I really enjoy the Kingmaker AP and know there are tons of Kingmaker PbPs on these board, but to get to the juicy parts, i.e. Books 3 and especially 4 (great job Neil, love Blood for Blood!), it would take several months if not years in the PbP format, if you were lucky enough to have the PbP last that long! I say let's skip directly to the good parts, starting with Book 3. The stories can stand alone without the exploring every single hex mantra of the AP! Besides would love to see some high-level combat in action.
So I'm looking for 4 (maybe 5) player characters, starting at 8th level, 20 point build (no more than 1 below 10 Stat), 1 trait. All core races and classes available, as well as APG. Any other races must be approved by me. Please post a character concept/background, race and class, and description, so I can get a visual image of the character.
This is my second PbP. I lucked out and found really great and consistent players on my Legacy of Fire PbP (2000+ posts and counting), so I hope I get the same here. Minimum posting 1x a day, and more is better, obviously. My one pet peeve: If you cannot post for some reason for an extended period of time, simply let me know.
Hopefully, this interests some of you and I will accept applications till Wednesday, since I am posting this on the weekend. I am in the EST time zone, if that's important to anyone.
Any questions, let me know.

Try this on for size
Half-orc
Paladin 5 /Bard 1/ DD 2
Half-orc raised by human grandparent, mother died during child birth grandfather was a LG cleric till he also died.
PC was originally going to be a cleric, but due to his nature could not be a cleric instead he became a paladin.
Tend to play
LG paladin as Judge/jury/executioner through intimidation
vs LS (lawful stupid) and talks too much (ie diplomacy)

I would like to get in on this. I am a very avid poster, and check boards more than once per day. I really like to write and can be quite descriptive in my posts, if thats ok.
I have not played the Kingmaker game. Im reading the player's guide now. Would I be missing much if I went ahead and started in Part three? Any additional background I should know about when creating a Kingmaker character.
I have thought about having an Azlanti decended Paladin or Knight, taking the Gilman feat from p19 of the Campaign Guide.
Aroden washed up on the shore of Taldor, his bright purple eyes and gilled neck brought him to the attention to the local Nobility. Obsessed with anything to do with ancient Aslanti culture, the Nobility fought over the orphan, and eventually he landed in a Lord's household, where he was named after the last scion of old Azlanti and raised as one of their own.
Raised in an oppulent setting, with the best of teachers, he flurished at the arts of combat, warefair and magic, quickly rising through the ranks of Knighthood. when it came time to establish a Taldorian outpost in the feral Stolen lands, who better to represent the purity of the Taldorian nation, than the young noble of Azlanti blood?
However Aroden has alternative motivations. He has spent most of his life trying to track down his origons, and learn if there are any other of his kind still alive. Rumors abound of an underwater Aslanti ruin deep under the Lake of Mists and Veils. If this were true, it would be an unprecidented discovery.
That, and the odd whispers in his head, that seem to urge him to go....
Bwana Unjunti |
I'd like to level this chracter up to 8th level.
He's a Mwangi summoner with a red ape eidolon.
He was exiled from his tribe when very young for dabbling in arcane arts found in the runs, he developed his summoning powers as a self defense and left the jungle in search of adventure. Since then he has been on many adventures, from battling pirates in the Shackles, to helping to run a Chelish brigade at the Arch of Aroden, a battle with goblins in Isger to his latest run-ins with a cult of Razmir in the River Kingdoms, always working his way north, and earning his mighty level 8 along the way.
Bwana is tall and atheltic, in his late twenties. e long ago shaved off the braids of his tribe and keeps his head shaved. He has dark eyes and strong features.
His companion is a large powerful four armed ape, with flame coloured fur and fire-based attributes.

So far I have two concepts in mind:
Bors Omanera, a dual longsword wielding human ranger of Iomedae called away from the Worldwound due to vague visions of trouble in the wilds.
Garns Sheppard, a human cleric/wizard/mystic theurge seeking the true nature of existence through the arts and will. He has traveled north from the River Kingdoms following rumors of the mystical powers of the lost ruler of these lands.
With the group enlisting thus far, the latter seems a better fit. I can post full concepts later if requested.

So would the party be more like servants of the new kingdom rather than the actually rulers themselves?
Are you still planning on keeping the exploration aspect? Much of the experience in the books comes from those encounters as well as the quests completed by doing them.
I really haven't had that part of the game slow things down at all. In fact exploring hex by hex has kept us at a great pace. If roleplaying during an encounter slows down I just call for an exploration check, have nightfall come and move onto the next hex.

Im leaning towards a Battle Cleric. Cleric with the Battle Priest feat from Pathfinder's UndeFEATable web suppliment for Clerics.
For The DM, here is a sample of what my posts are like:
[ooc]
Aroden rode his mount into the streets of Brevory. His polished armor gleamed in the sun. On top of that was a spotless white tabard with the blue and green royal arms of Taldor on the front.
Behind him were several other members of their house, and then the wagon train behind them hung with blue and green banners. His old friend and sparring partner Sir Norin rode beside him.
"Well....", said Sir Norin, wiping a scentend hankerchief across his nose. "Its a long way from Oppara."
The both of them scanned the woodend two and three story buildings comparing them mentally to the brilliant white marble streets of their home.
"So my Lord Aroden, I wonder if they would have a good resturant here, Im dying for some Spicefish and a good Kortosian ale to wash it down".
Aroden flashed a smile full of white teeth back at his friend. "Id doubt what they have here passes for a resturant. Im sure we can find you a nice mug of hot wine, and a breadbowl of half-rotted meat".
Sir Norin looked upset. "So no chance of a nice private hot spring? Or bath house?"
Aroden laughed "From the looks of these people they dont bathe unless needed.. or even then".
Sir Norin watched the rabble pass as they made their way through the city streets. "Then no chance of a fine bathing lady to wash the cares away of a tired knight?"
Aroden looked at his friend. "Didnt you take a Vow of celibacy?"
Sir Norin held his hand to his chest in mock horror. "What? Break My Vow? How dare you sir? I would treat said maid in a sisterly manner!".
Aroden narrowed his bright purple eyes. "Eye, in fact, wernt you caught by the gardner trying to treat my stepsister in such a manner?"
Sir Norin shook his head vigorously, his gold curls shaking in the sunlight. "All lies and slander, my Brother in Arms. There were no witnesses and no proof of such!"
"Riiiiiigh", said Aroden scanning the crowd. "We better report into the local lord. He has been expecting us."
The two rode on twoards the tallest structure in the city, presumably the palace of government.
"Plus", said Sir Norin under his breath. "Its not my fault. Your stepsister is very persuasive".

So would the party be more like servants of the new kingdom rather than the actually rulers themselves?
Correct. I'm scrapping most of the exploration aspect, but will keep some of the encounters I like and find a way to integrate them into the game. I know a lot of the xp comes from the exploration, but I'm sure I can figure out other ways for the party to recover said xp. It's one of the reasons the party starts at 8th, rather than at 7th level, as recommended by the AP. As the title suggests, it's a modified Kingmaker.

I don't have access to that supplement. Could you give me a quick recap of the feat? Thanks.
Its a free download, I think. Here is the feat.
BATTLE PRIEST
You have spent time training in the arts of war to
become a formidable warrior of the faith; this skill
in battle has however come at the expense of your
magical ability.
Prerequisite: Domains class feature, Cleric level
1st
Benefit: Whenever you receive a new spell level
you can choose to sacrifice your domain slot
(losing the use of it permanently for that level) and
take a Combat feat instead. You must still meet the
requirements for these feats as normal. This feat
does not affect your domain powers.
Normal: Whenever a cleric gains a new spell level
they automatically gain a domain spell slot.
Special: This feat can only be taken at 1st-level.

Thanks,

Yes, the Gilman is a Templar (Holy Knight) using the Battle Cleric. Since there was another person already wanting to play Paladin, I thought it would allow me to play a Knightly class, but offer some needed healing for the group.

I am interested in the ranger swearing to the "Iomedaean Sword Oath" if that is allowed. Basically, by PFS standards, it allows the character to spend a feat on the oath, then another to take weapon specialization in the longsword. The downside to the oath is the character can only fight with longswords. The character may not use any other weapons, doing so causes forfeiture of the feat(s) until an atonement spell is received.

I've had official clarification from the Devs that it isn't actually a feat- more of a character 'option', designed primarily for Paladins.

I'm familiar with the posts, but as they made it a feat for Society play, I have no qualms spending a feat on it, should Lucendar decide so. Also, as a ranger, perhaps he needs to show more dedication than normal, to match the zeal of his paladin companions. Either route is acceptable to me.
Thanks for the catch btw.

Alex, love the way you say you've had clarification. Tsk, tsk! It was somebody else's thread where Sean and James responded! ;-)
Here's the official answer!
1) It's written as if it were a feat. For Pathfinder Society Organized Play, it is legal for selecting as a feat.
2) The idea of paladin oaths giving them certain powers is something we're interested in exploring in a future product, and this is a step in that direction.
3) For non-PFS home campaigns, there's no reason why you couldn't treat it as an oath that doesn't require spending a feat slot, and that's what we recommend: the character swears the oath and gains the benefits of it (the benefit being "you are treated as a ftr4 for the purpose of selecting Weapon Spec (longsword)"), no feat expenditure required.

Levelling up now, hp rolls.
P.S. I'm assuming you'll incorporate the released summoner thing from the blog, i.e. eidolon or SM spell-like ability, but eidolon is at-will?
I'ts a nifty depower for the summoner, though that power was more front loaded and shouldn't hugely affect an 8th level game either way.

How would it break down, class levels wise?
Pretty Simple
Cleric [8]
Domains, Would probably be War, with the possiblity of either Good, Strenght or Leadership.
With the loss of domain spells, but the gaining of Martial feats, it wll play very similar to a Paladin, but instead of having the lay on hands, I get the channel energy ability.
So bacially a Cleric played as a knight.
As for the Gillman aspect,
I will have to burn my 1st level human feat to be a Gilman, even though the only ability I gain from it is underwater breathing (which im thinking wont come up very often) so from a powergaming point of view, not so smart.
However it makes for an awsome story. Especialy since gilmen seem to ber er.. controled.. by the Aboleths. Dunt dunt dun duhhhh.......

Yes, I like the change in the blog. I too was worried about the summoner just overrunning the battlefield with too many creatures. Yes, as long as it's alive, you can summon the eidolon at will.
P.S. You can re-roll 1s and 2s for hps, including the eidolon.

Have you read up on the kingdom of Outsea in the Guide to the River Kingdoms?
Dharman |
Why no... no i have not.. Hmmm.. I seem to have the pdf, but have never read it. Must have been subliminally where I got the idea.
its not an Azlanti base, but it could be the rumors and stories that Aroden was tracking from his home town. Fits really well since the River Kingdoms are just south of us.
Ahh well.... all depends, of course, on me be accepted by the GM so we will wait and see how the selection process works out.

I'd like to throw my hate in if theres room left.
Also I wanted to know what all classes were allowed and such.
But most importantly what type of posting schedule we will do if it will be a stringent from x to x time or at least once a day because i work 2 weeks a month in an oil field for 12+ hrs a day and the other 2 weeks i'm off and free to do as I please xD. So if that won't work i'll drop lol.
Mainly wanted to try the Dragonrider from the Genius Guides off the Paizo site but if you want to just stick to certain books thats cool too ^^d

Ok, Garret is done, just need to add some mundane gear and add a few more things from his character sheet to his profile. I apologize that he looks like another ranger already submitted, it just happens that I made him last week and then leveled him up. If needed I can change profile pics.
This is Xealot BTW.
Lord Aroden |
Dharman here posting under character alias. Here is the roll up of Aroden, the Gillman Battle Cleric. As discussed Domain spell slot is lost per level, replaced with an additional combat feat. I can reroll HP here if im selected.
He is very Leadership focused because of the campaign, and his position in the Nobility. All good for a Kingmaker campaign.
The only other thing, is that all the people who folowed the Azlant god Aroden, have gone over to Imoedae after his death. If the GM wanted to have that spark of the diety revived, Id wouldnt mind having that as part of the backstory.
So thanks for letting me apply, I look forward to checking in Wednesday.

I would like join up for this also. My concept is Nasir ibn Al'Said, a Qadiran Paladin of Sarenrae, who dual wields scimitars and is on a spiritual journey, or "Walkabout", where he ends up in Brevoy after following a sun baked vision he recieved in his homeland.
The only "problem" is that he uses the Oversized Two-Weapon feat from the Complete Adventurer and it's tough nowadays to find a GM that allows 3.5 material.
Here's the feat:
Oversized Two-weapon Fighting
Type: General
Source: Complete Adventurer
You are adept at wielding larger than normal weapons in your offhand.
Prerequisite: Str 13, Two-Weapon Fighting.
Benefit: When wielding a one-handed weapon in your offhand, you take penalties for fighting with two weapons as if you were wielding a light weapon in your offhand (see page 160 of the Player's Handbook).
Special: A fighter may select Over-sized Two-Weapon Fighting as one of his fighter bonus feats.
If the feat is allright then I'll stat him up and submit him, otherwise Nasir will have to continue his journey elswhere.
Thanks,

Hey Lucendar...
I would also like to place a character in for consideration: a Half Elf Druid.
He was raised in an elven community, but seeks to learn more about his human side as well. He has black hair and green eyes and is tall and fit. His skin is pale, no matter how much sun he gets.
He is neutral in alignment, doesn't play much in politics, as he gets somewhat uncomfortable in large cities. He has all the social graces to deal with "high society" if necessary, but it makes him uncomfortable. Good and evil, lawful and chaotic are all simply terms to decribe people ande creatures who are out of sync with the natural balance of the world in his eyes. He doesn't follow any specific deity, but rather draws his power from nature itself.
He has truly become a creature of the wild, and he is remorseless and ruthless in tracking down and destroying defilers and aberrations, regardless of whether they are "monsters" or humanoids. At times he may seem aloof, uncaring, even cold, but it is actually just a personality trait to maintain distance from society and potential ties to it. He has a pretty fiery temper and is often quick to action, which occassionally leaves him alone amid enemies with friends not close at hand...his talent with spell, scimitar, and claws has kept him alive thus far, but only the future will tell his fate...
Thorn Stormcrow is his name, by the way (given to him by his human father before he disappeared while adventuring). He doesn't have an animal companion, but instead has access to the Air domain. Thorn is going to be a bit of a martial build, because I really enjoy having a druid who excels in melee (particularly as he is getting built at a level where he will have wild shape available).
