So I was looking at the maps from Rivers Run Red and Blood for Blood. And the grids don't match up!

If you match up the grid instead of the terrain features the result isn't all that bad. Sure, you can quite clearly see where the maps are joined, mainly at the top and bottom of Narlmarches, but it's not all that jarring.

Cheliax

How I spent my last Friday night before the school year gets rollin':

The Stolen Lands (laminated posters from the Map Folio)

319 of these suckers (traced from the poster maps, 10 to a page, laminated the page, then carefully cut out each one, sticky tack on back)

Some love for the guys and gals who've provided years of fun already and more to come

Aaaaaand... DONE (with campaign set to start in late September or early October, 2010)

Nice stuff! I hope your players know to appreciate your work :)

(2) A significant hunk of the Stolen Lands are technically in Brevoy, yes? Both ends of the South Rostland Road are in Brevoy, and I rather think all of it is, which means Oleg's is too.

Yes, absolutely. It says in Varnhold that the row including Restov, Nivakta's Crossing and Fort Serenko are all part of Brevoy. Oleg's is in that same row when you put the maps together, and thus in Brevoy.

Also, considering that a road can only be built AND maintained in hexes that are claimed and controlled by a realm, then the entire South Rostland Road MUST be in Brevoy. Per the rules, if a hex with a road becomes uncontrolled, the road goes away. Hence, Oleg's is in Brevoy once more.

Alas, this doesn't make sense as Oleg's can be claimed by the players per Rivers. Grrr... I hate inconsistencies.

For future projects of this type, a map with more context around the edges would be very, very helpful.

Quite. When you look at the different maps, you see these:

Brevoy map detail (I apologize for the defacing, but I'm trying to avoid CUP issues.)

In the Brevoy detail map, the border clearly runs through the Narlmarch forests. This is the 'official' map of Brevoy found in Stolen Lands.

Golarian map detail

In the Golarian detail map, the border runs along the northern edge of the Narlmarch. Admittedly, this is a much less detailed scale, so maybe the forest thins out into Brevoy, but they show the edge of dense forest.

And as stated before, I hate the fact that the North compass roses aren't actually pointing north, but northeast-ish. If you rotate the grid map so that North is straight up, the maps is WAAAY off. I agree with previous statements that ~16 degrees rotation is all that is needed, which means the compass roses aren't pointing north. Considering that 1 guy (Rob Lazzaretti, who is AWESOME at it, btw) does all this cartography, you'd think it would match up.

I won't get started on the Brevoy/Iobaria borders where 1 map shows plains (Stolen Lands gazetteer on Brevoy) and another map shows mountains (Varhold gazetteer on Iobaria)...

Andoran

Has anyone extended the maps south yet with grids added. looking to use mivon area alot.

If you compare the Map of the River Kingdoms on pg 164 of the Inner Sea World Guide with the Kingmaker Folio Map you'll see Mivon is just off the Kingmaker map.

The river E of Mivon is the Little Sellen that would make the lower 2-3 hexes in the Kingmaker map inside the red boundary for Mivon in the River Kingdoms map.

I haven't finished lining up the lower end of the map yet with our 3 hex expansion of top & bottom.

Trying to do it all in scale with the Kingmaker map is huge. I'm still working on some distortion issues with the bottom.

Mivon should be, by our reckoning, 3 hexes below the Narlmarches. The 1st row has 2 forest hexes, the 2nd row has 1 forest hex. Those 3 forest hexes are centered on the 3 forest hexes on the bottom row of the Kingmaker map. Mivon would be in the 3rd hexrow, directly under the westernmost forest hex of the Kingmaker map.

Hope that helps.

I can't show you our map since it several of Paizo's maps pasted together.

I definitely would of been interested as I know my pcs would make a go of trying to 'unite' the River Kingdoms into one vast one.

I used GIMP to combine all of the maps, I changed the compasses to point North towards the top of the map, and I marked the political boundary of Brevoy and Pitax. I also created three separate maps with the four combined as a base. The first is for the players can be unveiled piece by piece. The second is for me so I can take notes and make it up and the third is in case I screw up and need to fix something. I will be working on extending the map south and adding in more special locations.

I am pretty sure I can't post these maps, as that would probably be against the community use agreement. I can say that it isn't hard to do if you use image extractors and photoshop programs. It was only about an hours work to combine them together.

Actually our map is a combination of all the maps from;
the Kingmaker Folio PDF,
The Inner Sea World Guide (Brevoy, Numeria, Galt, River Kingdoms),
the Brevoy & Iobaria maps from Kingmaker,
and the Pathfinder Chronicles Guide to the River Kingdoms.

They are all different scales and slightly different artwork, so once you get them to the same scale (the Kingmaker scale) they can get pretty BIG.

I only removed the compasses since I think they are off about 15 degrees. Most players want N to be toward the top of the map (since that is the only correct way to draw a map), but its not, so I just removed the compasses so it wouldn't keep blinking WRONG at us;)

I'm using Paint.net & paintbrush to do all of our maps.

I know what you mean and I'm afraid of my players because of this...

(right at the start of Book 3 and they are thinking about armies...)
