I think the repeated unavailability was due to one of the servers needing a kick, which it has now received. You may still see the "temporarily unavailable" message if we have a lot of traffic today, but it shouldn't be a constant occurrence like it has been this morning.
I just had a mental image of Gary giving a server a 'kick' ala Inception lol.

This is basically a performance-related problem. If an instance of the website detects that it's been taking too long to respond to requests, it will temporarily restrict access to the messageboards. Once the instance determines that its response time is within guidelines then it re-enables messageboards. Right now this unavailable period shouldn't be more than sixty seconds at the most, though under extreme traffic loads it can be longer.
The new code I'm working on should be much better about this sort of thing, and I hope to roll it out soon, possibly as early as next week.

The messageboards have been driving me frickin' nuts today. They're up, they're down, ad infinitum. What the heck?
Pretty much everyone I know who goes on these forums has been complaining too. Its been more unavailable than available, I have to try and post a message about 4 times before it takes on average.

Does that include the publisher uploader for PDFs? I've been unable to access that since about Wednesday?

Amusingly enough, I opened this thread and got messageboards unavailable. But yesterday, I had to abandon my paizo site experience all together because of the sluggishness, slowly and then downright unavailableness of the whole site. Dunno what was going on, but it was making everything hard to use.

Frustrating in the extreme. When the nostore or "messageboards are temporarily unavailable" messages don't show, the error I end up getting is:
"Error 310 (net::ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS): There were too many redirects."
Not sure if that's related to the problem, but considering I haven't seen anyone else post it in the threads regarding the outage, I figured it might be useful to know...

I got that yesterday, but only when using Google Chrome.
