Retrofitting new rules

Are there any guidelines for or against retrofiting existing characters with abilities/skills/etc from newly released books. If the player of an existing society PC, buys a new book with a feat/trait/spell that he really wants, can he drop an existing ability to add the new one?

The only thing I remember Josh ever saying about this was letting someone change their God of choice for their dwarf to one of the ones from the Dwarves of Golarion book after it came out. I have never seen him say anything else about changing your character after you have assigned it something, other than to replace something that was made illegal from originally being allowed when you picked it.

There are rules in the Guide for switching deities that can be applied when new products come out.

I don't have any plans for retrofitting existing characters, though.

If we find our character's build no longer palatable due to the changes in the class mechanics expected to be released in the advanced players guide (For the Alchemist, Summoner, etc vs. the play test. ) will we be given the opportunity to make changes to our characters or should we rebuild them and start again at level 1?

You will be forced to re-create any characters of the above classes using the official class rules once the Pathfinder RPG Advanced Player’s Guide is released.

So it sounds to me like, if you are playing a Summoner (for example) after the APG is added to the Additional Resources section your options for Organized Play with respect to that character are:

1 - Rebuild it at currently level in accordance to the rules outlined in the APG. (IE: Like it)

or

2 - Start a new character at level 1 of whatever class you want to play now. (IE: or lump it)

Anyone who is playing a playtest class will be required to rebuild that class once the final is released in the APG in August. So, if you're playing a witch and you're up to 6th level, you need to rebuild your witch using the final rules back to level 6. This has no effect on your gear or money earned--it only changes the rules-bits.

General character re-skinning won't be allowed. If you're playing a 10th level rogue in Society play and want to re-skin the new rogue stuff from the APG, you can't. Once you make another character, though, feel free to use anything that's legal for play from the APG (and keep in mind that it won't all be legal for play).
