Dear Mr. Jacobs,

Some randomish questions

1) Is the Kensai Archetype for the Magus tied to any particular region in Golarion?

2) How wide spread are the influences of the Aspis Consortium and the Pathfinder Society relative to each other?

1) Nope. Not yet, at least.

2) While the Pathfinders have a global reach, the Aspis Consortium is pretty much limited to the Inner Sea region. They use allied groups to influence other continental regions.

Yes.

Sorry I was unclear, I was referring to the affected by non damaging spells rules under concentration checks, not the injured while casting rules. It has a DC listed, but nothing on what does and doesn't count as distracting, nor any clarification about when the spell would need to be cast for the check to come up (spells with durations VS. instantaneous).

So, I've worked out what Inquisitors would do for most Gods and Goddesses myself, but one has me stumped. Desna. What kind of inquisitions would this goddess seek out?

Maybe they go after the worshippers of Lamashtu?

I mean those 2 goddess hate each other right? Or is it just Desna hating Lamashtu?

Hello Mr. Jacobs, thanks for keeping this thread going; it's always entertaining!

1) Have you read either of the Achtung! Cthulhu adventures published thus far? If so, how are they?

2) What is your favorite edition of Gamma World?

Thanks!

This is a very weird question. Also, since I actually have never watched Voltron-related entertainment, I'll say that I do not understand the property well enough to give an informed answer.

Sorry, sometimes what sounds hilarious in my head doesn't translate to the page haha

Have you seen the manga/anime Hellsing?

If so, what do you think Alucard's CR would be?

Dear Mr. JJ,

Can a Cleric who worships a deity with the Chaos domain in said god's portfolio (such as Cayden Cailean) take the Separatist archetype to grant access to the Whimsy subdomain?

Thanks!

So, I'm going through Faiths of Purity trying to find a suitable deity for a player who'll be rolling a paladin for my upcoming campaign, and I notice that under Apsu's entry it mentions that he doesn't grant spells and therefore has no clerics or paladins.

Now, if my player expresses interest in him as a deity, I plan on simply ignoring that, but I was curious as to what the reasoning behind it was, both from a story and gameplay perspective.

Unless a spell causes damage (either hp or ability score or level drain or the like) or causes a legitimate physical effect (black tentacles or gust of wind or telekinesis), then you don't need to concentrate on the spell to make it work.

Note that some spells, like confusion or hold person or power word stun pretty much AUTO stop you from casting long casting-time spells... not because you have to make a concentration check, but because the spell's effect shuts you down.

An inquisitor of Desna would be about rooting out the influence of demons and the Great Old Ones from the world. Her inquisitors are probably the most like fantasy-versions of Call of Cthluhu investigators.

I've seen one of them, I believe. And most anime characters would have mythic levels in something. As to what CR Alucard would be... I couldn't say. Probably high... although I'd also be tempted to stat him up as a PC since that's kinda his role, in which case CR doesn't matter.

Up to your GM.

Were I your GM, I'd make that decision based on the deity. I could see Cayden granting the Whimsy subdomain in some cases.

That's a complete error. Apsu grants spells. His domains are even listed in the Inner Sea World Guide (although there's an unfortunate error there)...

His domains granted area Artifice, Good, Law, Scalykind, and Travel.

In fact, the fact that Apsu can grant spells is one of the reasons I devoted one of the two new domains introduced in that book to Scalykind.

Apsu, in other words, grants spells SO HARD that I had to write new rules for granting spells.

A lot of money and downtime. I'd wait for Ultimate Campaign to come out to tackle a project like this.

Unfortunately my group has already taken it upon themselves to fix it up. But that's what I figured was a lot of both money and downtime, neither of which they really have at this point, so that's good.

Howdy, Mr. T-Rex!

1) Did the Thassilonians of Xin-Bakrakhan (or their Azlanti forerunners) discover fleshwarping before Haagenti gifted it to the drow?

2) Is there anything similar to the French Foreign Legion in the Inner Sea?

Thanks and have a good Friday.

Mendevian Crusades are pretty similar in some ways.

I'm also waiting for Ultimate Campaign. First book in a long time that I'm really excited about!

Going well, if slowly; we're about halfway through the 2nd adventure, during the course of which my character, Sasha Dracktus, was not only robbed by a harlot (who she then made her First Mate after she foolishly tried to rob her ship), but ended up getting hitched in the last session.

We were supposed to play tonight, but Rob had to cancel the game, alas.

1) Magical research, combined (most likely) with gifts of knowledge from Haagenti as well.

2) Nothing comes immediately to mind.

I've loved the kingdom building rules for a long time, so I dunno if that counts. I do quite like how the downtime system works, and the rules for young characters have been a long time coming.

Mr Jacobs.

I understand that you enjoy your Cthulhu mythos. Have you played in any published CoC campaigns? If so, do you have a favorite?

Also, I am a bit fed up with the swedish winter at the moment. Do you have any idea when the spring will arrive?

I've been playing Call of Cthulhu since 1984 or thereabouts. I'm normally running the game—the one I had the most fun running, hands down, was "Beyond the Mountains of Madness," although a long campaign of my own devising set in the Gaslight era that ended one session early when an investigator accidentally catapulted the British Isles back in time to the dawn of Earth's birth was pretty fun too. My favorite published game that I played in was "Horror on the Orient Express."

Spring? It can take its time, as far as I'm concerned.

James, quick old school AP conversion question - 3.5 EL, how does that transition to current PF CR as a whole? Is it 1 for 1?

Cori Marie wrote:

I've not thought about ELs for 7 some years.

But there's no reason to simply convert an EL ever. If you have an encounter, you know what you need to do and what CR you need to make it, regardless of the original 3.5 adventure's EL assignment. On top of that, EL didn't really even mean anything at all—it was just a numerical value you could glance at to know the challenge rating of the encounter, after all.

When converting a 3.5 adventure, convert the encounter and ignore the EL number, because you don't need that number ever. The act of converting the encounter gives you that encounter's CR.

So, I was flipping through one of the AP bestiaries and I noticed the Hell Gigas. Now, these guys seemed interesting, but there doesn't seem to be much on their kind. How many of these guys have you printed and can we expect more?

Dear Mr. Jacobs,
I would like a couple of clarifications about the Intimidate skill, specifically the "demoralize" action.

- Fight scenario - PC Adam against NPC Bob: Adam goes first, tries to demoralize Bob, beats the DC by 10; Bob is shaken for 3 rounds. Next round: Adam tries again to demoralize Bob, beats the DC by 2.

First question: is Bob shaken for one MORE round (effectively extending the total duration of the shaken condition from 3 to 3+1 rounds) or is the 1 round shaken condition kind of "absorbed" by being already in place due to the first successful demoralizing action (thus keeping the total duration of the shaken condition at 3 rounds)?

Second question: should the -5 penalty from "try again" apply to Adam's second attempt at demoralizing, or does such penalty apply only when the character fails the previous attempt?

Third (related) question: do the answers to the above two questions also apply when using the Dazzling Display feat?

Thank you very much.

Who gave the Sellen River its name? (I assume Taldor a gazillion years ago?)

More importantly, WHY did that society name it "Sellen"? What is the etymology?

Was it the name of a tribe of indigenous people, the name of the Taldoran who discovered just how big it is, the first Taldoran merchant lord to take advantage of it?... Or was it perhaps named by ancient Numerian Kellids? Or maybe it was named from ancient Pre-Taldoran Verduran peoples?...

From where did the name come?

The name's history and all that is unrevealed—at this point it's just a made-up word that we invented to name the river. I believe it would have either been Erik or Jason who came up with the name; they might know more about it, but it's not one I invented so I don't have any insights into its history.

Eureka! He's a genius :3

Prinny Petitioner : Native Outsider - (SQ) Unstable : a Prinny that takes more than 1 point from falling damage, while getting Bull Rushed or Tripped, or from a creature using the Awesome Blow Feat explodes, dealing its remaining hit points in fire damage to all creatures in a 10ft radius, reflex save for half. Special: other Prinnies caught in the explosion automatically explode, no save.

Mr. James Jacobs,

We are one session away from finishing Rise of the Runelords! lords lords lords... Next we will be doing shattered star and with it we will be using the mythic playtest and eventually transition to the final version when it comes out.

It has been established that mythic characters would have the option to grant spells to followers. Since we are using the playtest for the time being at what tier would you suggest someone being able to grant spells assuming their mythic power is divine in nature?

To represent his cult I was thinking about using the leadership feat with them being various kinds of divine spell castors.
