Have you ever come across a TERRIBLE song (or a decent song by a s#ty band) that you know sucks, but you can't stop listening to? It happens to me daily.
Here are a few of mine:
Patrick Curtin |
Well, anything by Abba, pretty much: A combo of 70's childhood nostalgia and the fact I still love the female singers' voices.
This song >here< gets into my brain like an overactive Kyuss worm. I twitch and sing along mindlessly ..

Memories of high school... flooding... back... into brain...

Crappy earworms, eh?
Just about anything by ABBA (this stuff was new when I grew up, of course) and, in the same vein, a lot of Boney M (check out "Rasputin" and "Ma Baker").
Phil Collins' "In The Air Tonight"
Whigfield's "When I Think Of You" (WARNING: this one's really awful)
Anything by Daze, but especially "Tamagotchi" and extra-especially "Superhero". This last one is weapons-grade brain kryptonite. :§
Lots of 1980s hair metal, but particularly Britny Fox' "Girlschool" and Quiet Riot's "Metal Health". And Mötley Crüe's entire output.
Finally, it bears mentioning that most 1980s pop was catchy, whether it was good (Madness, Tears For Fears, Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode or some Duran Duran) or bad (Thompson Twins, A Flock Of Seagulls or Kylie Minogue (even though she went on to make cool music later)).
Oh, and I'm not linking to that f##%ing Piña Colada song. Google it yourselves.

Nonpoint - "In the Air Tonight"
Mötley Crüe - "Girls Girls Girls"
And now for a song by an absolutely S$#& band that I can never get out of my head:
Patrick Curtin |
Cotton Eye Joe - Rednex
Man, why do I smell Kiwi boot polish and Simple Green when I hear this tune? Oh yeah, AIT ...
Living in the Sunlight, Loving in the Moonlight - Tiny Tim
I like >this< version better :)

And no one has mentioned Dio, why?
Last in Line
Like a Rainbow in the Dark
Holy Diverneed I go on?
This one's intentionally cheesy, and I'm a big fan of the band, but...
Killswitch Engage's "Holy Diver" cover. 'Nuff said.

Ooooooh.... How about DN's favourites Cutting Crew? Or the insufferable Men Without Hats?
I guess we could make an argument for Men At Work, but I hesitate to call them sucky. Good luck shaking off that tune, though.

And to complete the collection, I was in turn reminded of this NSFW clip. From Berserk, no less.

I could stand for more videos like this being made these days, really....

Kenny Loggins - "I'm Alright"
If you grew up in the 80's you can't hear that song and not dance like a gopher. ;)

the final countdown by europe.
i love everything by abba. and kiss. i saw them in concert in the late 1970s. (kiss, not abba)
i also saw them in 2002.
My best friend and I went to see KISS when they had their original line-up, put-the-makeup-back-on reunion tour back in '96.
I think they broke the record for decibel-level.

Anything by Steel Panther. The CD came with a Parental Advisory label, as well as a statement from the band saying it was raunchy. Like a bad train wreck, you can't look away.

Wow! Donnald got to see 'em the first time around. Wouldve loved to been there. Saw them in 90 on their Hot In The Shade tour (HITS, get it?) with Winger and Vixen. Eric Carr on drums and Bruce on guitar. Eric was truly awesome! I saw them again on that 96 reunion tour. It was about the 4th show of the tour and I think Peter was still sincere when he said 'thank you' at the end of Beth...I know he got more resentful as the tour went on. Saw a bootleg from Maryland or Georgia from that tour and he sounded awful.
