Iobaria / The Pit of Gormuz

Does anyone know, or is there any imminent likelihood of finding out, how far, and in which direction, the Pit of Gormuz is from Iobaria?

It's supposed to be in the far eastern realms of Casmaron, and Iobaria is the furthest northwestern realm of Casmaron proper. If you extrapolate from the existing maps of Avistan I think it's something like 2000 miles across, so maybe Casmaron is around 3000 miles across?

The Pit of Gormuz is in central Casmaron, near Ninshabur, if I recall correctly. There was actually a simple continent map someone here on the boards did that even James Jacobs commented about that gave a decent overview of what the northern hemisphere of Golarion looked like. Non-canonical, but still pretty cool.

If I can find it (so far, no luck) I'll post it here.

Yeah, the Pit of Gormuz is THOUSANDS of miles away from Iobaria. I suspect that Varisia might be closer to Iobaria than the Pit of Gormuz.

Thanks, everyone! Especially JJ.

That would be The Awesome.

I was just wildly thinking, mind racing, heart thumping, brain sweating about the possibility of having some kind of Iobarian Rovagug cult become a threat to the PCs kingdom after the end of the AP.

There's no reason I can't have that even though the Pit of Gormuz is gazillions of miles away, but if it had been closer my mind would have raced some more.

:D

The Exchange

Vagrant-poet's cartographer PFS PC (I think he's a Qadiran), did up a nice map. That's probably the one people are thinking about. It might still be in his profile somewhere.

Here's Vagrant Poet's mapmaker! I'm not sure if the link is still good.

edit: Yep, still good. And it looks like your PCs will have a trip across the Castrovin sea in order to make it to the Pit stop.

Whoo! Cool!

My brain is telling me that the map is a lot like the Forgotten Realms. The Castrovin Sea as the Sea of Fallen Stars, The Inner Sea as the Shining Sea - Cheliax as Calimshan, the Mwangi Expanse as Chult, Azlant as the Moonshae Isles and the islands of the northmen, Arcadia as the new world/maztica... it kind of gets a bit more desperate after that. :D

Anyway, I'm not likely to go with the Rovagug/Pit of Gormuz idea now, but it's nice to see the map anyway, whether it's completely correct or not.

This article about the so-called Door to Hell in Turkmenistan had me thinking about the Pit of Gorumuz.
