What do blind people in Golarion read? Is there some equivalent to Braille? I have a blind spell caster in my upcoming game and I didn't think about his spell book until now, was thinking of mahjong tiles, but if you have something somewhere I would dearly love to hear it.

There'd probably be some sort of equivalent to braille, I suppose... but remove blindness is a pretty low level spell...

Or more likely, you'd hire a reader, if you were the sort that could afford one.

But then again, how prevalent is reading anyway? It's not exactly Modern America where education is a presumed universal standard. Which didn't occur until Victorian England and somewhat later in America if I'm not mistaken.

In medieval times, being handicapped quite frankly sucked and generally led to a short and deprived lifespan depending on the handicapp. Braille wasn't developed until 1824, and not finalized as a writing system until 3 years later.

Interestingly enough it was not developed initially for use by the handicapped, but in response to Napolean's demand for demand for a means for soldiers to communicate silently at night and without light. It didn't quite work out for that purpose though. Too hard for the average adult to learn and memorise.

I agree totally, but as a GM, I like the ability to print on demand, such as with the map and handout PDFs. Not having to purchase 4 packs of Item Card Deck X just so all the players can have the Coiled Rope Card seems reasonable enough to me. Further, one could use a simple paint program to alter colors or add effects to items, like making the Red Potion Card into a Green Potion Card, or adding a "glow" to a Long Sword Card, getting the most mileage out of the Deck. Again, just my thoughts as a creative and budget-minded GM, but from your point of view as a designer and Paizo employee, what do you think about that?

A completely unrelated question, have you ever considered creating a Darklands-based (not necessarily against the Drow) AP? If so, would you try and tie it into the surface world so any race could be used as characters or would you base it from start to finish underground, so only Darklands races would be used as characters?

James, I am considering making a house rule that Fighters do not suffer BaB penalty on their iterative attacks. Do you think that this would make Fighter unbalanced compared to other classes?

Nope. It doesn't change the fact that fighters lose out on their multiple attacks at high level if they move, whereas spellcasters don't lose out on their high level spells if they move.

The ways to "fix" the fighter are:

1) Let him have the Vital Strike feat chain for free, and let using a vital strike be a free action so you can mix it with other stuff.

2) Run adventures so that there's a lot more going on in a day, so that the spellcasters are forced to conserve spells and use them tactically rather than going nova—this allows the fighter types to actually enjoy their significant advantage of being able to go all day without having to stop and rest.

For that matter, will we get to learn more about Aboleth society, schemes and so forth at some point? Such as through an AP where they are the main enemies?

There's probably mythic EVERYTHING if we want to tell that story. I'm not gonna say whether there are mythic versions or not until we decide on a story that involves them though.

No rogue veiled masters.

Some day, yes, there'll be more revealed about aboleths.

Golarion is not "medieval times." Reading is relatively prevalent. All classed characters are assumed to be able to read, for example. There's more taken from the ancient world (like Rome) and mythological history (like Atlantis) and the modern day than there is medieval Europe in Golarion.

I think that if you're at the point where you're manipulating images, you probably have a scanner and can scan whatever cards you want. Or if your'e budget-minded, grab PDFs of rulebooks and use the images of items in there for this—they're the same images we use for our item cards.

Yes, I would love to do a Darklands-based AP. We've done several so far that touch on the Darklands (Second Darkness, Serpent's Skull, and Shattered Star), but I'd love to do one that's set entirely in the Darklands and never goes topside at all.

I had to think a bit when you mentioned "canodaemon," and then remembered that's what 3rd edition re-named the arcanadaemon... grumble...

But yeah. Those three monsters showed up in Manual of the Planes in 3rd edition before the Tome of Horrors "rescued" a lot of still-not-reprinted D&D monsters from being closed content. As a result, those daemons are in the same boat as things like grells and hook hororrs—they fell in between WotC's own OGL and the Tome of Horrors, and are thus not open content.

Well, I'd recommend it. First two or three episodes of the first season (blood and sand) aren't very good, but after that it starts hitting its stride and maintains it's quality through the end.

Looking back at it, not only are canodaemons and arcanadaemons different creatures, the canoloth was invented after the 'loth name switch and so there has technically never been a "canodaemon." Oh well.

Why is it that drow are matriarchal on Golarion? In most setting's it's due to Lolth's influence, but Lolth doesn't exist on Golarion and drow are polytheistic demon worshipers, and there are just as many male demonlords as there are female.

If you're using modern firearms, you need new classes. The gunslinger isn't intended to be a modern or futuristic class; it's meant to be a class used in a fantasy setting where guns are either rare or not ubiquitous.

Potential Spoiler:
Considering that modern firearms and equipment are used by some of the foes in the upcoming “Rasputin Must Die!” adventure, will the firearms rules from Ultimate Combat be used as is, tweaked for the adventure setting, or will there be a modern firearms rules blurb in the back of the AP?

Does Unspeakable Futures use the same firearms rules as in Ultimate Combat or are they tweaked/altered for the setting?

Likewise, do you feel that the robots in the Inner Sea Bestiary are usable as is in post-apocalyptic settings (such as UF) or would they need to be tweaked/altered as well?

Sorry for the question wall, but I’m asking because I’d like to use the Pathfinder rule set for a post-apocalyptic science fantasy campaign and I wanted your thoughts on what it would take (i.e. a major headache or a little bit of work), considering you’re familiarity with the genre.

Hmm.

My advice then is Don't.

I know it's legal to build worshipers of evil deities and have them be one step off of evil (in this case, that'd be lawful neutral), but to be honest, we use the evil deities as bad guys ALL THE TIME. That's what they're for. What happens when your inquisitor of Dispater goes on a mission where the plot is "Go into this hidden temple of Dispater and kill the evil vile cultists?" Suddenly, you've got a character who has no reason to go on the adventure, which is kinda lame. Furthermore, even though your character sheet might say "lawful neutral" on it... since in PFS you play with all sorts of different players and GMs it's just a matter of time before you get a player or GM who doesn't want to adventure with a worshiper of an evil deity. The same argument you could make—"It's part of my character to be lawful neutral and worship an evil deity," is the same argument a paladin (or whomever) could make—"It's part of my character to arrest and/or kill worshipers of evil deities, regardless of their claims to be not seeking to do evil."

It causes problems playing an evil-worshiping character in a massively multiplayer offline game, where you can't be assured that the others you'll be playing with are going to go along with your choice and style of play.

My advice would be to instead play an inquisitor of Abadar.

Because I like that nod toward nostalgia.

And because being matriarchal is one of the things that makes drow feel like drow. If we were going to change that much about them... I wouldn't call them drow and they wouldn't be elves.

And because the Abyss is a much more feminine place than masculine, and thus it makes sense for a society that worships demon lords to be matriarchal... just as the opposite holds true for arch devils and Hell. There may be an equal number of male and female demon lords... but the Abyss itself is feminine. The demon lords are led by a VERY feminine demon (Lamashtu), and the most powerful non-full-deity demon lord is ALSO female (Nocticula).

Concerning the spoiler—that's a small enough footprint overall that it's not a big worry.

Unspeakable Futures uses different rules for firearms—the BIGGEST difference is that they don't resolve as touch attacks. That's the realm of beam weapons like lasers. Bullet-shooting guns resolve against normal AC, but have a penetration modifier that allows them to punch through a certain fraction of physical armor.

The robots in the Inner Sea Bestiary are, on the other hand, pretty much exact lifts of the robots from Unspeakable Futures, more or less.

How you end up using the Pathfinder rules for a post-apocalyptic game, though... that's up to you.

I'd much rather do a "hunted" style survival horror adventure where the players get to play their characters, rather than petitioners, which by their definition are NOT player characters.

I'm not a fan of character flaws, unless they're things that DO NOT grant you extra perks.

I'm okay with adding flaws to a PC that overall weakens the PC, but having a character flaw system that grants, say, a bonus feat for your flaw, is in and of itself a flaw in game design. Because no matter what flaw, a good player will be able to minimize or just totally negate that flaw's impact on their character, and suddenly it's like they have a bonus feat for free.

Character flaws are a particularly insidious form of power creep.

Whatever CR you want it to be for the adventure you're writing... although in this particular case, I would advise against high CR. Akatas are low CR creatures, and tying their arrival to a super deadly meteor impact event either wipes the PCs out because it's too deadly, or results in monsters that don't challenge the PCs because the akatas aren't high enough CR to match the super deadly CR of the meteor.
