Yeah but I couldn't in good conscience keep it up.

For me it's sharks and to a lesser degree Croc's and such. Reason being is my parents took me to go see Jaws at the theater when I was like 5-6. It was a theater that showed old big hits of years past for a buck. Anyways that movie freaked me out, I was afraid to leave the theater cause I was sure Jaws was outside waiting on me.

Of course we lived in Saint Louis MO, which makes that highly unlikely, which my dad was so kind to point out. Which I from what my parent seem to enjoy reminding me about. That I replied in child like logic he could be in a giant fish tank. Long story short I did leave the theater and Jaws did not eat me, but I did have nightmares about it for months and to this day. I am scared to death of sharks, I can't even watch movies like Open Water.

Yes I read about sharks and watch shark week etc. I find them fascinating but scary as hell.

I adblock the avatars that actually do get to me. You might be able to get me once or twice before I block a new one, though.

A bat that was flying around my family room at 10pm tonight. We were watching TV and suddenly got buzzed by something furry.

"holy &!*#$% what was that....?!!"

My farmhouse.

Which is really silly, since it is an old house that we have been the sole owners of. Nothing remotely violent or horror movie-rific has ever happened there. Once, we renovated the bathroom, and that was pretty scary... Actually, in the attic, there is this huge nest thing that the birds made around a pillar. It has straw sticking out all over and looks very much like a cocoon or something from the X-Files.

The reason the house makes me nervous is that I did some less than wholesome activities there, and my over-active imagination conspires with faith to concoct all kinds of terrible hellish creatures; portals and such.

So I decided that I would bring the cat in, so I would have something to blame the weird noises at night on. The cat went to the deepest, darkest recesses of the basement and started making creepy cat noises. So much for that idea, now I just sleep with the radio on.

What is your feeling on Lawyers?

I'm against killing sharks. :)

For me there are a few things: parasites (particularly various parasitic worms that burrow through your skin or coil up in your gastrointestinal tract, as well as the parasitic wasps that attack various types of insects); diseases like Ebola, Hanta, Plague and Tuberculosis; giant asteroids and comets; and anything that damages or destroys eyes - ripped open torso on a nature documentary or something I'll be cool and composed; attacking or destroying eyeballs has me jumping out of my skin.

thats a nice way to do it.

Honestly I felt it was not very funny if I could not actually see your face. Then I thought about a young lady I know who is so unnaturally panicked by spiders that she had to drive out of her way once to avoid a silly road sign that included a tarantula crawling upon a ladies leg. So I felt it best to stop post haste for while I feel things have gotten to thin skinned a bit lately, I did not wish to add to any of it. I'm sorry.

I would make fun of you, however I have met a couple of guys who have some level of sense and yet nothing seems to phase them. Makes me quite envious really. For while I have no over ridding terror to anything. I have a little to a lot of things. Don't car for heights, get motion sickness. Can't stand the thought of roller coasters because of those. I can feel light claustrophobia and agorophobia, which makes me feel real pathetic honestly. Yet none of them are to the level that I am paralized. I don't jump at things or anything but can get quite unerved if I am not expecting it, like fun house things, or ferris wheels.

Daredevil is missing one sense, not all senses.

In honesty?

Spiders if sufficiently realistic. I can handle giant fakey stuffed/puppet spiders and CGI stuff in movies like the big one in Harry Potter. But Arachniphobia is STILL, after ~15 years, the scariest movie I have EVER seen.

People not having anatomy in the proper place. Especially if what's left is just a blank slate or an empty hole. Example here (warning: minor spoiler for Final Fantasy 8 on top of the freakout factor)

Those are really my only persistent fears. Other things can be brought on by certain stimuli. For example, for the first week or so after reading House of Leaves I had a fear of the dark, which I haven't had since I was 10 or so, and which faded away shortly.

Planes. I have a severe fear of flying. I know where it originated too. I graduated in 2001 and attended the university of New York. Thats right you heard me, I also have a picture of myself on top of the world Trade center, that picture was taken on september 9th 2001. I was in the city and about a mile away when it happened. To this day I have severe irrational fear of planes and have to dope myself up with meds to get on, and even then I'm sweating with fear the entire way. Every little bump or bit of turbulence scares the hell out of me. And despite me working in the psychological field I can't for the life of me kick the fear, even though it doesn't stop me from traveling.

Yeah, me, too. Physical threats are meaningless. But the thought of being forced underground, unable to earn a living and unable to "come out" -- or maybe have to flee again, the way my grandfather had to flee Germany -- that really bothers me.

Heights.
I get really bad vertigo.

Not exactly scary, but hearing the music and automated voice-overs from the ice-cream truck going through the neighborhood creeps me out.

Another one for heights. Of course I work in the roofing industry, so I'm forced to cowboy up quite often.

Amusingly, my roommate has the opposite effect.

And since - on cue - they come by every week during our gaming session, it's about 99% guaranteed that sometime during the game we're going to hear "AFK (away from keyboard), need to go kill that damn ice cream truck."

Maybe not quite the opposite effect. After all, fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to chasing an ice cream truck down the street with a baseball bat.

Fixed that for you. Ice-cream Trucks, agents for the Sith since 1991.

no.. seriously... zombies. I am petrified of them. Yes, I know they aren't real... but I just can't help but be afraid of a zombie invasion.

Ninja zombies that throw zombie piranha shuriken, hmmm.

Poodles. And large letters (say, 3' tall and up).

Murky water and water near dock pillars *shudder*. Don't ask me why, it just freaks me the f#~& out. The ocean, OTOH, doesn't have the same effect (unless I'm near a pier).
