Adimarchus' (Demonic) Tentacles

Shackled City Adventure Path

The demonic form of Adimarchus has the following listed under the Attack entry:

Attack: +42 melee (2d6+23/17–20 plus special, Ashen Blade) and +34 melee (1d6+6 plus 1d4 negative levels, 4 tentacles)

A single strike with the blade in addition to all four tentacles? Seems like it should be a single attack with either the Blade or a tentacle. Am i missing something?

Would you rather it be +42/+37/+32/+27 for a full attack with the Ashen Blade?

Really, it's just a primary attack and 4 secondary attacks (think of how a dragon attacks, Bite/Claw/Claw/Wing/Wing/Tail, and this makes a lot of sense). Also, a 20th (or higher) level party would chew him up and spit him out faster if he weren't so tough. This is a hard encounter, and this is just the tip of the iceberg with this great demon lord.

I hope this helps.

This is not a question of whether or not Adimarchus is challenging enough, it's a basic rules question. When he makes a Full Attack action, he would indeed attack at the rate you list above. . .in addition to his 4 tentacle attacks. I'm asking specifically about his Attack entry, not Full Attack. My impression of the 3.5 rules, after DMing up to 19th level, is that you only get a single attack under the Attack entry. Thus, Adimarchus' 4 tentacles would seem in violation of the basic rules governing Attacks / Full Attacks.

Correct?

Correct?

That is usually correct, yes.

Since both the Attack and Full Attack routines are printed separately, I'd wager that Adimarchus, being a unique Demon Prince and all, is able to always attack with all of his tentacles even if he's taking a standard action to attack. The statblock really should mention that somewhere, though, but that is how I'd play it.

Yeah, i was sort of hoping that the flavor text would mention his tentacles acting independent of the rest of his attacks or something similar, but no such luck.

Color me purple... doublechecking now... You're right, I had mis-recalled this. I thought the full attack was the ashen blade once and the 4 tentacles.

Yes, he's probably got some ability similar to Pounce with those tentacles (allowing all to strike regardless of a full or standard attack). Nothing in the stat block either...

Sorry for not doublechecking before I posted above.
