Big BttH plans? That'd be awesome. *crosses fingers*

No, chillin' for me. Avoiding the shopping frenzy. Christmas lights on Friday. Goofing Sat and Sun. Darn near perfect.

Sweet.

Makes mental note to revise Christmas wish list..."add big BttH"

Two work anecdotes:

On my way in this morning, I walked by a guy in a sizable hole, who was working on something there. Standing outside the hole were (the seemingly obligatory) two guys watching the other guy who was smoking a cigarette and laughing. I just hoped that nothing exploded until after I was clear.

My not-so-vaguely racist cube-mate has a coffee cup which reads "MiGo". Since I'm Caucasian, I really only have to worry about the latter fact.

Racist cubemate? MiGos? Has the klan gone Cthulhu on us? I'm confused.

I knew there was a reason I liked you (and Freehold hates us).

Tonight, dropping the T-bird in the brine. Tomorrow, cooking bird, taters, stuffing & green beans for the day (screw lunch/dinner, I'm eating turkey all day). Probably spend the weekend reading, writing and playing Mass Effect (rebuilding lost saves). Although, I might go to Chicago on Saturday to take part in WolfCon and play some Shadowrun with lead developer Jason Hardy.

Tonight's dinner? Toss-up between Papa Murphy's Pizza or Buffalo Wild Wings. Right now, I'm leaning towards the wings.

We traveled to my parents yesterday and will be staying until Thanksgiving evening. then we are off to my wife's family through Sunday and then back to the cities on Sunday. The Wisconsin baby introduction tour has commenced.

Yeah, I'm a big fan of AB. And, heretic that I am, I also enjoy Iron Chef America...but as a seperate and completely standalone show, rather than an attempt to be anything like the original Japanese show, which has its own merits.

As for tonight's plan...I believe the family is leaning toward Cheesecake Factory, but I'm not sure.

That article doesn't make sense. He does some math based on sales to figure out how much the produce made per word, then makes a leap to how much the freelance writer was paid? Not to mention the fact that the numbers are based solely on a single product...and frankly the name of the product IS important, if it was a particular topic or sourcebook that fans had been waiting for.

I mean, 10 cents per word isn't completely unheard of, but that rate would mean that more than half of the money the company makes on the book went to writing. From my association with Pinnacle Entertainment many years ago, I seem to recall that the suggested retail price for RPG books is double the cost of production, which means that they company would already be overspending on the writing alone. That wouldn't leave much money for other production costs and, oh yeah, profit.

The whole article is just silly.

You're playing Shadowrun with Jason Hardy? 4th ed dev, right? Or am I getting my names confused? I may not like 4th ed, but to play a Shadowrun game with a dev sounds like quite the honor.

My weekend plans include traveling home this afternoon, and dropping the bird in the brine tonight. maybe even making some of the pies tonight. trying out AB's sweet potato pie, which is hidden in a suit of pecan pie camo. crushed pecans and maple syrup how can that be bad right. Yes, LPM the only thing that can make it better is adding a couple pounds of bacon. Tomorrow cook the bird, homemade garlic mashed taters, I get some sort of vegetable in there somehow. but other than the meal no other big plans this weekend.

Depends on what seasonings you put in the brine. Even the basic brine form your nemesis Alton Brown or any variation you want to do it, adds a lot of moisture to the bird. Especially the breast meat, and keeps it juicy in the leftover phase. I'm not saying you will ever fully embrace AB but some of his ideas are good. this is one of us, one of us, one of...., uhm I mean one good idea.

I do, at times, post words off lie that on purpose, just for my own kicks and giggles but since the "joke" seems lost and Sebastian will point out to me every time I goof, I have since stopped.

Got to sleep in today. Yay. :)

Will spend the rest of the day cleaning up the house. It looks like it got hit by a seven year old tornado. And then there's the kitchen where last night's dinner disaster is still lurking waiting to be cleaned up. :(

And then start the food prep. Brine turkey, make pie...oooh, I have to run to the store today. I have the fixings for grape pie, but no pumpkin pie. Probably forgot cause I can't eat the pumpkin pie. Stupid dairy. *Grumble* Anyways, have to go to store, take kidlet to haircut appt, make pie, make cranberry-orange relish cause it always tastes better if it gets to sit for a day....and I think that's it. No schoolwork being done today. I had dreams about the circulatory system last night. It might be best to give it a rest for a couple of days. :)

As Woody said, it depends on what you put into it. Alton's basic brine is veggie stock, brown sugar, allspice, candied ginger and peppercorns.

I know you don't like him, but if you ever feel like, there's two recipes you HAVE to try. First is his Roast Turkey (yes, it's sans stuffing, but it's delicious. The second is his Broiled & Butterflied Chicken. Both are too good.

And, for the record, the reason I adore Mr. Brown is not for his recipes, but because his show imparts what I call "Food Wisdom" instead of just going through the steps of a recipe and showing something that looks way better than you can ever produce, he explains the science and artistry behind the recipe. His show on chocolate chip cookies explains WHY the ratio of flour/sugar/brown sugar result in fluffy/chewy/crunchy cookies. Instead of just regurgitating his favorite recipe.

Blech. Maybe that tastes better than it sounds. Personally I use saltwater (Try for dead sea type ratios of salt and water), A couple of cut up oranges, bay leaves, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and sometimes nutmeg. Medieval cooking at its finest. :)

It's cool, but it's a little to cartoony for fantasy work for my tastes.

WHEW. Man, did they make me work for it. I almost lost a few CJs in the bargain, but thanks to the timely arrival of a naked angel or two, we now have the ULTRA-RARE BTs in stock!!!

They sure are making you work today. :)

I heard they make great stuffing. :P

Ah ah ah!!! Noooooo shooting the stock! If you want to kill a BT clone, you're gonna have to buy one!

My apologies. I thought they were free range clones. :)

Selective Moderation.

Concept or endorsement?

If someone is a azzhat, does it matter which side of the fence they're on? Or if you agree with them?

These boards would be a lot more sane and pleasant if they banned certain topics. Interesting or not, and especially when they devolve.

Oh well, it's off to the eye doc.

Happy Thanksgiving all!

I'm curious about the brined turkey...what does that taste like?

As Woody said, it depends on what you put into it. Alton's basic brine is veggie stock, brown sugar, allspice, candied ginger and peppercorns.

Blech. Maybe that tastes better than it sounds. Personally I use saltwater (Try for dead sea type ratios of salt and water), A couple of cut up oranges, bay leaves, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and sometimes nutmeg. Medieval cooking at its finest. :)

Well, the other thing that I should point out is that the taste being passed back and forth in the brine is more subtle with the amount you're putting into the published recipe. If you want more of the tastes to come through, you'd have to up the ratios for saturation. Also, I tend to go more towards the apple route (cider & such) in my brine.

D'oh! I forgot the key ingredient was salt when I listed it before!

the big part for the brine is one gallon of stock, 1 cup kosher salt, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1 1/2 tablespoons whole peppercorns, 1 teaspoon candied ginger, 1 teaspoon allspice berries.
