Silly Jade. That's not how Nielsen works. They take the ratings of all the shows watched by the very, very, very rich and then cancel the rest. Why do you think The Bachelor/ette is so popular? It's the eHarmony for the ultra-rich!

They already had access to everything in your Facebook, and have had for quite awhile. It's the Church of Scientology and the United Nations that are really odd. The others just are trying to control our lives by selling us stuff (something I've grown accustomed to).

Really? Dern. I got to be a Nielsen family once.
Now that people have cable or satellite TV, can't they just suck the relevant data they need? As Modera mentioned, so many companies have our basic info now and know where we are and how much we report earning... seems like the ratings numbers could just be automated. Or would that be a problem because we'd have to admit and reconcile with the fact that there's less privacy these days?

My FB is in pseudonymous and points to a gmail addy under a second pseudonym. Heh.
Meh my Email is common knowledge and its my alternate one anyway..as for the rest I have no private details on any profile
They are welcome to my profile details.
Facebook contains only one sensitive peice of data about me, which is my data of birth. It doesn't even contain my full name.
The email adress is my public span dump adress and everything else is simply related to my music, book and comic taste.
And frankly i could care less if these groups know things about me, because frankly all they are going to learn from the infomation there included is that save in the case of the BBC, i'm not really a potential customer and am unlikely to be swayed by attempts to market too me.

Having had a read through the material on this subject. What facebook is talking about is an opt in system. You have to specifically choose to involve yourself in the market research that they are undertaking in partnership with Nielsen.
They arn't selling anyones personal data, people are choosing to give it away...
