doesn't leave me much time to be seriously involved in non-Adventure Path lines.

Whalebone Pilk and his ghost ship killed us all, thanks to a spate of poor saving throw rolls and a few players (NOT ME!!!!) doing bad tactics.

As for the rest of your questions... I can't answer them because I don't know what you're talking about. If they're things from "Skull & Shackles," I didn't read or write or develop or edit any of that save the 5th adventure, because I was busy doing the APs on either side of it.

I assumed they might have existed in Numeria because... Well... they have androids, so they must have had trains at some point.

Why do orcs only have one weapon classified as a racial weapon? Despite it being their racial weapon, I cannot recall ever having heard of a character or NPC using an orc double axe.

Are there any plans to expand the lists of applicable weapons for races with similarly slim pickings for racial weapons?

Ah, sorry.

They're two ships that happen to also be artifacts. The Runescarred Dragonship is from Ultimate Equipment (a minor artifact longship), and the Silver Maiden is from Mythic Adventures (major artifact sailing ship). Since those books are somewhat setting-neutral, the questions are related with how they would/do fit into Golarion in particular.

The Runescarred Dragonship is here, and the Silver Maiden is here (third artifact from the bottom, just above the Tarnhelm).

Can ancient-born (dhampir whose vampiric parent is a nosferatu) grow hair (both facial and on the head)?

The reason I ask is because most images of nosferatu in the books, both male and female, as well as the example picture of an ancient-born dhampir in Blood of the Night, have been bald.

Ah; also places I've not yet had a chance to read up on, nor was I involved in the writing of them or design/editing/development of them, so my answer more or less remains the same. They are both VERY unlikely to ever be officially brought into Golarion, so how they fit in is left to the individual GM.

The reason most of them are illustrated as bald is because that's a defining characteristic of the nosferatu, due to the movies of the same name. As such my gut feeling is to say that no, they can't grow hair. Helps them look right for what they are. That said... half elves can grow beards whereas elves can't, so it's really up to you.

Oh giant, friendly, talking dinosaur tell me have you ever ran a campaign using any permadeath rules and what is your opinion of using permanent death in a game? I've run a campaign before where only one deity (Pharasma, who in my campaign was named Turthonir) granted resurrection-type spells to clerics, and that decision was so unpopular that I went back to having it granted by all deities. It was the right change.

I've never run a game where there's no way for a dead character to come back to life. Even in games like Call of Cthulhu (although the methods of coming back to life in that game are not things that you necessarily want to happen to your character).

If I WERE to run a game with permadeth, I'd make the act of being killed a LOT harder to pull off, and would give players hero points or something that they could use as a limited resource in order to stave off unexpected death via save or die or critical hits or the like. It's pretty unsatisfying to die because you happened to roll low on initiative, of because the GM underestimated the danger of an encounter but was too stubborn to admit that he/she messed up the design.

Why can I drink coffee with lots of sweet stuff added and find it tasty, or at least tolerable, but when I try the same thing with tea it tastes disgusting to me?

Same thing with soup and ramen. I find chicken noodle soup okay or even great depending on where it's from, but ramen always seems to taste like piss to me. What's wrong with me?!

Thanks for your feedback. I'll let my player have a trial run with the permadeath rules and see how they take it the first time a beloved party member dies. If they are fine with it I'll continue on if not I can always go back and let them add the proper spells.

Unlikely; those names were invented whole cloth for that section and they don't necessarily have ties to Golarion or any other world. As such, that name and the others simply hasn't been on the radar of anyone working on the Golarion side of things. Because tastes vary, and with time those tastes can change. Try going without sugar at all for a year (or even a month) and then when you DO try a sugary drink... it's like drinking poison.

Anyway, nothing's wrong with you. Everyone has different tastes. That's why there's so many different choices when it comes to pretty much everything.

Wish and miracle would work. A building is generally too big and consists of too many objects to use animate object on it. You COULD, I suppose, turn a building into a construct, but that's likely a mythic or at the very least a campaign-length goal.

Did you have any particular inspirations in mind when you wrote, "Ten Fun Facts About Goblins"?

I ask because, for the second AP in a row, I am letting my two boys run all the goblins in the campaign. And though they have never read those facts, they so epitomize them in their goblin-y behavior that it's scary to watch.

Did you have a couple of younglings playing goblins for you, or did you brilliantly write goblins on the fly as "enemies played by young boys" without knowing just how accurate you were being?
