1) I prefer roleplaying, with combat second and problem/riddles dead last. The roleplaying element appeals to me because story development is my favorite part of a story. Often, the action is merely something that happens to connect or bridge areas between story points. That said, I really do enjoy the tactical element of combat, particularly the teamwork elements of it in working with other players. That's why I tend to prefer support characters like bards or clerics or classes like the rogue that require a lot more tactics to pull off than other classes. Puzzle solving usually leaves a sour taste in my mouth, since so many of this type of gameplay elements focus on the player solving it, not the character. I play the game to escape, not to be me.

2) Shensen. I've gone into this detail pretty recently in these threads, but basically she's the character I've had the most fun with and who I've played the longest, be it in D&D, Pathfinder, or World of Warcraft.

3) Probably the time I made one of my players fall out of his chair backward because he was laughing so hard at something I'd described happening in game.

4) My imagination; I'd been telling stories and play acting as long as I can remember. Part of the necessary result of growing up in a very small town where there was no neighborhood filled with kids my age to play with easily. My first introduction to actual pen-and-paper RPGs was back in 5th grade in 1982, when my teacher split the class up into several parties and ran us one encounter at a time through a dungeon using the blue book rules for D&D. Someone in each group had to write up that session's adventure as a short story before the next game could take place, so it was sort of a way to trick kids into writing. I was ALREADY writing a lot, though, so my group got off lucky since I wrote all the chapters except the third one, where we fought the giant talking crabs.

5) Favorite time period = modern day Golarion. Favorite civilization = Varisians or elves. Favorite event/moment = none come to mind. Favorite important figure = Dunno...I like a lot of them equally!

6) Bard, Cleric, and Rogue are my favorites (see above). I like paladins the least because they both encourage disruptive play styles (and thus disruptive characters), and because the lawful alignment stuff is generally really boring to me. I like playing whimsical or unpredictable or capricious or reactionary characters.

Tradition; it's the way it's kinda always been in the game, and it's something that's even MORE traditional now with how computer RPGs handle inventory item slots.

A big part of it is simply that it's ridiculous to assume that someone could wear multiple sets of shoes or gloves or hats on their head without looking like a clown, and so on that level it's about verisimilitude.

It's also about balance; item slot items tend to have similar powers, and by not allowing multiple ones to function at once, you avoid having one person get too over the top with those effects.

1) I have not. I haven't actually played many MOBAs; LoL is the only one I've really tinkered much with, and I found the experience frustrating and annoying. Likely due to the fact that the genre grew out of RTS games, and Starcraft more or less cured me of any interest in that genre due to its competitiveness, difficulty, and the fact that it's so constantly and endlessly fast paced that you can't stop to admire the artistry of the game itself.

What kind of involvement (if any) will you have with a Pathfinder single player RPG (like the one Obsidian will hopefully announce soon)? Will you be involved with creating/writing the plot, making a continuity check, or making sure the game doesn't get too close to a future planned AP (or dovetails into one)?

As Creative Director, I have approval over most of the licensed products we do. For the comics and audio dramas, for example, I read the scripts and provide feedback and advice on changes, for example. All of the things you mention above COULD be things I'd be involved with in a video game license, I suppose, although that's more than I do in my interactions with Pathfinder Online or the current card game adaptation that Obsidian is working on.

I'd certainly LOVE to be involved in a single player RPG (of ANY brand, not just a Pathfinder licensed one), and would LOVE to do as much of the writing for it as they'd let me. Whether or not I'll ever have that opportunity... I don't know.

I helped write the art orders for the original iconics, and continue to be one of the folks who decides what race and gender and alignment each one is. I wrote a fair number of the original "Meet the Iconics" backstories, but have more recently had to let other people write those as my responsibilities grow.

Merisiel is the best iconic, no contest.

I cant tell if you are being sarcastic. Robin Williams's, (may he rest in peace), Genie was the defining character of that movie. And, Mystique from the early 90's X-men cartoon was hotter than hot and was a conniving trickster to boot.

Ok, I found the article. There are a few songs I would humbly ask clarification on. Which movie or album did you draw your "Main Title" track from. Same thing with, "Religion", "The Hunt", "The Lotus Eaters", and "The Final Conflict". Also, if you or mister F. Wesley Schneider have any suggestions as to tracks for major characters such as: Vanthus, Rowyn Kellani, Lavinia, Orcus, the Aboleths, the Fallen Angel in Divided's Ire (can't think of his name), maybe something for the troglodytes, or any other good atmospheric songs to heighten the mood.

These have both been great. I never used to read comics, nor listen to audio dramas/novels/radio plays of any kind and I've really enjoyed having my horizons broadened, so thanks! :)


Couple of rule interpretation questions here:

Can you power a lucky/flamboyant weapon with your own personal grit/panache or otherwise restore the weapon's internal reservoir?

The Call Out feat locks an opponent into an duel as per Ultimate Combat. How does this affect allies of the challenged? Are they prevented form intervening? Actually, just how does the feat work in general?

As a DM I've spent the majority of the last 20 years staring at the back of the Gm screen, but I do have a soft spot for some of the older GM screens that depicted a dungeon delve, battle, or other dynamic scenes. The Paizo Iconic GM screens, though beautiful and interesting to look at, to me just don't evoke the same level of intrigue and mystique as some of the older generation D&D screens. Has there been any talk about creating a deluxe GM screen which shows the Iconics in a larger scene? Something along the lines of the artwork for the cover of the Beginner Box, or the chapter opener artwork for the hardcovers? Paizo has fantastic art, and keeps a very high standard across their products, and I feel a DM screen is a fantastic opportunity to showcase that.

Besides, who doesn't want to see a diverse bunch of the Iconics joining forces to overcome some terrible trap or horrific foe spread across 4 panels?

When, approximately, did Osiriani start to replace Ancient Osiriani in Osirion? Would a person who lived around the time the Keleshites invaded Osirion speak the modern variant or the ancient one? Or a transitional form? Actually, was the Keleshite takeover one of the reasons the language started to change into its modern form?

Oooh... I don't remember that exactly, but I do remember putting that soundtrack list together! I suspect it would have been in one of the Dragon Magazine supplement articles... whatever volume came out at the same time as Dungeon #139.

Bonuwat. In a case like this, the Inner Sea World Guide should be the definitive source, since that book is intended to be "ground zero" for information about the setting.

Not familiar with those weapon abilities or feats, so I'm not gonna answer those questions and instead suggest you post them in the proper rules threads so they can be FAQed and actually seen by the designers of those rules.

My favorite RPG outside of Pathfinder is Call of Cthulhu. It, at times, IS my favorite RPG, in fact. I do still get to play it; I'm currently running Horror on the Orient Express, but it's been on hiatus for several months, alas, due to convention season.

Quite uncommon. Uncommon enough that we've never heard of any of that stuff from them yet, while we HAVE heard of other classes. In fact, psychic magic is more common among the aboleths and serpentfolk, two big enemies of Azlant, and as such, I suspect they found psychic magic as distasteful at best and flat-out ENEMY at worst.

Art is subjective. I actually quite prefer the Iconics on a screen, but that's probably because I helped create them. There has been no talk about doing a "deluxe GM screen" that has alternate art other than iconics, but we DO periodically issue new GM screens with new iconics on them. I'll run the idea by management if I remember, though...

The use of Ancient Osiriani began to decline with the end of the first age in –1605. It was still in use during the second age, but by the time THAT age ended in 1490, it was mostly phasing out. The Keleshite Interregnum is what basically caused the split to happen; once Osirion got itself back in 4609, the modern tongue was in full use.

In a roundabout way, I suppose so. I didn't know that mini existed, and I'm pretty sure most of the folks at WotC don't know where the ulitharid came from these days, what with their significant turnover of staff over the past decade.

My brain is too focused on "iconics" being "representative incarnations of a character class" and as such, making them monsters is kinda nonsensical to me and defeats the purpose of it all.

Furthermore, with "monster" covering such a HUGE range of things, from dragons to raccoons, from balors to pixies, from shoggoths to giant spiders... the notion that one thing can be an "iconic monster" doesn't make much sense to me either.

does the human alternate trait DUAL TALENT allow you to apply the +2 to the same stat or does it have to be different ones, by RAW it doesn't explicitly say different stats

Ok, I found the article. There are a few songs I would humbly ask clarification on. Which movie or album did you draw your "Main Title" track from. Same thing with, "Religion", "The Hunt", "The Lotus Eaters", and "The Final Conflict". Also, if you or mister F. Wesley Schneider have any suggestions as to tracks for major characters such as: Vanthus, Rowyn Kellani, Lavinia, Orcus, the Aboleths, the Fallen Angel in Divided's Ire (can't think of his name), maybe something for the troglodytes, or any other good atmospheric songs to heighten the mood.

"Main Title" This was the main title from the soundtrack to "The Final Conflict" (the third Omen movie); used this one a fair amount as the theme for much of the selection.

"Religion": This is from the soundtrack to Naqoyqatsi.

"The Hunt": This is from the soundtrack to "The Final Conflict"

"The Lotus Eaters": This is from the album "Wake" by Dead Can Dance

"The Final Conflict": This is also from the soundtrack to "The Final Conflict."

As for suggestions for tracks for specific characters... that's a great idea but it's not one I can answer without getting my head back into an AP I haven't thought much about for many many years, while also re-listening to the soundtracks we chose for the Dungeon Mix in the first place. A LOT of the music we used for that one was from Jerry Goldsmith soundtracks, and so if you use more of his musical cues they should thematically fit pretty well overall.

I know you hate people posting stuff that aren't questions to you and I apologize for doing so anyway, but you're 100% right. Rules-wise, bonuses from the same source don't stack, even if they're untyped. It was clarified by the PDT in one of their FAQ Fridays, and is ultimately why the paladin's divine grace and the oracle's nature's whispers abilities don't stack.

So. How's creative directing been treating you?

What about other Gamemastery tools? My group makes good use of both the Buff Deck and the Conditions Cards; do you use either of those?
