Heh, looks cheesy. And when I saw him throw that car around, I had to think of "Life After People" (which I just watched recently), too.

True, but it was 1980. We were innocent. And enjoyed that cartoon immensely. =)

Then again the event could have caused all the humidity to get sucked away, thus turning the planet into one giant state of Montana. Nothing rusts there from what I've been told.

Well, we are specifically going for "Post-Apocalypse Science Fantasy" -- I don't think anyone should expect realistic depiction of environmental effects on structures, etc.

I mean, if you're going realistically, the Statue of Liberty at the end of "Planet of the Apes" should've been an unrecognizable pile of moldering copper plates, if even that -- it's been 2000 years, and the statue is within the high-tide littoral zone of the Atlantic Ocean. Salt + Water + Nuclear Fallout + 2000 years = not a recognized landmark.

But the sight of the ruined statue is COOL. So they went with it.

That's our guiding principle here -- Is it cool? Then we do it. The key word is fantasy.

When will you be revealing some sneak peeks, Gareth?

I'm on board with this kind of reasoning.

Dark Archive

I can live with that. Though to be honest there are exceptions to the laws of nature. Such as the people sacrificed in the bogs that have been found in recent times seeming to have been killed days before instead of several hundreds. Regardless if it works go with it, I'm not going to turn it down due to a few unrealistic inaccuracies.

Not specifically related to the game, but of interest to folks who like the genre, like me:

Warner Brothers have announced that they'll be selling a 4-disc DVD set of the complete series of THUNDARR THE BARBARIAN, as part of their "manufacture-on-demand" program via their webstore.

It isn't up for sale yet, but should be available next week:

The news posted here on TVShowsOnDVD.com.

Oooohhh... a post-apocalyptic, Thundarr the Barbarian-style PF setting.

That's pretty darn neat... and sounds really cool... heh heh I'm waxing nostalgic for the '80s now. (Or at least decent Saturday Morning Cartoons.)

Keep us posted.

Dean (TMW)

Gareth-Michael Skarka,

Thanks for the information.

Will this rulebook be standalone (with rules on skills, feats, combat, etc.) or do I need the PF rulebook to play? Thanks!

Dark Archive

You'll need the PF Core book at least. Stand alone would be nice, but would go against the PF license.

Well that is to assume that nobody was maintaing thing after the cataclysm. One theory I have heard for why somethings remained in such good condition is that perhaps not everything collapsed at the same rate. Take the train that the lizard men had for example. It's pretty clear that someone either maintained the tracks until fairly recently or that they had been restored by someone with at least some technical knowledge. The whole point of life after people is that nobody is around maintaining anything, which is not the case in Thunddar.

Thanks dm4hire. Really wish it were self contained, but I'll get it anyway.

looks good, can't wait to see some preview images and whatnot

Same here, my book bag is getting heavy as it is with all the stuff I have for Pathfinder in it. I appreciate the quality and work Paizo puts into their products, but the corebooks being able to double as doorstops really puts the old back out of sorts. I keep hoping for pocket versions. I may have to break down and get a tablet or ebook device.

The nice thing is that we have less than two months now and the book (PDF at least) will be available, as long as nothing holds it up. Hope the previews show up soon.

Hey Gareth and/or Walt,

I'm a big pen and paper fan, and Post-Apoc has been one of my favorite universes (behind Star Wars...where my fanboy-dom can never quite be too dimmed). I got hooked on Darwin's World just over this past summer and I was wondering if you could tell me how WotA would compare to it?

Unfortunately I have absolutely no idea what Thundarr is...so was wondering if you could perhaps describe it in laymen's terms =P

(Just for anybody who knows nil about Darwin's World)

DW uses modern d20 system and goes for a grim/gritty/realistic, fully-nuked out world with mature themes(raiders, world is primarily barren wasteland w/ radioactive sandstorms, merciless pillage, etc.)

<crosses fingers>

Wondering if we'll see a preview any time soon given the pending finalization of this next month?

</crosses fingers>

Definately looking forward to seeing this on my FLGS shelf. I love Post Apoc style games. While I have personally gravitated towards the Mad Max Genre (Morrow Project, Aftermath!, Twilight 2000) I was also a BIG Gamma World / Metamorphosis Alpha junkie back in the day!!

Never was a big fan of Thundarr. Just never got into it. Nothing wrong with it, just not my generation. Now, the Herculoids, now yer talking!

Still, love the concept and I'm definately a fan of no cards! This is on the list before the New Gamma World.

BRING IT!!

Well doh never noticed this thread before. I just posted the OP's info on the product thread... oh well.

I loved Gamma World back in the day and this sounds similar so i am looking forward to it.

I do have a question, will there be a print/PDF bundle option sold here on paizo?

Hmmm this is very intesting. I have been working on a campaign set in the world of the Dark Tower Series for a long time now.

Have you looked at the Zen Archer Monk variant in the Advanced Players Guide? When i saw it i immediately thought "if this used revolvers instead of a bow, it would be a gunslinger".

Flurry of blows with a bow! Ki powers to make you shoot better! Ignore concealment, cover, and even shoot around corners!!!!

Gunslinger is the one thing i dont need covered elsewhere, I've created my own base class for it. But i will still take a look and see if theres anything i want to cherry pick. I can always add more talents to my gunslinger class.

I would like to see this if I may...

Wow, I had completely missed this thread also.

I love post-apoc, and synchronistically, i just saw the new Gamma World box set, picked it up, flipped it over, stopped when I saw "cards" and "Booster packs" and put it down...

Atomic Highway looks cool, but a Pathfinder Post-Apoc setting sounds pretty awesome!!!

Shadow Lodge

Interesting...very interesting. I think I might just need it.

Well I did the pre-order do we have any idea of a release date yet?

Thank you for the pre-order!

We are probably a hair behind schedule right now (a week or two at most) -- expect the pre-orders to ship in early December, and the game to hit stores before Christmas.

If someone preorders form Paizo do they get the free PDF as well or is that only on your site?

I would also like to know the answer to Dark_Mistress' question.

Is Warlords of the Apocalypse going to include Character Traits?

Any idea when the PDF will be available to the public? Or if anyone has the PDF, if they could give us a quick review? I'm intrigued by the book and would like to know more :)

Hmmm... as Halloween was the last post from the folks at Adamant, they must be burning the midnight oil to get Warlords of the Apocalypse finished.

I considered a pre-order, but I wanted to get a bit more of a preview before hand. I'm looking forward to a review. A preview of something would go a long way to winning me over into the pre-order camp. Any chance?

-Ben.

Exactly -- we're in the home stretch, and are really concentrating on getting this right.

Sorry about the lack of previews as a result -- we'll certainly understand if that effects people's desire to pre-order.

Grand Lodge

any word on PDFs? I have sworn off dead tree versions whenever possible.

Awesome, I have been waiting, not so,patiently for a game like this one for awhile now.

I would also like to know if my pre order at Paizo will give me the pdf and bonus adventure

Likewise. That the question has been asked and still not answered in two separate threads about this product is making me a little worried though.

This looks very cool, but the "best of all: no card-gaming element added" sounds a little mean.

I like WHFRP 3rd with all its action cards, etc.

Yeah that's why i have not preordered yet. Not knowing the answer of the question is keeping me from pulling the trigger on this product so to speak. Hopefully someone eventually lets us know.

I just want previews!!!

Please.

Theres only one more day untill the end of Nov...
any news on the PDF's or release date of the book?
thanks

likewise...i await it's release with baited breath...

I've been half curious about this as well and now have been catching up on some pertinent threads after a bit of an absence and was curious about its status. Seeing that you've leashed an itchy trigger finger makes my eyebrow raise a little as well. =)

To be honest, this question has been hanging long enough that I suspect that the answer is "No, but we don't want to scare off potential customers by admitting it".

I'm not going to cancel my Paizo preorder regardless, but I'm certainly going to be more leery of further supporting Adamant if the worst case scenario I'm now expecting due to the ongoing silence does eventuate.

Well I like having a PDF for easy of reference during the week. But prefer a book to read and run a game from. So I would like both. I prefer to order from Paizo to support them. But since I can't get a answer on if the deal works here or not, I am waiting. This is a bit more than a impulse buy.

Liberty's Edge

I preordered Icons direct from Adamant and was happy with the results. I also liked the bennies you got (additional stuff only available through preorder). Since my last preorder with them was positive, I preordered Warlords of the Apocalypse yesterday.

Dark Archive

I'll be happy if it's still on target for mid Dec.

If you go to Adamant's website for this you will see that they say the PDF is "NOT AVAILABLE ELSEWHERE", caps are mine. So I would feel pretty sure to say that you only get the PDF's by pre ordering from them.

Fortunately Adamant puts pretty reasonable prices on their PDF's. Hopefully they will continue to do so.

Thanks for the Info the first time I checked their page a month or so ago. I didn't see it saying that.

I was afraid of that, given the silence. I'd consider it to be pretty poor form on their part though. If Paizo is offering preorders and they're advertising free PDFs with preorders on Paizo's site, I'd assume I'd get the PDF with a Paizo preorder unless they specified otherwise in the advertisement.

Actually, that's exactly what I did, and why I preordered at all. I'd never considered that it might be a site exclusive offer for another site until Dark_Mistress brought up the question.

Not to get anyone's hopes up, but here's a copy and paste from Adamant's Store:

"Warlords of the Apocalypse will ship to stores in December. The Pre-Order of Warlords of the Apocalypse is available for $39.99 plus $7.95 shipping and handling. Pre-order customers will receive a copy of the game, and will also receive a complimentary advance PDF copy when the file is sent to the printer in November, and will also receive an exclusive PDF adventure written by Gareth-Michael Skarka, not available elsewhere!"

The "not available elsewhere!" refers to the exclusive PDF adventure, not the main book.

That being said, on Paizo's product page for WotA, Paizo has stated that as of yet, they don't have the PDF.

I'm thinking that Adamant is running a little behind schedule. They'll probably post here when WotA is heading to the printer.

I love P.A. and have been following this since I first heard about it, BUT with zero previews (at least from what I have seen/heard) and minimal info I'm hesitant to preorder. Even a simple list of some of the races/classes that will be in it would help, that would at least give me a feel for what the game is about. A table of contents? Something...

I agree that Adamant puts out some good stuff, Icons is great, its not that I'm worried the product will be poor, as much as, will the product be what I'm looking for?
Thanks,
W.
