God hates kittens

That's freaking classic!!!

PWNED!

I didn't know about the counter protest or we woulda been out there with some signs as well...

It's so great when folks retaliate to these nutters in such a good humored and clever way.

Look madness and hate in the eyes with a smile. >:)

Shadow Lodge

Ah, the classic "Satan's Cake is a Lie!" meme...

Liberty's Edge

Okay, my geekiness was at its supreme today as I sat there laughing for a good 10 minutes at the sign "God Needs a Starship".

Silver Crusade

I'm going to try and organize a mass Fred Rogers Impersonator flash mob the next time they claim they're coming to my town(provided they actually show up).

Positive energy all around.

I saw a slew of these the other day and was highly amused. For obvious reasons to some of you, the first photo in the link at the beginning of this thread was my favorite. XD

Scarab Sages

Seems those church folks first mistake was letting people know ahead of time they'd be showing up. It gave the Con-folks time to prepare. Although I don't think it would have made too much of a difference in the long run. Still, that was awesome!

The Exchange

The best sign ever is the guy wearing the Star Fleet Uniform with the sign saying "G~d hates Jedi."

I think Jesus should have gone over and stood with the other side, with bender. If you can beat them join them and make them look stupid.

Um "Buddy Jesus" was with the Bender side.

Everybody should be on Team Bender.

Silver Crusade

Fittingly, I didn't notice Spy holding the "God Hates Sentries" sign until now.

He totally should have snuck in amongst the Phelpsians with a paper-mask on with a subtly subversive sign at some point.

That's ten tons of awesome.

Nostalgia Chick at the protests

Another few pics

I loved the one about how Superman died for our sins. He seems like a nice boy. Wouldn't want his sacrifice to go to waste.

Dark Archive

Does anyone else find it odd that these people that are walking around with signs saying god hates America, America is doomed and Land of the cowards are then wearing an American flag?

It's because they are the true patriots fighting to save our glorious nation from the evils within it, slowly draining away all that is good and decent. *eyeroll*

I wonder if any of them could be persuaded away, or if they are completely closeminded and unreachable.

There was a documentary about them here in the UK - in essence they are just one extended family, indoctrinated into hate from birth. they are not really allowed friends outside the family, and it is also made clear to them that, if they abandom the "path" that Jesus has set them on, they will be dead to their family - it leaves them totally isolated, and knowing tyhat there is nowhere to go if they leave

when the doc was made, he spoke to some of the kids, it was clear they were, effectivley, forced into the lifestyle, they questioned it but didn't know how to get out

I know the the WBC have been refused entry to the UK in the past

Are you referring to Louis Theroux?

Letter from Fred Phelps' son to the Topeka Capital-Journal.:

I believe in God and the Bible, and my father's behavior doesn't fit the description of behavior that would show in the life of one who loves God; behavior characteristics such as Love, Joy, Peace, Longsuffering, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, Self-control. Instead, my father's behavior characterizes, I believe, Hate, Outbursts of Wrath, Contention, Jealousy, Vengefulness, Misery, Harshness, and Selfish ambition. He mis-states the truth about his own behavior, about others, about the Bible, with apparent ease and regularity. He behaves with a viciousness the likes of which I have never seen. He accepts no genuine accountability in his life and is subject to no one. His lifestyle betrays the sacred trust of what a pastor, husband, father and grandfather should be. I suppose if a comparison were made between the life of Jesus Christ and my father, there would not be much to compare.
I believe that Topekans are making a good effort to try and stop him and should continue to do so. He can seem very intimidating. He can use foul language and come across with a booming voice to the community, but the truth is, like the Wizard of Oz, when Toto pulls the curtain back, instead of this big powerful individual, it's only a small, pathetic old man. I feel sorry for my father as I would for anyone who displays this kind of hate and evil viciousness. These can only be the manifestations of tortured, injured and agonizing souls."

Yeah, it happened right after they announced they were a-heading to England to protest some showing of the Laramie Project, based on the death of Matt Shepard whose funeral they already protested.

I still think it was a wasted opportunity. If England had waited until the last moment to bar entry into their country we could have done the same before they made it back. C'est la vie.

Good on him. I had no idea any of Freddie's immediate family lived outside the clutches of his cult. Here's hoping he can pull some more of his family out of that mire.

Fred also has a son, Nate, who got out of the quagmire and is currently an atheist.

OK hold on,

This is my official rise to the defense of lawyers post.
If it wern't for lawyers I would be unable to drive today. I got caught in a very slick speed trap in western VA when the speed limit changed from 70 (interstate) to 35 ( po dunk small town) with no warning inbetween to let me know a town was coming up.
I was looking at lose of liscene which would have meant lose of job, house etc.
Fortunatly for a quick $250 the lawyer plead equipment failure and everything was taken care of. I paid another 75 bucks to have my speedometer calibrated(the thing was fine to begin with) and got no points on my liscene,no jail time for reckless driveing and didn't even have to miss a day from work cause the lawyer took care of everything.

Lawyers are ok in my book.

And the problem was still not fixed. 75 - 35 with no warning and a speed trap?? That should have been his approach. So instead of paying a speeding ticket you just paid him and so will the next guy and the next. Sure lawyers have their place and in this society are needed but instead of finding an out they should be helping to fix the issue. Hence the hate.

No, no, this is real life. Things are multiplicative here, not additive like Pathfinder.

Two doubles for quadruple evil, not triple evil, sillies.
