I have no idea. I'm pretty much not involved in Starfinder at all.

Well, that aside, just wanted to let you know that we loved the AP, especially the great slow introductions of several of the major enemies. Many memorable friends and foes, and a very unique party by the end of the story. Wonderful clues to life on other planets and struggles beyond Golarion as well.

How do elves regard dragons? If I'm making an elfy Dragon Disciple, I don't really know how such a character would come to be.

Also, while on the topic of Dragon Disciples, is there any major difference between Dragon Disciples who enter the class from a bloodline-based class (Sorcerer and Bloodrager), and other spontaneous arcane spellcasters for whom their magic isn't necessarily from their DNA (like the Bard and Skald)? I've got a friend who says he doesn't "get" why bards can enter that prestige class so quickly.

The Concordance

If someone asks a question that gets skipped over, should we presume it was skipped on accident and re-ask, or would you rather those people just quietly go away?

(this question asked with 0 malice - just honest curiosity)

Depends on the elf. There's not a generalized elf/dragon relationship in the game.

There's no difference between various classes getting into the class.

That means that I just missed the question and it should be re-asked. If someone asks a question I don't want to answer or can't answer, I'll say so and explain why I can't/won't answer.

James, the book Lands of Conflict talks a bit about one General Lord Vernus Liocarcinus (LG male human aristocrat 2/inquisitor 9). I don't suppose you happen to know who he's an inquisitor of by any chance?

Thanks in advance!

I have no idea; I wasn't involved in the creation of Lands of Conflict. Judging from his alignment, though, which should mean that he's from Molthune, I'd say his most likely deity would be Iomedae or Erastil, the two LG deities listed as having influence in Molthune (see page 122 of the Inner Sea World Guide). Since he's also an aristocrat, that suggests to me that he's an inquisitor of Iomedae, since I associate worshipers of Erastil with the rural side of things.

And it's only 9:38 PM here on the west coast... I usually don't head to bed until around 1:00 in the morning so I've got lots of time left to freelance or watch Unsolved Mysteries on Amazon Prime or play video games or answer questions here!

AKA: Yes, absolutely, I'm a night owl.

Are you familiar with the historical fantasy novel The Enterprise of Death, by Jesse Bullington?

(If not I recommend it, on the basis of the fact that it's a lot of fun, a good yarn, and its central protagonist is a Moorish lesbian necromancer)

Never heard of it, but as awesome as it sounds it's unlikely to go onto my reading list anytime soon since my shelf's full of horror novels and books that I've yet to read...

Are there ways Draconic sorcerers/Dragon Disciples can come into existence that DON'T involve one of your great-grandparents having a one-night stand with an actual dragon?

Yes—anything you can imagine. One good place to look for inspiration is to superhero or supervillain origin stories for inspiration, but to replace the catalyst that granted super powers with a dragon-themed one instead.

Any chance yellow, orange & purple dragons ever make it into a bestiary?

Morally what is the main difference between the Glorious Reclamation and the Cult of the Dawnflower? They're both willing to take down decadent empires through violence and have been disowned by their main churches.

From general to specific questions, but they're all fundamentally the same.

What (generically) is the relationship between demons and devils in Golarion? What about their followers?

For example, how are demons and demon-worshippers treated by Thrune? Do they fall under the "faiths in opposition to the Church of Asmodeus", or are they more accepted?

In Cheliax, would there be any difference between a follower of Calistria versus, say, Nocticula if they weren't being overt about it?

The Glorious Reclamation is more about regaining what they think the church lost when the church isn't ready to regain what they lost, whereas the Cult of the Dawnflower is more about wanting more than the church already has in ways the church doesn't want.

Demons and devils are not at war, but they don't get along due to the differences in chaos vs. law. They generally leave each other alone, knowing that the more time they in theory spend bickering and fighting with each other, the less time they have to prey upon mortal souls.

Demons and demon worshiping would be treated the same way in Cheliax as it would in any other civilization; as an illegal danger.

There's a difference between worshipers of Calistria and Nocticula in that worshipers of Nocticula, being evil, are more likely to not find aid from the oppressed folk of Cheliax, whereas a worshiper of Calistria could expect to find aid and support.

I probably should have been more clear on the third part; I meant the difference in regards to reactions by the government - but the question is basically answered as far as I'm concerned. Thanks!

Are there any planes of existence where time moves significantly faster? For example, is there a place a high level eccentric elven mage (with access to gate) could hunker down an train an elf child to maturity while only 1-3 years passed on Golarion? (It seems like the First World might be a likely candidate and if I recall correctly the artifact Kakishon from Legacy of Fire would also serve this purpose)

Suppose somebody used the evidence from the Arkona's vault (CotCT, p.172) to impersonate the family and call in all the debts (and then turn it over to the Korvosan Guard)? How much money would they get? Over what period of time?

Which one of the Gods do you think would have the best parties (like a house party, not party of adventurers)? My money is either on Cayden since he can supply the best drinks or Shelyn because of great music.

There likely are, but the complications that would create for game play means it's not something we should do anything with. It's basically time travel, and that means it's an entirely different genre that's not supported by our setting or rules. Best left to the individual GM to include if they want.

Up to the GM to decide that. Something like that's beyond the scope of the adventure, and how much money the PCs can get, and how much trouble they'll face from angry thieves, is left to the GM to determine as how best such things would impact the campaign.

I pretty much hate parties, so I'm probably the WORST person to ask that at Paizo. I'd say probably Groetus, since as the god of empty places, parties he throws would have no one at them. Whew.

Hi there!

My players (there are 3) and I (the DM) are going to start the AP Kingmaker (first AP we play, we usually make up our own adventures).
So basically they want to create their PCs by the purchase system with 25 points, to choose between almost any race (except noble drow and a couple more) and any class (multiclass of course), and to get 2 traits plus de AP trait.

What is your opinion about it?? Is it too much of a change?

Dear Mr. Jacobs,

Is there a difference between Spell Type and Spell Descriptor? I'm attempting to create my first ever primary spellcaster and am getting a bit confused with different Sorcerer bloodlines like Efreeti and Elemental respectively referring to a change in Spell Descriptor and change in a spell's type.

Also (and far more importantly)...Do you know the Muffin Man??

A spell descriptor is a (usually) one-word phrase that gives a key word for a spell, like acid, fire, evil, light, or mind-affecting, that then sets that spell up in that category.

"Spell type" isn't a rules term.

So the difference is that one is a rule, the other is just language.

If you meant "energy type" in there instead of spell type, then the difference is that a spell descriptor is a keyword that categorizes a spell into a category, whereas energy type is merely a type of energy (acid, cold, electricity, fire, or sonic, for example) that inflicts damage of that type of energy.

Usually a spell's descriptor syncs up with the type of energy damage it does, but not always.

The muffin man is part of the reason I got fat. He can take his delicious carbohydrates and take a long walk off a short pier as far as I'm concerned.

Cool thanks - I'm starting to wrap my head around descriptors...

With spell type, I was more trying to understand what it means when something like the Sorcerer's Elemental Bloodline Arcana mentions spell type in the second sentence: "Whenever you cast a spell that deals energy damage, you can change the type of damage to match the type of your bloodline. This also changes the spell’s type to match the type of your bloodline." I just wasn't sure if it was meant to be spell descriptor or something else.

Playing casters doesn't come naturally to me, but if I'm going to play a comically CN pastiche of Aku from Samurai Jack, I figured why not try to two birds with one stone and attempt to learn casters a bit at the same time :)

I empathise - I'll find that muffin-b*stard one day :P

Have you gotten a good look at the latest edition of Call of Cthulhu?

Is the door open for more Paizo/Chaosium cooperation in the future?

Who are your top five non-Lovecraft authors who've contributed to the Mythos?

I've noticed that most people I know who love kaiju also love Lovecraft, despite most similarities between the two broader genres being largely cosmetic until quite recently... does your own experience match this?

Hi James,

A very good look. I jumped on the Kickstarter in the first hours after it was announced at Gen Con and have had the chance to sit down and chat with some of the talented folks who worked on it even. I've run a few games using the rules as well and I'm still figuring them out but they seem to be quite fun so far.

The door is absolutely open.

Ramsey Campbell, Clark Ashton Smith, Robert E. Howard, T. E. D. Klein, and Sandy Petersen.

It does. I'm a huge fan of kaiju (I'm pretty much the reason they're in Pathfinder), and have been a Godzilla fan since BEFORE I knew about Lovecraft. In fact, I'm pretty sure Godzilla is the reason why I like monsters so much. Godzilla was the movie that launched the tradition of my dad and I staying up to midnight on Saturday to watch Creature Features. I had to be about 6 years old at the time, I think, and the excitement of staying up late to watch a movie with my dad kinda ended up making me fall in love with Godzilla and monsters. In a way, that viewing of Godzilla is why I'm doing what I do today; had I not watched Godzilla that night, Pathfinder would be a very very different game... if indeed it existed at all!

Many, many times. I've signed a LOT of them... usually just on the inside cover, but I think I have perhaps signed a few on Chapter 12 (which is the chapter I wrote the most of).

1) It varies. On some planets, fey are the only things that exist. On other planets, no fey exist at all. And on some, like Earth, whether or not they exist is a matter of superstition and speculation. AKA: It's wide open for you as the GM to decide what works best for any one planet of your choice.

2) None of the Lovecraftian deities are fey.

3) It's unlikely. The thing with the elder mythos deities is that they're really Material Plane denizens... or in a few rare cases like Yog-Sothoth, multidimensional entities who are still focused on the Material Plane.

Ghlaunder never really had a big role in my homebrew; he was something I invented in a short story I wrote back in college called "Feast of Ravenmoor." I ended up transitioning him into my campaign world but never got around to building much up about him, but had I done more, he would have absolutely ended up being involved in Desna's story in the same way he ended up in Golarion.

My favorite evil deity of the Forgotten Realms is Moander, because of how it combines a Lovecraftian element with nature in a really creepy, spooky way.

There's some Ashava stuff in the Magnimar book. She's my favorite Empyreal Lord, but I've not yet had a chance or place to have her faith play a larger role yet other than the Magnimar book which was sort of her intro to the setting. Wes invented her name in the article he did on Magnimar in Pathfinder #2 but there's not a lot of info about her there.

Not sure what your asking re: curry pairing. Something to drink with it? Something to make out of it? And I'm confused by the shift from "soda and snack food" to "curry" which is more in the category of meal in my brain than soda or snack...
