Since I was about 12 years old, music has been an important part of my life. Songs have a way of sparking very strong emotions in me. I was curious how many others felt the same way.

What songs make you cry?

Making Love out of Nothing At All- Air Supply

(Don't you judge me!)

Scarab Sages

Did something similar before. I allready put my entry there (A boy and his frog), and the entry that also makde me cry (Baby of Mine from Dumbo).

What songs make you cry?

Tears in Heaven - Eric Clapton (came out right when a classmate died of cancer)

Angel's Son - Strait Up or Sevendust (came out soon after my newborn cousin died of kidney failure)

I apologize. I missed it the first time around.

Cat's in the Cradle - Harry Chapin

Makes me cry every time.

Never had a song cause me to bawl, but my eyes used to mist up in a way most Pavlovian whenever I heard Bookends by Simon and Garfunkel.

I think what got me, other than the delicate rendition, was what the lyrics meant to me. The loss of people close to me, friends, lovers, family... is the saddest thing I know. Sadder still, I've lost the ability to be touched by music as deeply as I once was.

Time it was, and what a time it was, it was
A time of innocence, a time of confidences
Long ago, it must be, I have a photograph
Preserve your memories, they're all that's left you

I'll Be Missing You - Puff Daddy

Not so much for the song itself, but when my grandfather died my grandmother really latched onto the song and played it nonstop for a while. The song makes me think of my grandfather which isn't a bad thing, but it still always makes me cry even years later!

S'all good. We can't all catch everything that goes around.

...which is also my explanation for why I never catch colds or flus when they go around. Not sure it works that way, but eh.

Pearl Jam - Last Kiss - came out right when my sister died
The Beatles- Let It Be - played at my brothers funeral
Beck- Lost Cause

Angel - Sarah Mclaughlin...

I keep imagining this song comming up at someones' funeral and the tears start flowing... Gets me everytime.

Ultradan

I second Angel (Sarah McLaughlin) and Makin' Love out of Nothing at All (Air Supply). I also get misty-eyed for:

Have you ever needed someone so bad (Def Leppard)
I See You in Everyone (Survivor)
Ever Dream (Nightwish)

I want to cry everytime I hear Brothers in Arms, by Dire Straits. Powerful lyrics, heartwrenching yet subtle lead guitar, and perfectly understated vocals. A masterpiece...

Dark Archive

I Want to Know What Love Is, by Foreigner.

Doesn't make me cry, but does get me all verklempt.

Liberty's Edge

The Rose by Bette Midler

"Tuesday's Gone" by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

"Keep your Hands to Yourself" by the Georgia Satellites.

Damn.

Liberty's Edge

Pearl Jam - "The End" - I don't know if it's just because of that one episode of Castle, but this one always gets me.

Stevie Ray Vaughan - "Life By the Drop" - One of my biggest regrets is not keeping in touch with the friends I had in high school. This song always reminds me of the good times we had.

Radiohead - "Reckoner" - When I first heard this song, I was going through some really tough times, mentally, and I just f&%@ing broke. Every time I listen to it, I get a little bit of that feeling.

Brand New - "Millstone (alternative mix)" - This song will forever remind me of all the mistakes I've made throughout my life.

The Wailin' Jennys - "The Parting Glass" (traditional) - What can you say? I'm a sucker for sad Irish music.

Richard Shindell - "Wisteria" - I think this song was designed to make the audience weep.

Tim Minchin - "Drowned" - The only 'serious' song I've heard Tim Minchin perform. Every time I hear "Drowned," ... Indescribable.

There are a few others that I wasn't able to link to:

Yndi Halda - "We Flood Empty Lakes"
Ellis Paul - "Changing Your Name"
Mark Erelli - "Ghost"
Richard Shindell - "The Grocer's Broom"
Anais Mitchell - "Your Fonder Heart"
Peter Mulvey - "Old Fashioned Hat" (cover)

Liberty's Edge

I don't cry. I'm tough.

Liberty's Edge

There's a country song my wife loves called Don't Take the Girl.

I don't know who the artist is, but it is a horribly depressing song that makes me tear up when I hear it.

Don't know if I've heard that version, but the song makes me cry , especially since having two sons.... That's the way I want to look back on my life.

Also, Brothers in arms...

That was an obstetrician. I approximated crying for a minute or two, so they'd stop spanking me.

Back when I still felt pain.

That "Jeremy" song'll make you cry if you have kids, and, unlike me, are actually able to cry.

Camper Van Beethoven - 'All Her Favorite Fruit'

No, seriously.

Grinderman - "Man in the Moon"

Damn this is depressing. Doesn't help much that the rest of their work is stuff like Honey Bee and When Me Love Comes Down, which is at the very least high-tempo and about sex. Then, along comes a song about loss and your soul just gets crushed by the change in tone.

Liberty's Edge

zinskaro

if I were prone to crying, this would do it.

Because You Loved Me - Celine Dion
Please Forgive Me - Bryan Adams

That Annie Lennox song from LotR, Into the West.

"Into the West," by Howard Shore and Annie Lennox.

Liberty's Edge

Perhaps it just shows my dorkiness, but I really want that song performed at my funeral.

An event hopefully a long time off.

Miserere, mei Deus by Gregorio Allegri. I'm totally Jewish, but sacred music of any religion can (and should) be judged by the quality of its musical content, with its spiritual conontations not whitstanding. The ornamental high C in the soprano solo during the antiphonal section is . . . well, its just great.

Grab a tissue.

"Against All Odds" by Phil Collins, came out just as my grandfather died, and still brings back the feeling of loss.

Not a song per se, but Mozart's Requiem Mass gets me all emotional, it is very stirring.

Danny Boy always gets me.

I'm too macho to cry.

Spoiler:
Except during the Futurama episode Jurassic Bark. You know, the one with the dog from the past. But That doesn't count. Soulless robots cry when they see that.

If this doesn't speak to you, you might be dead.

If you've ever buried friends under flags this has to speak to you.

Iron Maiden - Passchendaele

Liberty's Edge

Cry? No, but some songs stir me up for sure...

FAUN - EGIL SAGA
(maybe use this in game for some legendary band of bards?)

ROYAL SCOTS DRAGOON GUARDS - THE GAEL
(I plan to use this as a "rallying" moment to the Andoran army against ______)

and lastly from the movie
KING ARTHUR - WE WILL GO HOME
(I plan on using this in an Andoran tavern where the bartender's daughter is asked to sing after a rather bloody encounter the heroes and citizens endure prior)

ENJOY!! :)

Almost everything from the OST "The Fountain", sniff.

Iron Maiden - The Longest Day

Primo Victoria

Grand Lodge

This tune usually does the trick. Bonus points to whoever posted it for putting it to clips from an equally gut-wrenchingly sad movie.

Liberty's Edge

Something about this version of this song...

Against Me! - "Wagon Wheel"

I've always loved sad songs.
Tnematset Wen Nokturnal Mortum
La Dryade
Hurt
Il Etait Une Forêt (not for all ears, but those whom it is for can do nothing but love it.)
The Scent Of Your Dying Rose
The Price Of Freedom (perhaps it may not sound so sad to someone who doesn't know what it is background for, but...)
A Flower Blooming In The Slums
Song Of Amroth And Nimrodel

And more...

What songs make you cry?

"yuuki wo uketsugu kodomotachi e" translates to "To the Children Who Inherit Courage". Makes me cry only if I watch the video that goes with it and listen to the music.

Dark Archive

One Headlight by the Wallflowers; the song came out when one of my goodfriends died it reminds me of him everytime I hear it he died right out of college.

I don't cry, but I will mist up when listening to these songs:

Willow by Emilie Autumn: 'cause it's so darn personal for me
Eet by Regina Spektor
Beauty Through Pain by Superchick
