Random thought....

Thinking of making him Tian-Min, and RPing him like Mako in Conan The Barbarian. :)

There is much fun to be had in this concept. :D

That sounds cool.

I was going to do him like that white-haired old guy from the first 30 minutes of Dragon Slayer. Always chewing his gums and wandering off in random directions.

I played him just like he was written and it was great. Perhaps a little crazier.

That's... genius.

Liberty's Edge

These are good suggestions.

Personally I've been trying to channel Walter on Fringe for this NPC when the players finally meet him.

Heh Bokken was an interesting character.

I played him as a bumbling old man, someone who has spent a little -too- much time around herbs ;P

He had a high pitched stuttering voice.

During conversation, he would take random words, and go on about them, example: Our Cavalier mentioned socks, and then bokken spent a minute mumbling about how socks would be good in a potion of see invisibilty, as it would help "open the senses".

The players thought he was quite interesting i hope :)

I'm going to play him a lot like Herman Toothrot from the Monkey Island games. Complete with lack of pants, and constant asides: "Heh, these guys are crazy!" etc...

I was actually thinking of playing of the alchemist side of him, and then running him like the "merlin" character from Shrek the 3rd. Complete with a lack of pants and a robe (in this case a leather apron) that doesn't quite reach down to his knees. ;)

Mostly just obviously crazy, from both a tendency to sample his own creations for testing and consuming purposes, and just simply being out of touch with society and proper etiquette/behaviour. Bust still mostly harmless.

My Bokken wears nothing but most of a burlap sack and lives in a spider-hole in the middle of the plains. He conducts business down there; the dirt walls are jam-packed with unlabeled potions and the majority of the very limited space is taken up with alchemical equipment. His mind wanders constantly and he talks to a multitude of beings that the PCs can't see or hear. His obsession with potions stems from his limited memories of his alchemist parents and the need to be prepared when he finally confronts his brother... someday!

When addressing the party, he's direct to a fault and seemingly unaware of the concepts of personal space or decorum (chewing his toenails while spider climbing, unasked, about the shoulders of the resident big guy).

I too based my Bokken off Mako, but instead of his Conan character my Bokken was Iroh from Avatar: The Last Airbender. I even found a different image for him that was more Iroh-like.

My Bokken is a gnome alchemist/tinkerer with the Gunsmithing feat and a mechanical hand he built himself (his brother chopped off the whole hand, not just the pinky). He acts like a stereotypical 60s drug-addled hippie. "Far out, man..."

The Exchange

My Bokken has a sheep, she was his only friend in the lonely wilderness. He takes her to walk through the city with a collar and a pet chain.
He worries for her safety a lot, he is always watching.
Bokken speaks to people with no eye contact, worries for mundane or inexistent problems, he sees green fairies everywhere, they say things to him.

I have big plans for that sheep.

Ah, Bokken is the ruler of the kingdom. Yeah, Bokken rules :D

My bokken was heavily influenced by an 11 hour session with vodka redbulls.
Bokken was a reasonible if shifty man with a head for bargaining and penchant for being a touchy person.
Bokin however was a shrill man who hated being interupted and was easily distracted who couldnt figure out who kept reorganizing his laboratory.
(P.s. first post. First time Gm. Been trolling these forums for months. I am currently 1/2 way through RRR)

So my Bokken went over incredibly well. He ended up being sort of pervy and "Shrek Merlin"esque. My players seem to love and hate him.

I think its a winner for us

Silver Crusade

My group is currently engaged in their third playthrough of KM. In the first playthrough, Bokken was fairly by the book--hermetic, a little redneck. Our third playthrough had Bokke (for he was now a she) as a hyper-active gnome who had built trapdoors all over her hut to pop in/out at odd times(turns out fangberries are quite the stimulant). This time I'm thinking of doing an older, mellow Willie Nelson-esque character.

Has anyone else noticed that Bokken has enough adept levels to have a familiar? Not that it affects play much, but I was just curious if anyone did anything with this.

I redid him as a Druid and gave him a big ol' monitor lizard as companion. It proceeded to menace the Magus every time the party came by.

I did, actually Menelaus. Mine has "Cat" and "Bush". Due to some complications with both faeries and alchemical tests, his cat is now a rose bush and his rose bush is now a cat. :p
