Knowledge nature

Robbo looks down at one of the centipede corpses ponderously, "Hmmm... I've heard of little buggers like these, but usually they live in warmer climates. I wonder if there's a hot spring or something nearby? We should see if we can track down the source!"

Male Human Cleric3

Knowledge Nature: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Survival: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23

Speaking of 'tracking down the source' um...hey rangerette, do those look like tracks to you?

Ahz tries to look innocent and as if he doenst know all at the same time...

You see the sources before you get to the end of the tracks a wisp of steam comes out of a crevace with the vapor quickly freezing right out of the air.

The crevace is about 10 feet across and 20 feet wide.....the tracks come from this area.

closer look

Spoiler:

Icy crevace goes down hundreds of feet

"While heat would be nice," Caydee says, still with an arrow notched, "I'd rather not meet any more oversized bugs."

M orc Paladin / 1

"Can we not jus drop you in an let yah tells us whats down there?"

"Yah gots tha ring tah make yah fall slow!"

moves towards Caydee like he is going to do it...

Male Human Cleric3

How are my chances at marking this space to return to it?

I get the feeling we keep running into new quests without finishing many. I don't mind in general, but we have at least one thats under a time frame...with no way to pull KD back up, I don't know that I trust tossing her down there. Then again...

Ahz utters a small gasp...

I would like to investigate it further...we have time.

Caydee looks curiously at Ahz for a moment. "I was going to agree with you until you completely switched arguments."

Male Human Cleric3

Ahz thinks for a minute.

It's kind of hard to explain. Sort of a quest. thing. Part of what draws me to magic and the cosmos. Fire in ice. I've been searching for it. Well. For a long time...I don't know if this is connected or some kind of hot spring or something to do with the metal men or some volcano. I don't know. But I search.

Ahz gazes down into the pit and tries to guesstimate how deep it is.

How much rope do we have between us? I have 50' of my own, plus whatever we got from Rector..which was another 100? And the bit of masterwork I strung back together on the way, which is another 50'. So thats 100' of silk rope and 100' of hemp rope so far. What does everyone else have?

"I have hemp. Fifty feet." Caydee still looks skeptical. "Your reasoning sounds just crazy enough that I'd love to join- but don't we have enough quests, and enough people relying on us?" She looks searchingly at Ahz again. "Oh, screw it. You don't have to be so dramatic. I'll lead the way."

M orc Paladin / 1

"I have 100 foot of rope!"

Unpacks the rope

Male Human Cleric3

Ahz smiles at KD. Thanks, it means a lot.

350 feet so far...anyone else? Vardara, Krill, Robbo?

Nope, don't have any here.

Caydee starts tying together they ropes they have in secure knots.

Male Human Cleric3

Ahz tries to guess the depth of the chasm - if it descends into darkness I'll drop a lit piece of something and see if I can get a better guess that way. Also, I'll see if I can move around and find a place with either an easier descent or something with a ledge to make partial trips or less distance down. Or something.

The lit piece of stone bounces down to the floor of the crevace, deep below 100 feet there is a stone floor and what appears to be stalgmite mounds around the floor.

Descending into the crevace

Spoiler:

YOU find piles of offal and white circles that appear to be some type of egg.....

Male Human Cleric3

Not yet opened eggs? How big?

After learning the depth, Caydee returns all but two of the ropes. She looks around for something to tie the end of the rope to. "All go first," she announces.

In the bottom of the crevace the natural stone is uneven the stalagtites 4 you saw are now obviously piles of carrion with one egg on top of each pile...

Knowledge nature
DC 10

These are large insect eggs, you guess whiptail centipede eggs

In one corner a hot spring bubbles up into a large pool that both provides fresh water and heats the entire cavern.

DC 25
Spoiler:

You note a low ledge and a very narrow passage underneath it.

Male Halfling Bard 2

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Robbo is quite distracted by the popping bubbles and doesn't pay much attention to anything else.

Male Human Cleric3

knowledge: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

Well.....its kind of fire in ice.....

Knowledge 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
perception 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12

Caydee gives Ahz a 'now what?' look, then goes over to warm her hands over the hot spring.

Male Human Cleric3

I'm going to take 20 on searching, especially the hot spring portion (so 26 perception after 20 minutes).

M orc Paladin / 1

Fubar starts taking off his supplies and peeling off his armor as he dips his body slowly into the hot spring.....

"Ahhhhhhh..."

Perception 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11

Azh

Spoiler:

Near the springs you find a small cube just under an inch across and appears to be made of ivory, bone, or some other white hard mineral. Each of the cube's faces are polished smooth, and etched with runes.

Karrg paces around the area above once in awhile making a noise or playing in the snow.

After waiting a few moments to make sure Fubar isn't eaten by a polar worm hiding in the water or something, Cay follows his example.

Enjoy life's little luxuries while you still can, Krill says sagely.

Take 10 on perception = 17

Can't see any exits from here. Might be a good place to rest.

Male Human Cleric3

I'll take the small cube and examine the runes, trying to decipher their meaning.

Hey, can anyone make anything of this? Vardara you're into the arcane side of things a bit aren't you? Any ideas?

Spending so much time in the area you soon discover a low ledge against the far wall that seems to have a crack in the back that someone could possibly squeeze into, you can not tell how far back it might go.....

Male Halfling Bard 2

"This looks like a job for me!" says Robbo, peering down the crack in the wall. "I can head through there and see what I can see and then come back and report. Sound good?"

Hoppin soon comes face to face with a skelton, however after a few moments you realize it is the remains of a human from some time ago....

Hoppin

Spoiler:

You note the sketleton appears old, with the clothing and leather all gone away however a long sword, breatplate and shield catch your eye as still being useful.

Male Halfling Bard 2

I'll grab all of the loots

Gathering up the dead man's belongings, Robbo crawls back out of the crack and shows off his spoils, "Hey guys, check out what I found! Some dead guy in there gave them to me!"

Hoppin comes out with a long sword, breatplate and shield!
