So im starting Second Darkness after the APG comes out. Without EXP cost for magic items I want to just level the characters when needed.
I had a player complain about always starting at 1st level so im starting them at 2nd level and adjusting the first two adventure, so the missing level is no longer there.
Levels by the books
Shadow 2nd-5th
Void 5th-7th
Echo 7th-9th
Night 9th-12th
Darkness 12th-14th
Midnight 14th-?
So what part of each book should they be getting levels? In the later books they tell you where to level.

Shadow in the Sky actually does tell you where they should be getting levels (on page 9).
The other books in the series generally don't, but that is to some extent because they let the PCs choose where to go first. In any case, some thoughts:
Endless Night: level when the PCs reach "noble servitor" status and level after the final encounter.
A Memory of Darkness: level before "Thorn's End" and level after the final encounter.
Descent into Midnight: level before "The Throne of Abraxas" and level after the final encounter.

By the books they gain 3 levels in Endless Night Echo ends at level 9 and Darkness starts at level 12
But thanks for the other ones that was where I was thinking
So you think the final encounter they should be 15th level?

Its really hard to put a fixed point in the Endless Night since the campaign can go really non-linear at that point.
I agree but i want to try a game with NO XP so im going to have to wing it
im using most of the set pieces the only two im not im creating my own
Endless Night and Midnight were the two that I thought were lacking very much
